I make a hammer rack for the growing collection of hammers and blacksmithing tools. A simple but effective way to organize tools in a limited space.

Him, Alec Steele, and Eli from the KZfaq channel ZNA Productions have all inspired me to work with my hands more often*. I credit Torbjörn and Alec for my first ever anvil I bought about a month ago. *Leah from the channel See Jane Drill also deserves a mention, without her I wouldn’t be building my first sawhorses

Thanks, I just built myself a new shop and now have to store all my tools and materials in a smart way, I don't think I need such a big and professional rack (I don't have so many hammers nor do I need them, and chisel hammers and punches will get more over the time but for now I have only 5 or so), I think I will build a similar rack like that one from wood that you replaced :) Greetings from Germany, Edgar

Lovely demo of your hammer rack, very precise and I particularly love the 'hammerblack' paint finish. ...A year or so ago I built mine from some old, tough straight-grain pitch pine, so when I plonk my hammers into it, it's a nice dull thud instead of a clang. Thank you again for this interesting video and I wish you many blessings. Best, Wendi

I absolutely loved the part where you were aligning the tubing to ensure it was square, and you tapped it with the engineering square [WINCE!]. My first thought was "Hmm, if only he had a hammer he could do that with...." Awesome rack! I do hope that those are eight STRONG wood screws though!

Great idea, thanks for the video! I thought it was funny that you have so many hammers that you need to make a new rack for them, but then you do what most other people would do and use whatever's nearby to knock the tube into alignment 😉

@@torbjornahman i really mean it. Planning my personal lab and workshop seeing how you complete simpe tasks like this for the order of the tools its inspirational. How easy you make everything look even if they are not, motivates me to just do something. Just looking at your workshop inspires someone to the first steps of starting their workshop. Also, i love the touch of everyday tasks such as watering the plants or showing around. It reminds me not to be self consumed by my craft (as i have been) and living a true, meaningfull and unmaterialistic life. You are one of the best.

I haven't read all the comments, so forgive me if this has been mentioned. A nice way to finish the end of square tubing is to cut the pieces long by the dimension of the tubing (think of it as adding a cube of tubing) then cut three of the faces of the cube away, leaving a tab which is the thickness of the tube wall. This can be accomplished by two cuts with a bandsaw or hacksaw. Hammer that tab over and weld the three sides for a tidy end cap. If you're using CREW (cold-rolled, electric welded) which has a seam, clearly, you'll want to avoid using the seam side for this. It's important to remember -- if precise length is required -- that this adds a bit more than the thickness of the tube to the length.

Hey Torbjörn, I just saw a video by the Alex Steele channel about making dinosaur Damascus and in the video I saw a power hammer tool being used that made triangular shapes. It looked like a set of jaws that bounced back up on springs. The reason why I’m mentioning this to you is because I noticed you like to round the edges of your ingots pretty often and the jaws that I saw could possibly cut your effort in half.
