What can I say - you are simply incredible and I love watching you go thru the process and explaining your process. I’m not an artist but just someone who loves your work. Thank you for continuing to create these videos.

Fascinating. I'm taking a class this summer and we use charcoal daily. I never used it much so I found your channel looking for help. You do these so fluidly and I love the push/pull with the shadows and highlights. Thanks for sharing your expertise.

my brain can't really process with this kind of technique tbh like my brain will get lost especially if there's no sketch drawn, like this really caught me a huge interest since I'm a big fan of freehand portraits. I must say this technique is not recommended for newbies like me this is for professionals or higher levels

I used to look at the practice of drawing as painting's poor cousin. I drew roughly just to be able to proceed with the application of my oils. It was only a means to an end. But I have come to appreciate and value drawing for its own sake. It is an elegant art that can bear profound results ! The work I've done with graphite and charcoal during these past months of 'sheltering in place’ have yielded pieces that stand up more than favorably to my oil paintings.

I love your work and your videos! I'm teaching myself to draw and paint. I have charcoal but it never quite works out but I'm going to try again. Anyway the advice of 'highlights above the detail and shadows below' is so helpful. Thank you for that!

At almost any point along the way, I could have called the drawing done. Do you ever work on a slightly textured surface? Liquitex makes a clear gesso that leaves a very fine sandpaper effect . I roll it onto 184 lb weight paper. Anything thinner buckles.

You draw way better than Casey Baugh. I don't know why that guy's so popular. I can name so many people on youtibe who're way more talented than he is. (Learnt a little handy trick here, too!) I wish you more progress in terms of subscribers. Keep up the great work!

Please, will you tell me what type of fixative you use? I'm having trouble storing my charcoals because of smudging. Thank you!
@renzo6490
@renzo6490 Жыл бұрын
I never use fixative, personally. I find it changes my drawings in a negative way. Instead, I place a piece of glassine paper over my drawings if I stack them in a box etc. But mostly, I put my best work behind glass in a frame. You can often find cheap frames in thrift stores. The frame itself might be ugly or marred but once behind glass, your work will be preserved.

Your drawings are beautiful, but your explanations are low. I didn't figured out what should I follow when I start a drawing. You just make some strikes and after 5 minute already obtain a real charcoaled face. Be more explicit. Thanks!
