I'm 48! I didn't know what was going on! The night sweats, the 20 day cycle windows, dry skin, dry hair, my sudden inability to process citric acid, insomnia etc. My mother died suddenly last August after learning 19 days prior that she had grapefruit size tumors in her brain. I honestly thought these 'unfortunates' were side effects of my depression/bereavement. But I realize now it is merely a long term drop in visit from menopause.😮‍💨

I'm 43. I lost my mom in 2019 due to her brain tumor. I was 38 and went downhill after that, now I know that my effects were more than grief. 100% peri. Thankful to now be finding relief 5 years later!

41 here! Just started on bcp 4 months ago even though I had tubal ligation after my daughter. Wow has it balanced me out. Finally the night sweats, rage, brain fog, chronic fatigue, insomnia etc etc has subsided and I feel me again. So grateful my mom alerted me to this in my teens and I have a great OB! Perimenopause can last 10 years!

I have never been on bcp before and am looking into it for peri. I’m a 37F and have just started experiencing light symptoms. I’m glad to hear it has worked for you…hearing positive stories makes me less anxious to try it. Did you find any other side effects from taking them?

Yes please 🙏🏼!!! I actually started to become aware of of this perimenopause from Drew’s you tube add where she was screaming from the roof top that she had perimenopause 😂. I was like “ wait what?” What the hell is happening to Drew? And I really laughed hard because I thought, Wow! The add is crazy in a good way, it does the job catch the attention and delivers the message, freaking great! Thanks Drew for allowing yourself to be vulnerable, it helps many of us too. From woman to woman I say Thank You! And to the Dr. and the host also thank you bringing this conversation out into the world, we need it. I have been understanding so many things and making adaptations and adjustments. Thanks

Hmmmmmm ... I must have missed the "excitement" part of menopause. The hot flashes, night sweats, sleepless nights, anxiety, anger issues, weight gain, loss of libido - yep, yep, yep. All of that, loud and clear. But excitement? Skipped me altogether. Still waiting on that one.

Hi there, Love love all this information and I can not thank you enough. Can you please address endometriosis and how to successfully navigate HRT with this condition, I understand you can’t give strict medical advice and so forth but I really could use some basic information. My understanding is that estrogen can cause my endometriosis lesions to start growing again. I am really hoping to find the right questions to ask , articles to read and care to advocate for myself. I am so grateful for you being on this journey with me so far. Hugs , Wendy

Yes, very disappointing that Dr. Haver didn't get more of a chance to share your wisdom. Not sure why they chose to bring Barrymore in for segment. Why not just have Gayle interview Dr. Haver? A 5-min segment that stayed totally at surface level---very disappointing.

Great interview Gayle and Drew!! Gayle and Drew and your follow up report on the topic of menopause has been awesome information!! In “Health Watch OBGYN and menopause specialist Dr. Mary Claire Haver discussed her book “the new menopause “ which Dr. Haver went into the advancement of menopause awareness today versus earlier years in both the medical industry and people’s knowledge of menopause. The open discussion of menopause symptoms such as different types of menopause such as perimenopause Drew has who discussed her interest in Dr. Haver’s view of women having menopause not necessarily being identical to others symptoms and needs. Gayle pointed out Dr. Haver’s medical tool kit which is based on menopause symptoms ,which I I thought was a great idea, along with Dr. Haver’s book having the quote “ menopause is inevitable, suffering is not”. ❤❤

Joint pain, severe aching in lower half of the body, not my abdomen, waking stiff and achey, terrible sleep from pain & wrestless leg, crawling in the bones feeling, dry eye, lame eyes, trouble falling asleep, waking up after a few hours for no reason , never happened before , bad forgetfulness, anxious, hair falling out, not believed , gas lit, I dare men to try all of this while uncontrollably gaining weight and having a saggy face, & being an unpaid primary care giver, and having a career, to pay for this all…

The New menopause... As always some famous people are letting you listen to their Conversation in the Hope you can actually can get some practical tools out of it to implement into your own (peri) menopausal life. But no... Always the same, you can buy the book and anything else that has, been said is really not new anymore. Sorry, had to say it!

I have breast/prostate cancer survivors in my immediate family and although I am not a BRCA gene carrier, I have also been advised against HRT. I just realized that I was dealing with perimenopause about 4 years ago and it was horrible, there were times I thought I was going crazy. I am now in full menopause, a couple of months ago I was starting to gain weight in my midsection and feeling very sluggish despite consistently exercising 3x a week. So I changed things up. I started doing time restricted eating (eating good foods during my eating window), I gave up diet soda(which I consumed daily), drastically decreased my sugar intake and traded the elliptical machine for weights. I’m on week 6 and I am feeling so much better. My clothes are back to feeling good, I have more energy, more clarity of thought and headaches are gone. I also had a blood panel last week and everything is looking good. Not sure about your options, but talk with your doctor about making other changes to help you along. I imagine hrt to be a magic bullet for most women, but some of us have to make our own magic.😉. I pray that you never have to battle cancer again. Stay brave and strong, be kind to your body and work on doing the best you can with what you’ve been given. 💕

Keep working with your practitioner. Also listen to Mindy Pelz and Karen Martel’s interview and Karen’s other podcasts. They address factors necessary for hormonal balance. Nutrition, stress, sleep, toxic load, etc. Your receptor sites could be causing hormones to not be utilized by the body.
