THANK YOU for talking about this! I am in my 40s. This is an area that needs to be openly talked about so women know what to expect and the options they have. They can take that knowledge and make the best choice for themselves to manage their menopause. There is no reason why we should have to suffer through it.

I had periods lasting up to 8 weeks at a time every 3 to 4 months for five years. At the end of each cycle, I would have a really bad migraine followed by the worst hot flashes in the world and then mini-strokes. I saw more than 12 specialists, and no one could figure it out. I kept telling them that it had to be a hormone because only a hormone was like clockwork. They were finally going to give me a hormone pill when my cycle stopped. I've been just fine ever since. What made it so bad is that doctors would not listen to me. Unfortunately, this happens a lot being female and especially being black. When we talked about how doctors just brush off our concerns, it's real

When Gayle said "crime scene," I guffawed. Been there and done that. Had so many issues that I bled every day for a whole year when I was 36. I had a hysterectomy and opted not to go on HRT. I have no regrets, but now at 58, a hot flash will still light me up every now and then. This was a very enlightening and necessary conversation.

I applaud this conversation & I believe more conversation is needed about fertility. I’d like to see a conversation about how older women have children at age 48, 50, 55+. They make it seem like they naturally had a child & it might not be the case. Women need to be leaders in this area of conversation!

So grateful to see conversations like this! I suffer from PMDD. I've been through 3 gynecologist, because no one will deal with this! They say that it's a psychological issue and Psychiatrist say that it's a gynecologist issue. Something needs to be addressed regarding this 8% of women that struggle with this! It's unimaginable to the normal person, what we experience and go through, mentally and physically! I am a warrior in my eyes, for surviving it. PMDD is more prevelant in childhood sexual abuse victims.

I am now on Effexor and it’s actually helping so so much, I was really hesitant to use anti Ds but it’s honestly been a game changer, I know it’s not for everyone .. best of luck ❤

I like the way the summer everything up at the end. There are women like myself that have a horrible time of it. Along with the fact you will have people who will make you feel bad about it or laugh at you. I never got the support I needed. Luckily I was able to see an OB- GYN with the insurance I had that put me on HRT. It was a godsend for me. No woman should ever have to suffer the extreme symptoms of this when there's medication you can take. You also need a caring and understanding doctor who will listen and work with you. That isn't always so easy to find.

I am so grateful! Look forward to watching the other 2 instalments! I had almost no perimenopausal or menopausal symptoms, thank Godess ! I did experience infertility treatment in my early 40s - it was horrible. One thing that dawned on me at that time: all the years of conversations on responsible birth controll and STD prevention in doctor offices , brochures and articles ...no one question, sentence or word on fertility ! I thought I was an educated , well informed woman...not!

Finally! Thank you for this conversation, it’s SO important and SO NEEDED! The sexual/gynecological education in this world has been abysmal and lacking and I have had so much fear and confusion about what’s coming and exactly when lol?! On top of that, I already have crazy period problems like endo & fibroids so I’m already struggling to figure out how to best deal with my body and feelings of illness and pain. Never heard of perry menopause before either but I’ll add it to my list of things to look up 😆. Anyway, thank you Gayle and CBS Mornings and please have more in-depth shows on this, I’d love it 🙏 ❤

I am 55 1/2 and still got my period up to 2 months ago. It may still come again. I knew I was in perimenopause with irregular period, heavier a few days, bad mood swings, fatigue, migraines. It's awful. I also have Ulcerative Colitis and my period always affected it. I do get hot flashes off and on, and got belly fat with no change in diet. I wish more women would talk about it. If in the gyno world, most doctors are not taught all the things women go through in Perimenopause. The see you for pregnancy and menopause, but the middle step is missing. I found a doctor on line that is such a great educator of Perimenopause and menopause. Her name is Mary Claire Haver out of Texas and created the Galveston Diet. Unfortunately, you have to live there to see her, but I love all her educational Tik Toks and You Tube videos. She is real, explains everything, and HRT.

What a missed opportunity to seriously discuss menopause and the various approaches to address its most severe symptoms. By making it funny, we trivialize and diminish what women go through. Vaginal dryness is due to decreasing estrogen and can make sex very painful . Sudden fatigue, mood swings, insomnia, weight gain etc…we should talk earlier about all of it without shame and do more research.

I had that also but i still get pap smears which is the number 1 detector of cervical/uterine cancer. I have no idea why you still get cramps as there is no monthly thickening of uterus, then shedding-bleeding. I may feel a very minor pain when ovary releases egg, I will know which ovary did it, but it is nothing like period cramps and inflammation. Perhaps you need an ultrasound or CT. When i had my ablation, I also had laparoscopic abd surg to remove cyst on fallopian tube. Idk why but that cyst was bend over painful. After both procedures, I felt so much better. Good luck.

I recently went to my OB/GYN and my PCP and they both were talking to me about preparing to go into perimenopause at some point. So, I was like I guess I better start preparing. Ironically enough because Drew Barrymore is the same age as me, I just randomly thought is she going through this? It’s a bit strange because as a woman so much of your life is your period. I don’t talk to my mother about it as she’s one of those jealous mothers. The only thing I’m not looking forward to are the flashes and dry vagina. I like having with my man.

I have been going through this for 10 years and for the last 3, I have been prescribed Gabapentin off-label for hot flashes. It has changed my life. It brings my hot flashes down from 15-20/day to 2. I sleep better, my mood is better, I am a completely different person when I'm taking it than when I'm not. So? Older women like Gayle, who have already been through menopause, can help women who are going through peri NOW, like Drew.

Being a woman is so tough, especially medical care. Monthly period which may include pain and discomfort, childbirth, and menopause. Don’t forget childcare for at least 18 years. That is the reason I prefer having boy so baby life does not have to go through so many difficulties.
