Factorio Speedrun ("default settings", aggressive aliens, random map-seed, v1.1.57) in 2:22:43 by me, AntiElitz. Please leave a like if you enjoy the run. This was the world record as of 03-APR-2022.
RULES:
➤ The game is won by launching a rocket.
➤ Only 1 player is allowed.
➤ The "Default" preset must be used in the map generator settings. Choosing a set "Map seed" is forbidden.
➤ Importing blueprints is NOT allowed. However, you may use blueprints created during the run.
FAQ:
➤ Why is this so much worse than the sub 2 hours runs?
This is a different category. The rules only allow default map generation presets, a random seed and aggressive aliens.
➤ Why do you start a multiplayer game, although you play alone?
The Game won't pause when you open the research tab in MP
➤ Why aren't you attacked by enemies?
I am. I just choose a map with a lot of trees to delay the first attacks. Enemy waves are starting to come in later in the run.
➤ What software do you use?
I use "OBS Studio" for recording and "LiveSplit" for the timer.
➤ What mapstring do you use?
None. It's a random map.
➤ Where are you from?
Germany
➤ Why does the ingame time differ so much from the realtime?
Some time ist lost due to lag and the timer starts when looking at the preview already.
➤ Why don't you take the ingame time than?
There are a lot of ways to abuse ingame time measurements.

I used to watch you in the days of 0.12 - I'd forgotten how fast you are. Didn't understand all the fine tuning at the end there, but the beginning was awesomely quick. Congrats, you should be holding onto this record for a while.

At 51:00 I noticed you made 29 assemblers for red circuits. Is there any reason behind that specific number? Edit: nevermind, you changed 5 in the middle to assemble modules.

Because he can already check whether the map is good enough and plan where to build his base. Alternatively, he could start maps without looking at them before, but this would make rerolling more frustrating.

I didn't watch the whole thing. How long did it take before first attack? Because the size of his factory is massive. I found first attack at something like 1:45. I cannot imagine he was so lucky with choice of the map that the cloud didn't reach any of the bugs earlier than that.

i just beat this game for the first time struggling to defend my factory and in constant lack of resources due to how bad i was playing. i spent 40 hours and i felt like giving up lots of times, but finally i managed to launch my first rocket. now im really tired of this game but one day I'll come back and build a much better factory

If you're playing Factorio normally, it's a good idea to prioritize military and making a complete perimeter all the way around your base and resource outposts. Gun turrets work until laser turrets are avaliable. Once you have a laser perimeter and plenty of excess power (I like to go mass solar + accumulator for renewable energy and less pollution), you're pretty much safe. The game gets more fun and less stressful once you've secured your perimeter.

@@cesiodomeia-ponte444he explained in another comment, but he got lucky and rolled a map with far away biters (rare but possible with default settings), and he also picked a map with lots of trees (which absorb pollution). He gets attacked 1 hour in and you can see the frequency increase after that. Also one thing that I've noticed (not sure if you've tried this yourself already) is that if you avoid putting down a radar early, your pollution is a lot lower as they demand a lot of early power. Having said that, the sheer volume of burner miners this guy puts down far outstrips that (I mean, one extra burner miner is like two radars...)

Did you increase your starting area? If I try to do this, I always get attacked within 15minutes by a enormous group of biters.

No, its' default setting. I just rolled a map that doesn't have any close biters, they are rare.

picky map rerolling with little biters and a lot of trees that absorb pollution. I do get attacked though, starting like 1h in.

Why is there such a time discrepancy between any% and default settings? I'd think that random seed and biters shouldn't increase the time by an hour.

Awesome record, amazing watching you and Smurfen! I don't.. Get one thing, someone speedrunning this but not streaming will be at disadvantage, no? If runner gets help from Stream or friends during the run, that's.. at least a advantage? (No, I don't speedrun but it's just something that I keep thinking about though I'm sure it's been discussed and explained somewhere else!)

That is indeed something we discuss about. It surely can be an advantage, yeah. But the livestream and chat interactions is what brought Factorio speedruns where they are now. For example: If i didn't stream, Nefrums would never have started speedrunning. In the end you have to balance out the benefit and fun for the community with the advantages coming from it. Personally I don't think the advantage is too very significant as I notice I usually run better times in practice when I play offline. Chat is a distraction at the same time as it can be helpful.

to dump them into making the last bit of purple science. At that point he is burning everything to launch one rocket which is the point of the speed run. It doesn't matter what happens after.

This is a default map with biter activated. They just start to attack very late as i chose a map with a lot of trees that absorb pollution early on. There are attacks starting from 1h in.

I saw at twich a game where a player used a two way stacker. A stacker accessible by trains from both sides. Anyone having a BP or picture how to set this up, especially the signaling please.

_Choosing_ the map is only half the issue. Sure, you could reroll the map until you got one of those insanely good configs used in any% (yet still with biters, cliffs, and default resource quantities), but it would take hours. Ignoring that would skew the "default settings" results a lot. But you could also pick a map that's very good (let's say top 5%, not top .01% like the typical any% map) and spend a few minutes plannng your run -- or even spend a few hours planning, then running the same seed on another PC, before attacking the same map "for real." That alone would be a huge change. I'd like a new speedrun type of that kind: default settings, random map, any amount of pre-planning allowed, or maybe even any map used for a WR in the DS category. Those -- I'd call them "seedruns" -- could achieve times halfway between true DS and full-on any%. But allowing that for true DS is completely out of the question.

Before RED SCIENCE I think you are overmining copper ore, and overproducing copper plates and wire. Allocate a few drills, furnaces and assemblers to iron and cog production for faster RED SCIENCE.

@@AntiElitz you literally cover the settings with your face cam in the beginning, I have played hundreds of default maps on factorio and never once been able to cause that level of pollution without biters showing up
