My wife cross-shopped the Kia Sorento hybrid with the Toyota Highlander and after lots of reading and driving both, bought the Kia. She doesn't regret it.

One thing I've noticed about Kias is that you find yourself enjoying the drive. They do have some satisfying peppiness. Whereas Toyotas get you from A to B, but oh so boring. There's just something about the way it shifts that takes all enjoyment out of the ride. I actually own a RAV4 and regret my decision.

I know this is from one year ago but now (April 2023) comparing a Sorento Ex to it's equivalent Highlander the Sorento is $4,500 cheaper. I just bought the Sorento. I have no complaints with the rotary shifter. Six seats is fine for me. I'll rarely use more than 4 and the second row captains chairs are very comfortable.

Rav4 and Highlander are two totaly different cars. Owned both.

Interesting that he referred to the CVT as a hybrid transmission. CVT transmissions have been used in gas only motors for a long time.

I will stick with KIA EX and has much better for the bucks, save environment and still have 6 row seats and can do A to B either. Toyota Highlander is good but not the the price above 50 K plus compare to Lexus 450h which is much much better................

Thank you for your video but I have few comments to put out here. The fact that you brought two vehicles that has different list priced make your conclusion biases. If you were able to bring similar priced Highlander or even bring Sorento PHEV(which has similar price to Highlander you tested) would be better. Maybe I missed out but I didn't see any significant pros on highlander or cons on Sorento, concerns that you made this video after you have made your mind. Overall, I'd love to see another video that has fair comparison.

Sorry Sung Li but I just compare prices in UK as well as Poland as I'm Polish living in UK and the prices with the same specs were really 2-5% different (Toyota been the expensive car). However, after visiting Toyota dealer in Poland, I choose a model with towbar (no cutting to the bumper new version) AWD lots of specs and dealer dropped the price down to 235000PLN where the start price was 254000PLN with no towbar. I have checked KIA Sorento first and after configuring the same specs KIA came to 233.500PLN with no towbar (I have decided for towbar few days after KIA visit). So KIA 233.500PLN Toyota 235000PLN (but with a new model towbar fitted). How can you say the cars are not comparable? Also my points: 2h test drive in KIA and 2h drive in Toyota I have compared both on the same road, same speeds and same driving conditions (temperature 15deg.dry road). Toyota has been more efficient!!! Not by much, it was 0.2-0.3l/100km but TBH Toyota has bigger engine, also accelerates faster (I have checked it with my driftbox 60-100km/h and 80-120km/h and Toyota won both). I'm not a fan of CVT but driven normally with family I couldn't tell it was CVT only when I was really going for it. Faster, more economical, bigger (I got 4 kids) and the same price or just a tad more expensive. What's wrong with buying a highlander?

@@HaveAagutd Thought you were the original video uploader but I guess not. Here's your problem; first, you didn't compare the vehicles here in North America. We all know vehicle manufactures produces and change features depends on the markets. You can't just bring random country and tell me why is it not comparable when THEIR price is similar. This video is sole comparison on North American models and therefore it's not fair due to the price point. Also I don't know you've done it in purpose but you can literally see my name is Li. Hope you can get some eye check later this summer.

The KIA kicks the Highlander's ass, and is thirteen thousand dollars cheaper.

Only issue with kia is about its reliability after 100,000 miles.

Yes! My Optima hit 100k earlier this yr and broke down within 5k miles. Fortunately Kia also rocks and since I had some recalls during my 100k service, I had an extended warranty that is covering the repairs. Love Kia.

Toyota hybrid has no CVT or a gearbox, it has a "planetary power split" with only one gear. Nor does it have a turbo! Kia on the other hand is bloated with redundant moving parts; its a regular car with a hybrid system added to it.

Thanks for a non biased answer. I choose Highlander cause I owned KIA for 4 years and it was not as good quality as they pretending to be. Also in my country the price was the same for me (I have already replied to Sung Li pointing out why I chose Toyota
