Nice video guys. I have been shooting a Kicks High flyer Extended choke in my Benelli for 20 years and have always loved it. Nice to see it on paper.

Anyone looking for a reasonably priced choke tube, the kicks high flyer is it!!! I shoot a Benelli Super Vinci with federal speed shok ammo and love the combo. I have both kicks modified and full tubes depending on my spot I'm hunting, both hold an awesome pattern and worth the money, nice review for a browning guys👍

Love kicks chokes need to go down (only an hour and a half away) to go pattern with them and get some chokes for my A5.

Yep it all depends on what range you are targeting to shoot or at least max range. Several comments mentioned chokes that are ported. remember they are not kind to ears nearby ! If you are trying to geta decent pattern at 40 yds you don't need a ported choke but they will generally give more even tighter patterns because of the physics involved.

I've heard hevi metal and carlsons chokes work well in benellis but you have a browning so its different, maybe a kicks is better. Just what I've heard. I still have to pattern my benelli with the carlsons to see if that's true.

Actually, I realize it’s a bit confusing, but for the Kick’s High Flyer, the true Mid-Range/Modified choke (20 -50yd) is their Full version, not Modified. If you know how to measure a choke, you will easily see that the Full measures a true Modified or .720 (.020 under bore). Better yet, call Kick’s and they will validate. They will also exchange the one you have. I have an A-5 as well.

Hevi-Metal is changing their formula. Would be great to see a comparison between old Hevi-Metal and new Hevi-Metal. They claim the new load gives longer range vs the old. Great job!!

Hows modified for steel. I was told the best all rounder is a modified ported for ducks within 40yrds. I like kicks brand.

This is my input and my own opinions rifle barrels have crowns check your chokes because what I found out about mine is that there is metal catching my fingers on the opening

its only the browing DS chokes that have this problem with constrictions being to open for marked choke designation

At first I had thought you were doing an apple to oranges test as chokes are listed as "IC, Mod., Etc" as to how the work with lead. But Kicks is naming them how they preform with steel. Looking up the constriction measuments shows this. Browning Invector plus IC measured .732" and so does the High Flyer mod. Just be aware that the High Flyer with lead/bismuth would give an IC pattern.

I have been shooting Kicks high flyers for years, have them on my benelli's M2 and SBEII and have had great success using them best choke out there for the money . I use mostly Winchester Super X shells , But will shoot others if I can get a better deal on case prices, Kent Fast steel, Federal as I shoot 4 to 5 cases a year of # BB , and #2's Great review.

I have used so many chokes out of so many diffrient guns and I finally made a Choice with using a winchester SXP with a wicked Wing long range choke tube best setup I have ever had never have cripples anymore and I'm very pleased with the range I can shoot now cause my closet ducks are maybe 20-25 and my far shots are 35-45 ish but I wont shoot past that.

I shoot a kicks hi flyer full out of a nova.. really pleased with it, definitely would recommend a kicks to someone looking for an aftermarket choke.

I bought the Hevi Metal chokes for my M2. I usually shoot the old Hevi Metal. Don’t like the new stuff loaded with bismuth. Really didn’t see an advantage with the aftermarket chokes. And just made the barrel longer and a bit louder. Found out if I just choke down with my factory choke 2 notch it gets real tight. I know Benelli says not to shoot steel out of these but oh well. I’ve hunted waterfowl for over 40 years now. I have friends and guests come out to my goose pit with their new guns special chokes and shells and can hit anything. My advice is spend some of that $ at a skeet range and learn how to lead your target.

You should definitely try out JEBS choke tubes. Great reviews about the chokes on their website.

I had a discussion with Randy Waksman about steel vs. lead. He told me that the material being shot does NOT change the pattern density. He has a video that shows pattern density for every shot and choke. I commented it he would do it with steel shot and that when he told me it doesn’t matter.

I have the kicks modified shooting out of my winchester sx4 and im having a hard time finding a shell that patterns well enough out of it. Last year I used the factory choke and shot hevi steel and it was good, tried with the kicks, doesn't pattern well at all. Best shell I found so far to pattern with the kicks is field and stream brand. Only problem with that is I cant buy it in bulk

Now compare the kicks to your full (steel) choke. If it’s similar at the same distance it’s a waste of money. If it’s still better than maybe it’s not a waste.

Titus- after having your a-5 for awhile now, is the kicks choke worth it over the stock invector DS factory chokes?

And my Karlsson mid range pattern is well with just about everything except Remington 1700 foot and the new kent Fast steel 2.0. Seems like the faster the foot per second the pattern goes out the window. But with my Carlson I can shoot just about anything in the patterns well BB 2---4 . Just about any brand of shells I'm getting a good pattern from 40 yards are in except kent isn't true not be very good the 2.0 I like the older better pattern a lot better anyway if you could do a video , That would be a awesome test.

Have you done this test with steel loads? Im just curious. I am having trouble finding Hevi loads right now. I shoot a Beretta A300 and have been eyeing the Kicks High Flyer. Good luck this year and thanks for the videos.

I think you need to check the actual constriction of these chokes. My factory Invector Plus Mod choke is .720, my Carlson’s Mid Range steel choke (Mod) is .720 and my Carlson’s sporting clays Mod choke is .720. All three of these will send steel the same way even though one is a “Steel Mod” and the other two are designed for lead. If Kicks is calling it a modified choke then I’m assuming it’s a .720 and you should be comparing it to your factory Modified choke. Just my opinion, could be wrong.

Would you recommend the high flyer/hevi metal over you factory mod choke with the dry locks?

Did you notice a difference in the recoil ? How far was that test ?

go to home depot and buy a roll of red rosin paper you"ll have enough targets to pattern all you want for a season 3'x167' for 13 bucks and thanks for saving me the trouble of testing chokes and loads

I can't believe you were surprised at the results??? I told you it was a very good probability, you were handicapping yourself with a flush choke, from the first test you did. All those boxes you shot will shoot differently out of this new choke. And not necessarily better. It's not always the case, but normally a longer choke with more time/distance to compress the shot, will give a better pattern in the majority of cases. You were quite happy with the way your factory choke was shooting, and that's what is important. But... I will reiterate here, and you did somewhat cover it. You don't really know until you have shot a few patterns. It's not like a rifle. I absolutely guarantee, if you did that same test again your results/patterns would be different with both chokes. But your percentages will probably be relatively the same. This comes from hundreds of patterns with dozens of chokes, scanned and analyzed by a computer program, specifically designed for that purpose. If I was trying to narrow down a bunch of shell/choke combo's, I would at least shoot 3 shots with each (from a rest), and divide the circle into quarters to see if they tended to shoot consistently heavy in one half or quarter. If it did (and you're sticking with the same shells most times), you could adjust your stock to take that into account. The funny thing to me was that you would pay $30 for a box of shells, which needed to be replaced, but wouldn't spend $50 on a choke you would have the rest of your life, and likely pay for itself many times over, with less shooting and more birds on the deck. 15 inches off center. You aim at center. Your barrel is off or your choke is untrue or you're jerking the trigger

I have Kicks High Flyer and Carlsons Creamanator both mod and full and they pattern best with Field and Stream loads not just one but all so I have to suck up my pride and buy at dicks to do my best to insure a humane kill

you just compared apples to oranges those chokes dont have the same constriction inside the kicks is a true modified with lead choke your browning is not even close to modified the choke marked lead modified that comes with the gun isnt even a modified the browning chokes are way more open then marked on choke dial calibers dont lie get carlsons factory replacement chokes there the right constriction there mod is a real mod ect. only browning factory choke thats the right constriction for it markings is the full choke

Kicks high flyer shoots well with federal blue box and Kent's as well however I shoot the full. I haven't really shot the heavy metal much however i got some bb and 4 shot this year I will try. I'm a bird claimer as well at least all my family says so lol. I have become a better shot now and they can't believe it lol.

Why do you call all shot sizes BB. I've been reloading and patterning shotguns since January of 1976 a d the first thing that comes to mind when a KZfaqr calls shotgun pellets BBs is that at the very least they don't no much about shotguns or shot gun shells. Shotgun projectiles are called pellets not BBs. All BBs no matter what they are made of are .177 diameter. If they are not .177 diameter then theyare not BBs. Seeing people that don't even know what the proper names are for all their equipment and components are just kills any confidence that they may have some idea what they are talking about. I promise you I'm not the only one that feels that way. I'm sure that many of the most knowledgeable people will very quickly change channels when they hear someone talk like they have the experience of a six year old. Anyone who has any idea what they are doing would say there are 129 pellets of number four shot in this thirty inch circle. I know everyone is supposed to say how well informed they are after this video but I can't watch a video with such massacred language.
