Laura Pausini has a lot of really great songs and she’s a great contemporary singer. I think Lara is holding back a little to give Laura room to do her thing. Lara is a totally different artist. They’re both great.

very brave when someone shows up in a duet with Lara Fabian....but the thing is...Lara Fabian is on a level that almost no one can reach...so you should think carefully about doing it.

What can I say? It's her style, Laura likes to sing like that. In my opinion she wasn't putting extra strength in this performance, she always sounds like this when she sings this song. Because was her first song, because it's represent her first love story. As a fan I can say that haven't noticed any difference between this performance and the others.

I do agree Lara was holding back a bit because it is afterall Laura's song but I don't agree Laura was overdoing it because this song in particular goes THAT hard. It is the loud way the original song is.

For me Lara is about technique and musicality. Laura is about passion, power, and interpretation. Lara use a more mixed voice. Laura use a chest voice. Two different singers. Both with a undeniable talent and in this particular duet, they sound very good together. Very enjoyable performance.

I see the energy coming from Laura is more about coming from a place of passion as the song is tied to a story that is very personal for her whereas for Lara the song didn't have the same meaning on an emotional level. That's how I interpreted it.

This was, in my opinion a great duet, with beautiful harmonies, soft moments, dramatic moments and respective solos. This song had made Laura Pausini famous. Laura did not have to worry, as Lara as she is wont to do in duets, was going to fit in" and "accompany" she who had total ownership of this song. I don't think Laura is a "pitchy" singer - she is very accomplished. Her performance was more robust, more "dominant" with the result that she did strain momentarily. Lara was relaxed and happy ( as you say), just gently moving her hips throughout,. Her tone was weak when she sang very low, but the rest was relaxed. She also made a mistake at one point, coming in too early. Perhaps they did not do enough rehearsal? If there were problems with the stage and sound, Lara's technical excellence, particularly her pitch perfection, would have stood by her.

If you listen to the "2001 studio version" of this song on the album "The Best Of", you will realize that Laura uses that power in her notes in this version. She is able to sound identical to the record. She’s incredible!

It seems to me that Laura P expended so much energy in the attempt to step up to Lara Fabian's level even though Lara was quite clearly holding back!

These two women done a spectacular performance. They have different tones on her voices, but together sounded so well and powerful in their own places.

Laura Pausini became huge with this song in Spanish in Latin America, the Latin Market gave her the spotlight to shine just like so many European artists and this is how we know her, her raspy strong voice. Even though this is in italian I can still enjoy it as the first time I heard it in Spanish growing up in LatAm. She's just great. I think Lara was being respectful and let Laura do her thing .

The best explanation for this, for Laura Pausini, I find is that this 'extra energy' was a stylistic choice; that against Lara's angelic effortlessness she tried to bring an edge/rock into the song that normally is bit bland of a song. That is, that the 'high energy' was intended to break through Lara's effortless resonance.

Two really great singer!

Although the main part of the story told in the song is fictional (the boyfriend who had to move because of the job of his father), some other parts are authentic because Laura Pausini really had a boyfriend named Marco (but they broke up before the song was launched) and she really caught the train at 7.30 am to go to school. In the beginning, before Warner asked Pausini to sing this song at the Sanremo Festival in 1993, the story told had to be about a friendship and Anna was the name of the friend. Somehow, that was a great coincidence because Laura lost a friend named Anna in a car accident shortly before. Then Pausini and her staff preferred to dedicate to Pausini's friend Anna another song ("Perché non torna più", meaning "why doesn't it come back anymore") and for La solitudine they thought it was better to talk about a love story, so the lyrics were changed. Both are amazing. Anyways this song will always belong to Laura Pausini's voice. No one can ever cover her songs e sound better. And i'm not saying Lara Fabian isn't amazing too. Laura wouldn't sing Malade as good as Lara did it too. And i speak italian, i understand every word and the feeling behind them so i know which voice sounds better here.

Roma Piazza di Spagna 22 agosto 2002.. I was there 😊. Lara also did sing Caruso.. There was also another very popular singer Toto cutugno😊. But that mini concert wasn't that amazing because the acoustic of the place wasn't very good. Piazza di Spagna, stairs, open space and not high amplification level cause building and people living there close by. Laura Pausini is really popular world wide and she is a very warm and passionate singer, even if is not well known as a good technique holder. But I saw her in concert twice and she gives always the best of herself. Lara is much more trained, much more clear tone and technique and amazing breath control.. And here she was holding a little yes trying not to cover and overtake Laura, because at the end of the day, this is Laura Pausini most famous song and she did want to show respect. By the way...amazing and perfect Italian diction for Lara. It's a language that she loves and you can see it and how much she loves Italian music. Beautiful performance , Lara is steps ahead but I guess we cannot compare them about technique. As I said before we all know that Laura Pausini has not a good training but we love her for her passion.

Until very, very recently I simply just chalked this up to Pausini having one of those bad nights with this. (I think she even flipped to another key accidentally at one point but Fabian helped everything back.) Fabian was a rock through this. THEN, about 3 weeks ago I watched Fabian's Caruso from the same concert. Even she had a wobble or two. (Albeit minor and extremely quickly corrected.) So I started paying attention to the monitors/sound set-up, placement of supporting singers and instruments and came to the same conclusion you did: I firmly believe the acousrics etc proved murder for the singers on this occasion here.

This is one of Laura Pausini's signature songs. So maybe there was a little bit of fear involved on her side that Lara Fabian might take over and take her own song away from her so to speak.

Honestly not my favorite duet. My suggestion for Lara's duets that are rarely mentioned but are great: 1. Mario Frangoulis & Lara- "All Alone Am I" she sings part in English part in Greek. Mario is great 2. Nana Mouskouri & Lara-" La Vie, L'amour, La Mort". She is one of Lara's idols. No crazy vocals, but everything else is too beautiful 3. Dmitri Hvorostovsky & Lara- "Toi et Moi".
