Being most Mexicans are mestizos and are a mixed race made up of spanish/or other euro mixed with Indigenous Amerindian ancestry and they are brown most often they are not seen as white. The other 30% of the Latin American descended population in the US is of various origins and is mostly either also mestizo (spanish/euro and indigenous amerindian), mulato (spanish/euro and black African) or triracial (spanish/euro, indigenous amerindian, black African) while white Latin Americans are a small percentage and Spaniards in the US are an even smaller percentage. Texas was once part of Mexico. He native Americans DNA isn’t recent, and the Longoria family trace their ancestry to Asturias in Spain! There are many Longoria in south Texas, they came from Tamaulipas and Nuevo León to Texas in the 1700s and 1800s. My grandma is a Longoria, and we have been in Texas for generations. The original Longoria came to northeastern Mexico from Spain in the 1500s, when most of the conquistadors arrive in Mexico. She’s a mix, like most people who trace their heritage to Mexico are. She’s just very proud of her family’s lineage. There’s nothing wrong with that!

I’m similar in that my ancestry is traced to what is now Zapata County Texas 1677. Back then, “Texas”was wild terrain maintained by my ancestors lead by Spain. So, I say I’m 9th generation Texan.
