The 340 is stuck on idrive8 isn't it? The driver assist, and I use that term loosely, falls incredibly short of useable.

Can the lane keep assist be used independently from the adaptive cruise or will it only be active with adaptive cruise is activated

The gearshift is actually a downgrade. Try upshifting using steering mounted paddles while drifting :/

Hi Justin, greetings from the land down under, and thanks for the review. For work I currently drive the V6 twin turbo Stinger and am currently looking at the next company vehicle. Your review has tipped me in the direction of the M340i. I understand why you can’t play music whilst reviewing however I’m interested in the audio quality as the 15 speaker Harmon Kardon in the Stinger is one of my all time favourites. 👍😎🇦🇺

Thank you and cheers from Northern Ontario! Very good question and I hope some actual owners chime in on this because they've got more experience than I do. I wish I had some more detailed notes to look back on, but what I can tell you is that over the years I have always really enjoyed the high end BMW options. Bowers & Wilkins system in the Volvos probably being my all-time favorite. I like your choice in company cars 👌👌

I own this great driving 2023 BMW M340i xDrive. I love driving this car very much, it is a fun car to drive. But ... I hate the new controls on this car as everything you must do is thru the center screen, and I mean everything. This is very dangerous as the driver must take their eyes off the road to change or do whatever they need to do and as every control is layers deep it takes time and long effort to do the changes. Whoever designed this horrible and dangerous system should be fired. BMW must change this terrible and unfriendly dangerous system ASAP. I made a mistake buying this car. If you are thinking about buying this model car do yourself a huge favor and check these very dangerous shortcomings BEFORE you buy it. You can thank me later.

Really? I recently had a 330e lci as a courtesy car while my 2020 3series was being repaired. At first hated the controls but after 1 week I preferred them, use is seamless and intuitive, absolutely no problems using whilst driving. Essential controls are on the main panel. Genuinely astonished anyone would be struggling so much for it to be dangerous after a few weeks with this system.

That’s why they are rushing out Idrive 8.5. To rectify some of those issues. It’s still not as nice as Idrive 7 but at least it’s getting better.

If you want to keep the car long-term and don't mind the fuel costs, you could go Lexus IS 500... But it's not available in AWD, like this M340i is. Both are amazing, but probably for two different buyers. If it's a daily, and you are doing big miles, I'd go BMW. If it is not a commuter and is primarily used for pleasure, I'd go Lexus. Leasing is kinda stupid in the long run, but it does mean lower monthly payments and less commitment.

What is the purpose of no gear lever? It doesn’t seem to add any value or solve any problems. I prefer the gear lever.

Of note, the IS 500 actually makes MORE power than the M340i, which is contrary to what you said.

I miss the old days that interior design was exciting , when you sit in, give you those different design, shape, makes you feel different than other brands, excitement, instead of now just slap you with huge long square screens..

Why is there an "M" preceding "340"?? Trim doesn't count.

@@layne4376 More to an authentic "M" than speed in a straight line. Fact is it's a very small part. Trust me I'm in the know. Small thing, non M's are built in Mexico along with the current M2. So much for that Bavarian ride. Well you do get that Bavarian price tag😄 Silver lining.

There three M used by bmw the first are small m badging on the steering wheel and wheels and the added trim package which is nothing more than an appearance package. The M proceeding the numbers such as M340 is a performance in the engine upgrade and of course visual cues. The M and a single number such as M3 indicate a full and true M series car. So a car such as this m340 does have a little flex as part of the m line up it’s not a true M but it does have some flex.

@@362chop My wife's X3 was built in South Carolina, and yet, it is a quality item. No creaks or rattles, and drives smooth as butter. It doesn't matter where it is built. It matters that BMW is supervising the process.

@layne4376 Thanks for reminding me why I read but not very often make a comment. I may have been short in an explanation without listing the dozens of things that can change with adding the m-sport package to a standard bmw as depending on the series there can be a wide variety of added items yet I will stand by my short but simplified explanation for someone asking a basic question. The performance is not increased as you should know being you drive a m440. You would know the engine is the same b-48 with the standard 255 hp as all 330 will have. Now like your m440 as you should know has a b58 which is in many bmw’s yet since you have the m440 you have the high output version of the b58. Thus differences in performance not ride comfort as sport suspension would take away from because the performance of less body roll during a high speed corner is negligible as are the brakes prettier yes a small increase by negligible mm in rotor size maybe increasing your stopping distance by small margins yes but not what many would say are performance upgrades. See I so didn’t want to be an ass and yet I’ve started turning into one here. I do apologize for this response. Let’s not be what bmw owners are supposedly known to be aka douche bags. I do enjoy my bmw as I’m waiting on the third one I will have owned to be built.

@@ARentz07 While being charged Bavarian prices i'd prefer my build from across the pond. When BMW Spartanburg began some 20 years ago i understood the decision, made sense. But this Mexico thing , and it has NOTHING to do with Mexico itself , it soured me. BMW saves while the consumer gets screwed. Mercedes doing the same thing, C63 Sedan, Mexico. This just strikes a nerve with me, nothing personal. Good luck with everything👍

What is pissing me off is the more and more honda looking stance and curves on bmw's. If you removed all the badging, you wouldn't be able to distinguish it from a honda. My 2012 bmw 335i looks way better then these newer ones.

But many do copy BMW. You know how many reviews i read about Mazda, Hyundai and Kia how they “resemble” BMW or are “like” BMW. I don’t ever want a vehicle that is aspiring to be another vehicle brand. It’s just so lame to me. Some people don’t care, they just wanna get from point a to b.

With the $$ you would save buying the dynamically superior G70 3.3t, it would take 20 years before the fuel savings would catch up. By then, the M340 will long be in the scrap yard.

@@SlipAngleG70 Glad you are liking it. The G70 was on my short list as well along with the M340i. But, I ended up going IS 500 because I am a sucker for the V-8. My wallet does not thank me when I am at the gas pump... but it is a fun car. The G70 was, too. It was the V-8 and my prior ownership experiences with Lexus that led me to choose it. All are great cars - the Lexus is probably the most polarizing because underneath, it's an old car. Alas. 🙂
