The bow now is only used in the martial art to temper mind and body. This means of training heart, technique, and strength via the bow has developed into the modern art of Kyudo (Japanese archery). Bows were made from natural materials like bamboo, but in modern times, cheap bows made with synthetic materials are common, and few craftsmen make traditional bamboo bows. Craftsmen that make bows are called bowyers.#bowmaking #longbow #bamboobow
Today the main character is a young bowyer named Munehiro Shibata. Munehiro lives in Kyoto, the origin of many traditions of Japanese culture, and works at the Shibata Kanjuro longbow shop. The Shibata family has a 500-year history of passing down Kyo-yumi techniques and traditions. Munehiro’s mentor and father are the 21st Kanjuro Shibata. Thus, the bows are highly valued, of course as tools in archery, but also for their quality as cultural artifacts. Munehiro has been watching his father since infancy, aware that he too would become a bowyer in the future, and officially became Kanjuro’s pupil when he turned 23.
The biggest part of the bow-making process is the bend of five curves on the bamboo bow where you succeed or fail, so it was quite scary. Recognizing one’s mistakes is a big step, and now Munehiro shows his stunning bow, made with the master’s help.
The bow is used for a few months; thousands of arrows were shot to stabilize its shape. Alongside the bowyer craftsman name that continues to be passed down. With the support and belief of his family, he opens the door to tomorrow and takes another step towards his dream.

It’s amazing how they discovered the art of building strength by using the lamination over a thousand years ago and it is still valid today. The only thing that has changed in modern times is the materials we laminate today. Their bows remain unchanged traditional implements.

All the videos on this channel are great, but sometimes I want to hear only the sound of work without background music.

Oh this cracks me up, you're showing bow making with it rich history as an ancient art of great skill and honor, which I very much respect, but when he's measuring the bow thickness he pulls out micrometer... what?? Seems a bit over kill and definitely not ancient. But it is beautiful work.

웃길려고 하는거지? 저것도 활이냐? 일본인들은 가르쳐 줘도 제대로 만들줄 모른다 일본의 고대문명은 다 한국인이 만들어준 문화재들이다
