Love that you've gotten a sponsor :) just a suggestion, maybe delay the start of that intro by 0.5 seconds after the video starts, and have a 0.5-1second delay from the intro ending to your recording starting? now it felt like a flash, i think it would be good with a (very small) lingering period. thanks for your coverage as always!

Okay amazing game by Hikaru but I have to ask, if players now have to resort to 3rd rate sidelines just to get to a fresh position, what does that say about the state of chess? Same with the Firo game in Rd 1 -- Firo accepted a very broken up pawn structure for the sake of achieving a fresh position. So, between over-booked-up players and engine analysis, seems to me that the openings have been just about picked clean. Maybe time to take Fischer Random more seriously?
@PowerPlayChess
@PowerPlayChess 3 ай бұрын
I wouldn’t be so gloomy about the state of openings. They were very interesting choices from Firouzja and Nakamura which paid off for Naka and almost came good for Alireza.

Huge amount of work from Hikaru, preparing a playable line in a sub optimal variation. If Fabuano had just a little more time would he have escaped? He'll need another variation for his next encounter with 1. e4. Danny's artwork on the floor behind him (2 pieces seen in last video - wider angle). They look like chess players. No more wall space in front of camera.

Only chess and cricket can deliver excitement over an extended period of time where everything ends in a draw! Tiny increment of psychological advantage to Hikaru? Pragg is the wildcard in my (extremely) humble opinion.

Wow I wonder how far Hikaru calculated on ..Rxf2? I suppose, all the way to make sure it's a perpetual

@infernal314

@@PowerPlayChess But is it possible for players of this level to be intuitively sure that there is a perpetual? Not that it was too difficult to make a precise calculation here but perhaps in other positions?
@PowerPlayChess
@PowerPlayChess 3 ай бұрын
@@infernal314 We have to speak of specific positions. Here, Nakamura would have intuitively suspected there was something for Black in the position (White's queen and rook across the other side of the board would suggest there is something) and then he would have gone into calculation mode.

So, it's reasonable to assume that with... say 30sec increment - Fabi would win this one. It's a hustle.

One could argue that both Fabi and Naka are the two weakest in the field when it comes to "nerves". Which is ironic because they are the two highest rated players in the tournament. I've always felt that has been Naka's achilles heel in his career. Fabi in time scrambles seems to succumb to it too. Of course, we're all humans affected by nerves. However, I do think these two are affected more by it then they should be. They have plenty of experience. And as Naka claims, he doesn't care if he ever becomes world champion. So, he has no excuse. I think this is one of the things that makes Magnus, Magnus. He doesn't fear losing. He's not afraid to play in unclear positions. You can tell by Naka's opening choice that he wanted one and only one thing in this game, a draw as black against Fabi. He was willing to suffer for hours to get it. That's fine, but it's not ambitious. That's not something Magnus would do. I don't know if that's something a world champion does. I was mildly disappointed Fabi didn't make Naka suffer more, when he had the advantage. Fabi's worst enemy, time, got him again. Interesting game though. I hear the rest of the "high rated" encounters happen at the end of the tourney. Might have been more interesting if this game happened at the end too.

Says one to the other " and then in the finale, al get draws. War of the worlds style they do not intend to make it look like fun..to the extend that 'fun'. is a concept known to caste society India, where monks and cows are holy, you cannot bump into them. Why am i saying this? pondering what gets next to fun, in societies where this word isn in the vocabulary. You can touch the holy item, but remain at distance of 1,478 feet. Btw Netherlands has for everyone foreign word a Holland version, but not for hypocrite. It strikes me as no co incidence ..

In particular the toy store style chess computers (not software i.e.) have toingngng sounds, when the ehm..the human au fond, does something stupid. It s quite annoying.. Maybe you get more hits too. So now they intend to end all at 7,987 point each , and then gamble for it i.e. tie breaks. In some way, it is consequent with market that shrinka annd Boston Consultancy Quadrant strategies (dog, wild cat, cow milk that thing). Content,in their case 'the product'. indeed suffers. Examples given in Marketing textbooks for product excellence are BTW # totally lame ohs # .. that isn t helping. People smile a lot in this job/ concept / chatgroup (ehm..marketing what s it?) , but do they mean it, too ?

I see that Daniel is still thumping the table with each keyboard press and disturbing the microphone, when is he going to learn to position the microphone where it won't be distrubed by his keyboard antics and not provide a background sound track of thumping? It is utterly distracting and unpleasant.
