If you are looking for a similar custom-fit size unit for your Toyota, here is a current one that I can recommend which features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and is much higher quality.

That was awesome! Thank you for making it look so easy for even a bonehead like me! I have a 2004 highlander and I can't wait to get a new unit and save some money on the install... You just taught this old dog some new tricks!

These Gen1 Highlanders (most 2001-2007 models) do NOT need a SWC kit or adapter; they can plug right into nearly any android head-unit. You'll see the 3 wires on a 20-pin connector; Grey = common ground, Red = Key 1, Light Green = Key2.

As with most imports with analog SWC with Chinese head units or newer Sonys. The issue is instructing people to splice in wires which goes beyond many people's capabilities, but they try because they're cheap and then ask you for tech support - not my problem.

Probably a stupid question but do you think this model can fit a 7inch screen radio? The box says it fits most double din 4 x 7 dash openings

Does any double din fit the highlander? Factory one always looked small for me

Yes, the factory is actually a bit bigger (wider, but same height) as a standard double DIN. Metra 95-8202 is what you would need to fill in the gaps on the sides when installing a regular double DIN sized stereo.

This one was a base model non-JBL, but on the JBL models, you can retain the factory amplifier with an aftermarket stereo using the Metra 70-8113 harness.

This is an old unit that's no longer in production, though there are various other manufacturers now producing Toyota specific "wide double DIN" stereos, and of course you can put in any standard double DIN radio using an inexpensive dash kit.
