Elvis country is an amazing country/rock/blues mixed album. Sometimes people discuss what period of Elvis career was the best. I have listend to all his songs, concerts, outtakes and home recordings and after a long hard think I have come to the conclusion that Elvis made his best music in the years 1954-1977 😃

I think when he said he watched the mateing of the Dove 🕊 he wasn't referring to the Act per say, he was referring to how Birds fluff up their feathers and strut around and preen to attract their future mate, meaning their courtship. 😆❤

Great to see you having fun listening along Seph - excellent. This song was recorded by Elvis on 7 June 1970 in Nashville and was the third song recorded that evening. Elvis had originally attempted a more typically country version on 4 June, the first day of the recording sessions. Although three takes ensued, it was the first take that was chosen as the master with the third designated as the alternate. Post production took place on 30 June with brass and strings added before being released on the “Country” album. It would be the fourth track from side B, and this is another excellent performance, which is best enjoyed as a full version not the edited version from the original album

It's a fun song. This is not the released version which appeared on the LP. It's an alternate take, but I enjoyed it.

The reference to the mating of the doves in this song is not likely referring to the actual act, but rather the courtship and preening rituals of the doves, and based upon the context of the song, possibly to the fact that some dove species mate monogamously for life.

Lol, Seph! I know its an uncomfortable line. Lol. Ive sang this song at karaoke many times and it always struck me odd. Its a way old song and i think people back in those old fashioned days didnt have minds like we degenerates today. Lol. Being a bird watcher myself id say that lyric is to imply the way male birds primp for the female and the courtship dance that goes on. Ive never actually seen birds "doing it". She was friends with Carl Perkins and other male country music artists and they all said that Patsy would laugh at their dirty jokes and then tell even dirtier jokes to make them laugh. She was also a really generous person. Like Elvis she was big on charity. (She too grew up poor but in West Virginia). And fun fact: Patsy greatly admired Elvis. It's said that she was there in the audience of the Grand Ol' Opry during Elvis's one and only performance there. She called him- out of respect- "Big Hoss". She got to meet him in 1962 at the St. Jude's Children Hospital fundraiser in Memphis and they exchanged phone numbers. Unfortunately she passed away the following year. I have a soft spot for this song. It's an A or B for me. Written and performed by Bob Willis's band (sung by Tommy Duncan) in 1950. Country swing. Bob Willis was famous back in the day. Bob Willis and the Texas Playboys. Bob Willis was a character. Made me laugh every time I saw his band. He wrote some good stuff, but he was really silly and fun. When you have the time, you should really give a listen to some of the original artists, but you should watch Willis on film. He's so funny. Of course, Elvis cover is a step up. I can't find a filmed version of this song but check this one out (San Antonio Rose). 40 seconds in Tommy Duncan comes in. Seph: Western Swing by Bob Wills. CLASSIC!!!! Elvis and the entire band would have known these by heart, from growing up in the 1930s-40s, & touring Texas in the 50s. Bob Wills is REVERED in Texas. He ruled Country/Western music back then! In the 1970s Waylon Jennings had a big hit called “Bob Wills Is Still the King”. It’s a banger you should listen to!There is an old 1950s interview with Bob Wills, where he states that he: “didn’t understand all the ruckus over the new ‘rock & roll’ music. That’s what we’ve been playing around Texas since the 1930s”
