Its....Fabulous Ficus Friday! Today I'm working on a Ficus elastica, a Fiddle Leaf Fig, a Ficus benghalensis, a Ficus religiosa and a Sabre leaf Fig.

I have been reading Jerry Meislik on your recommendation, and really loving the insight. Off to a club show now, and hoping to find either a willow leaf, or a natal fig while I am there. With Monty Python in my head all day . . . 🤣😂

Gee - I thought that the Zombie Apocalypse had begun. Oh! Wait! It was just NIgel's intro for Ficus Friday. LOL Have you considered adding a Melon Seed Ficus to your collection. I have one in my bonsai collection. I went with it because it has small leaves, creates air roots and can be maintained as a small bonsai. Thought it would be easier for me to manage as I age. Enjoyed this video.

I had a thought, that making a bonsai is like making music. You need many, many repeated sounds, one after another, just like in bonsai, one pruning after another. One can not expect to make music with only one strike.

There is sources on the internet that claims the earth is flat, so I would not eat the leaves just because some sources on the internet says it is safe´.. ;)

Great video Nigel. I love the leaf pruning, on your ficus elastica, I read somewhere recently that the leaves on the base of the stalks don’t regrow if you cut them off? Is this the case? I don’t want to prune mine if the leaves are not likely to regrow.

I have two rubber plants that my brother gave me they was half dead they are coming back now I was thinking about turning them into bonsai they are planted in Coco fiber do they take to placing them in bonsai soil ....

Nigel...Looking to dip my toe into trying a Ficus...I'm looking for something that can live outdoors during the Summer and over Winter in a heated green house. Novice proof? You have a ficus that has long slender leaves but I can't find it and don't know the name but I liked it very much...What do you think?

Many of the Ficus can handle temperatures down to just above freezing. The ones I'd stay away from are Ficus benjamina and Tigerbark. They like it a bit warmer in winter. A very hardy species that can handle freezing are the edible figs, Ficus carica. They like a cold winter and can be made into a nice bonsai eventually. They do have large leaves at first. The one i have with the long pointy leaves is the Sabre leaf Ficus, it can also take a cool winter, but not freezing.

Enough of this ficus lessness i got a few now evin tvo i still dont have any real "inside" or "indoor" in winter. My new ficus are cuttings from a Benjamina "be lovely" a mini varigated leaf.

I like all plants with interesting coloring in their leaves. I had a Benjamina once, but it didn't survive the winter. Now I have a tiny variegated Elastica which I bought a couple of months ago. I'm just growing it as a houseplant, but I may use some bonsai pruning methods to keep it in check.

Hey nigel! Be careful with ficus. It's nit edible to humans when mature but leaf buds that are enclosed i pink sheath are. We make pickles out of it. But that's not all ficus. We call the one ne we eat as Pakur. Serch for pakur Jharkhand India. It'll lead yu to what it's called. Im not sure but it could be white ficus. Edit: Search for pakur plant as there's a district also named after it called pakur.

@@TheBonsaiZone If ya want Pakur pickles just hit me up. They're good for (let's see... the oldest pickle I've eaten by is 30 yrs old preserved n oil. We preserve pickle in mustard oil.) Anyway the point is. It'll survive transport. Cheers!

@@sasquatchdonut2674 Nope. I just know it when i see it. it mostly grows in the jungles outside the city where I'm from. Only time i recognise them is when all the leaves ar shed and big thick finger like red leaf buds appear. The whole tree looks deep red and on flames.
