As many here said, it totally defeats the main purpose of these houses, and one of their stated purposes: Affordability. A tiny home like this could be built for much less, from scratch. From what I understand they can be made around $30k to $60k. I've seen nice ones for $40k. Knowing that, the price should go DOWN from there, not UP, when put on an assembly line. So why are they getting more expensive? Maybe because they fold? Sure they fold, so the shipping is easier and cheaper... but the solution is the same as it has always been: Build it on site, by owner, or contractor. You can easily ship the materials just about anywhere. I'm no businessman, no contractor (although I've done my share of carpentry and renovations), but looking at this whole concept, and the descriptions, and price, I picture them disappearing in short order.

I'd be worried using high temperatures on the right hand burners in case the fridge (probably cased in plastic) starts to melt. Not to mention what an elbow-bumping, claustrophobic experience it would be having it there. There's a lot of room for improvements here. I for one would never be happy with sliding doors, they get noisy and clunky over time and they don't separate the sounds and smells as well between rooms - how many of us want anyone else in the home hearing and smelling us go to the bathroom?

a lots of places on earth people who can't afford to have a so call basic house. the shelter they live in is less than a shoe box.

one thing i would change or add is a small pull out spice cabinet between the fridge and stove. I don't like the two of them being side by side.

I agree that the space is quite single-purposed for what could be a lot more innovative in the use of precious space. It’s a box, conforming to what financial institutions like in a finance-friendly “home.” But for those who want the combo of finance ready, enough space to work logistically and ready to live in quickly, it works. I could easily see developments of these, lot sizes of 30x50 or less, central amenity space. It’s coming.

I like your idea, and I would further suggest considering the option of a liftable bed that always stays horizontal. An electric winching system would not be technically difficult or expensive, plus it could have a manual backup crank for a loss of power situation. It could also be locked into a high position that would still allow someone to sleep in it (like a bunk bed) while an air mattress was providing a place under it for a guest to sleep. Whether the bed folds up or lifts, having the bed "gone" during the day is a huge asset to mentally enjoying what little space is available. Plus I would add a large covered deck to make use of the outdoors when the weather is nice.

@@bevfrench3496 I recently saw a sliding door kit used with DIY racks added to do just this. I loved it as soon as I saw it. Very narrow and slid away easily. Not expensive to do.

And slide the closet back and forth between the couch and the bed, to enlarge the living space at daytime.

what potential would that be? how is this any better than a pre-manufactured home or a trailer? you do realize that most costs come from buying land, connecting electricity and plumbing. get a trailer, it would probably be cheaper than this.

Yes, rules & regs for tiny homes are very strict & limiting as to where you can have them, sadly. Any new housing being built is way out of the price range of the average income earner & there is extremely limited low-income housing for those on disability or in other situations. I have a friend who lives on $763/mo. She has lived in her millionaire brother's rental house for 12 yrs. paying him $500/mo & it's not in great shape. He is selling the place & wants her out. We have looked for over a year in this crazy market & economy, & a small hole in the wall slumlord rental starts at $600/mo plus the application fees, 1st month's rent etc. And those rentals are so abysmal you wouldn't want your pets to live in it. The application fees are near impossible for those living in poverty to afford, so I can see why there is so much homelessness. This is a problem our gov't fails to recognize or do anything about except turn a blind eye. If I had the money, I'd buy my friend a home & a car. She drives a 24 yr. old car & just prays it holds out & now O'Bidden is pushing electric cars on everyone & few if any can afford them. My car is 12 yrs.old & has been paid for, for years. My condo is paid off. I am retired & don't plan on buying a new car anytime soon & my condo needs a lot of work done to it. Interest rates are outrageous. I refuse to pay them. I cared for my mom in a nursing home these last 5 yrs after her stroke. She died in Feb. 22. So much of my life was on hold, to say nothing of what Covid did. I feel for those living in poverty. There is no way out, especially if they have debilitating health or mental illness. My friend now has breast cancer & is trying to find a place & move. It is exhausting. She has a very part-time job to try & make ends meet. There is so much red tape & excessive waits to get help. Her gov't rental assistance is limited to $200, yet illegal immigrants get free top of the line housing, medical care, phones etc. And most of them are dressed nicely when they arrive. This country has gone mad! This is unsustainable.

Oh yes, everybody's dream to have a box like this 100 km from downtown (because everywhere else land is too expensive for them). For big cities the solution is to build up, not out. The further out you go, the longer your commute will be, the more time you'll lose in your life, the less you will see your kids growing up, and it adds to stress too...

There are a few Canadian companies doing this already. The issue really is to find the land to purchase a lot for your home.

This is a game changing technology. That means it probably will violate some Canadian building code. The whole concept of tiny houses doesn't fit the typical municipal plan. In Canada we find ways of killing progress.

@@fightingforthetruth4817 Technically, that's the base price they start but that doesn't include all the other costs for delivery (more than $3-$10 per mile from their Las Vegas factory), site prep, connecting utilities, land, permits and inspections, insurance, property taxes, and maintenance, set up of the Boxabl when it's delivered (has to be someone certified and qualified to do it), etc. So it's something you should look into and add up all the costs before assuming what it will cost you, as depending on location, etc. it can cost quite a bit more for some people than others. Especially, if you want a customized model and go bigger/multiple units.

Land is a huge factor.

Unfortunately, a challenge for these folks will be battling local government regulations. In many large cities there's a vested interest in keeping a certain number of people homeless so politically connected people can have very lucrative contracts providing " services" to the homeless. Do you actually think you could put one of these in San Francisco?

Politics won't allow homeless to become home owners, they got all kinds of schemes and excuses to keep them poor and helpless. Same goes for non-criminal drug addicts, sex workers, etc. And even if there's a will to house them they'd buy uninsulated shipping containers for a fraction of a Boxable and stick em in there, only to point at it as a disaster project when it inevitably goes to shit.

The homeless can’t afford these. If they could afford an efficiency apartment, they wouldn’t be homeless. How is a homeless person, many of whom have mental health problems and don’t have a job, going to PAY for one of these. Homelessness is not a simple problem.

Same thing has been done for centuries. Locally, one bedroom homes were built around 1910. Many have had add on rooms over time.

But boxabl is a company valued at 3billion dollars, and the boxabl's themselves range from 54,000-99,000 according to uncle google. @@itsmxt Yes, but the problem is that's only the cost of the structure they build and doesn't include all the other costs from deliver to setup, which can be up to more than the cost of the structure itself... However, it's also not something they can just tell you because that depends very much on location, the specific product or products being ordered, what local requirements need to be met for permits, inspections, etc. cost of the land it's being put on, insurance, whether you have a qualified local contractor you can hire to set it up once delivered or need to get someone to travel to your location, utilities, maintenance, etc. So, it's something that has to be researched for the location and your specific situation and the price they give you is just the starting point...

Then you might as well just buy a normal house. These things will be around 100-150k each module - so your looking at 3-450k for three not including land prices which is the real expensive part.

And they need the blinds between glass. Yes sunlight is grand, but options for privacy and darkness for sleep and shift workers.
