a magnet in the fill plug above the gears? It makes sense to have one at the bottom of the gearbox, where the heavy particles collect.

I used the same oil you did and found it improved the changes quite nicely. The second time I changed, I also added a dose of Molyslip and this further improved the gearchange, especially 1st to second. Filling with 3 litres is INCORRECT. GM used to fill these 'boxes with 3litre up to about 2006, but them issued a WIS referring to difficult changes 1st to 2nd when cold and changed the fill quantity to 2.4litre and also advised adjusting the cables. The Haynes manual still says 3litre as it hasn't been updated. I've had my car for 95k miles now and it has had a 'box oil change every 40k miles starting from 42k. For general use every 65 to 70k miles should be okay, but mine's a tuned Aero and oil is cheap compared to a box rebuild. Also you have to drain and refill to check the level anyway.

Yea thats correct, but mines is a Vectra 2004 and from factory are there 3,2litres so much i know and i think the 3 litres is the perfect middle between 2,4 and 3,2l. :) Best Regards

@@KrystianDEPL WIS is the Saab Workshop Instruction System, however the advice is applicable to ALL F40 'boxes in all models. Bear in mind too that about 200ml remains in the 'box when drained, so it should be refilled with 2.2litre to give a 2.4litre fill. Putting 3litre in will result in a 3.2litre fill which is too much. Gear cables should also be re-adjusted. Bear in mind that overfilling the fluid and poor cable adjustment are contributory factors to problematic changing 1st to 2nd and if left unchecked this will eventually lead to cracked and chipped 2nd gear and synchros causing popping out of gear and requiring a 'box rebuild. As there are other issues affecting gearchange which are easy and cheap to fix, you've given me an idea for a mini series! 😀

I e recently bought an 93 aero 6 speed and it appears to be leaking oil around the bell housing, would seals cause this effect? Seems to be wet the whole way round, and it only drips whilst engine running, thanks

There is a level check plug - not to far from the drain plug up the driver side of the housing. Also, Saab changed the fill amount to 2.2L (total volume in the casing is 2.4L). Don't know that the original fill level to 3 liters did any harm, but they eventually acknowledged that was over-filling. You can check the WIS online service manual to see this fact.

paco P OPEL tak zaleca i tyle co ja wiem ta śruba sie samo uszczelnia ta która była zamontowana w Fabryki, przez przy starej tez nie ma O-Ring

Orginalna nie ma podkładki ( uszczelki ) aluminiowej bądź miedzianej. Ja nie mogłem dokręcić tak aby nie kapało. Bałem się, że przeciągnę szczególnie, że to imbus i już zaczął się ślizgać. Osobiście dokupiłem podkładkę aluminiową w sklepie za rogiem bo byłem w trakcie wymiany. Ja zalałem Fuchs 75W90 wg strony Fuchs ale potem doczytałem, że nie spełnia standardów GM. Takie standardy spełnia Fuchs 75W80. Różnicy między nimi nie widzę ( czuję ). U mnie haczy 2 i 3 bieg na zimnym a i na ciepłym nie jest kolorowo. Problemem też jest ilość oleju. Do mojego auta teoretycznie zalecane jest tylko 1.9 litra :O gdzie do skrzyń F40 z reguły wlewa się 2.4 litra. Podobno nawet 100ml mniej lub więcej robi różnicę. Ja kopię temat już od zimy i nadal nie mogę rozwiązać problemu. Oczywiście regulacja linek itd itd... nic nie pomaga :| Mechanicy chcą rozkręcać skrzynie i wymieniać synchro ale jakoś nie wierzę, że padły na praktycznie wszystkich biegach przy przebiegu 55 tys km :|

w moim saabie 9-3 producent podaje pojemność skrzyni 2,4, przy wymianie 2,2. Czytałem, że kiedyś była jakaś akcja serwisowa, że zalewali więcej niż wcześniej, ale żadnym faktem tego nie podeprę. U mnie w zimie potrafi b. ciężko wchodzić 2. bieg, poza tym bez tragedii. Zamierzam wymienić olej+regulacja.

paco P u Opla było właśnie takie coś.. fabryznie było wlane 3.2l .. wtedy później jak ludzie sie skarzyli że niby jakiś bieg haczył to było wlane 2.4l.. czyli 3litry jest dobry kompromis między tym ;)

Z tymi skrzyniami to jest w ogóle cyrk. Ja mam Chevy Orlando z tą skrzynią i producent podaje... 1.9 litra :| Wymieniałem i wlewałem 1.9 - 2 - 2.2 - 2.4 i różnicy w pracy nie było. Jak haczyła 2 i 3 tak haczy :|

@@KrystianDEPL Hi, I have filled my F35 5/1 with GM genuin manual transmission oil (red) but it seems too thin when its warm. castrol Syntrans multivehicle 75w-90 or transaxle 75w-90 is better? or any good idea?

1,9L for the F40. That's what i've pulled from mine and other guy pulled 1,9L as well and a guy asked Opel and they told him 1,9L as well.

Saab F40 WIS (online service manual) indicates fill with 2.2 Liters - the total fluid level inside the casing is 2.4L.

@@KrystianDEPL Saab revised this - Check WIS (the online service manual) - direction is to fill with 2.2L The actual fluid volume is 2.4L, because some of the old fluid is trapped inside (doesn't drain).
