There are sadly many stars who perished in horrific airplane crashes. Audie Murphy and Vic Morrow both died in that manner. Then you have folks such as Dean Martin and Jayne Mansfield, who passed away after getting into car accidents. But how many actors can you name that were killed in fires?
The majority of the time, it's not even the fire itself that brings about a victim's death. It's the smoke. Smoke inhalation can have disastrous effects on the human body, and most of the time, when people are killed in a tragedy such as a house fire or vehicular fire, they lose consciousness long before the flames can consume them.
In this video, we'll be taking a closer look at the lives and deaths of 8 Hollywood stars who met their ends in fires. Of course, we should take a moment to reflect on how their deaths impacted their friends and family. Never should we find ourselves entertained by the suffering of another person.

Dean Martin did not pass away following a car accident.

Correct. Martin died of respiratory failure at age 78. His son, Dean Martin, Jr., died in a plane crash. Maybe he meant Billy Martin, the famed manager that died in a car wreck.

Jack Cassidy was a magician in the Columbo episode "Now You See Him" about 10 months before. In that show, he was handling fire and seemed to burn his hands. Really spooky.

I lost a cousin because she gave a New Year's Eve party for friends and one dropped a smoldering cigarette that fell between the cracks of a vinyl couch. A few hours later it burst into flames and the house caught on fire. It was in 1977-78 and the poor child was only 16. My aunt and uncle never recovered from their loss. I am very sorry about your father.

Rob- self infilted- My Dad use too smoke in bed too. Both my parents were careless with both tobbacco smokeing and leaveing matches around which resulted in a hay barn fire when ahh was 9 years old.''

I believe it was his son who was involved in some type of aircraft accident if memory serves me correctly? He only appeared on THE PARTRIDGE FAMILY in the original pilot in scenes that were never broadcast. From what I read, part of why these scenes were cut were because his character, a love interest for then-named "Connie" Partridge, mentioned her by name before Shirley Jones decided to use her own first name for her character.

You didn’t mention comedian Joan Davis daughter Beverly and Joan Davis mother and grandson who all perished in a house fire in 1964. Beverly was also a comedic actress like her mother Joan who died suddenly in 1960 of a heart attack. Joan Davis was best known for her comedy sitcom “ I married Joan in the early 50’s

I was wondering why Linda Darnell died so young.I first saw her while channel surfing.She was in a 1950 movie called' No way out'.She was an attractive woman.I thought maybe it was suicide or a tragic crash. Teresa Graves was a sad surprise. She was another very attractive lady. I remember the tragic fire news that claimed Butterfly Mc Queen. May they all rest in peace.

Early cowboy star “Buck Jones” in films died in a disastrous night club fire in the forties. The article claimed he didn’t want to go there that night. The fire killed many many nightclub patrons. It was one of the worst fires in US history. I think it was in Massachusetts.

@@JohnLee-pt5jz I think it was even sadder that she was typecast simply because she was black, just as it was with a lot of actors of color in her day. That was especially so with her role as Prissy the maid in "Gone With The Wind." (1939) In that film, Prissy was little more than a simpleton who was dumb enough to tell Scarlett O'Hara (played by Vivian Leigh) that she knew how to help pregnant women to deliver their newborns when, in fact, she didn't, as revealed when she spoke her most famous movie line. Knowing that Scarlett's Cousin Melanie Hamilton (played by Olivia De'Haviland) is about to give birth, Prissy, in a state of hysterical panic, suddenly blurts out "AH DON' KNOW NUTTIN' 'BOUT BIRTHIN' BABIES!" I never knew that Miss McQueen wasn't allowed to attend the premiere of "Gone With The Wind" because it was being shown in a "Whites Only" theater. I have no doubt that none of the other black actors from the movie were permitted to see it either, including Hattie McDaniel, who played Scarlett's head housemaid, Mammy, for which she won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. It was the very first time that any black person had ever won such an award, but it didn't do her much good since, like Butterfly McQueen, she was typecast, often playing household servants (which was what most white people in those days thought blacks were only good for anyway), and, despite her fame, she was still discriminated against by a segregated society. Yes, it was sad. 😢😰😓

I grew up in Glenview I'll and remember that fire like it was yesterday. The fire was in a townhouse area called Carriage Hill. What a sad day in Glenview .

The actress Ruth Attaway, who played the housekeeper Louise opposite Peter Sellers in Being There and also the mayor's nurse in the original Taking of Pelham 123, was killed in a house fire at age 77 as well. She maybe wasn't a big celebrity, but she stole every character she ever played. :)

I found out perhaps a year ago about tragic death of movie actress Ms. Linda Darnell in house fire. She was a beauty with dark sultry looks of Puertorican women. Ms. Darnell was among my favorite movie actresses of 40's. I thought she was stunning with those sensuous lips, raven hair and tawny complexion. I understand she survived for several hours but passed from fire injuries sustained. Her daughter was interviewed on daytime talk show and claimed she could not have survived due to the extent of her burns. R.I.P.

I still to this day remember what it looked like. To go through something like this is very scary 😨 for anyone. Back in the early 60's another family in another town further away from us the parents lost their 8 or 9 kids in a fire 🔥as well, it was during the the summer 😳😢😕😐💔. I sure really truly honestly do feel sympathy for them 😢back then . Pretty please lord watch over them all,protect them 🙏😭😫😩😔😢.

Jack Cassidy played on an episode of “Bewitched” called Chance on love, where he was going out with Serena and She switched places with Samantha, he couldn’t tell the difference to the very end, very funny episode, R.I.P. Jack.

They are correct! James Dean died in the car wreck, Vic Morrow and one childplaying parts in a movie he was making were beheaded by the helicopter as came down in a crash. The other was killed by it's skid while making a Twilight Zone movie in 1982.

I didn't know about any of them dieing in a fire. Smoking and space heaters - not good and dangerous. See Smoking can kill in other ways besides cancer. I don't know Teresa Graves, Linda Darnell, or Robert O'Connor. At first, Teresa looked like Loretta Young, when I first saw her and before you said her name. It is a shame that smoking took their lives. As you stated, has to be a horrible way to perish, or something like that. Thanks for sharing.

It's a shame that things happen the way they do. I remember a fire 🔥😫😩back in 1969 when I was younger. I was living with my grandma 👵, uncle 😢😔😪. It was in January of that year. All of us made it out safely. Believe it or not the electric company set on fire 🔥😬🤔😳😐. Meaning that the people who were supposed to check the wiring didn't. It took a very long time to get the house 🏠back the way it was.
