We're back, nerds! The journey of going through all the old school D&D games continues with Menzoberranzan! This is probably one of the more difficult ones for me, much like majority of the others. There were moments of intrigue, moments of confusion, but the most important thing is we had fun... sort of. I got a headache after playing this.

That's Icewind dale in the beginning. The dragon was icingdeath.

Nahhhh... that wasn't no dragon. Too many legs. Looks like a Behir to me. They're wyrmlike, with several pairs of legs, no wings, and dwell in cold environments.

I belive if you had a serial connection to a printer you could actually print the world map! That's so cool

It's insane to me that video games had printer functions built into them, but it is pretty convenient

There were only two alignments in old D&D. Chaotic (which means evil) and good. I've always to play this game but i can't real time combat in blobbers.

This one in particular was really forward thinking in a few ways. Really fleshed out the FPP/party based gameplay especially outside just dungeon crawling among other things. That prerendered creation and start menu was pre Myst, not the totally first or anything but def forward thinking, and one of the better applications if a little UX-unfriendly lol. But freely looking around in a FPS style way, obviously widely used later, Menzo was def first in going for it especially outside just the Ultima Underworld style dungeon crawling. TES and M&M would use versions of this type of thing too obv after the big jump from Menzo. I didnt even get to play it at the time but followed the older games and was so curious about it but by the time i had a PC i could play 3+ year old shareware on, I was on other things or couldnt get ahold of it at 8-11 years old haha

I was trying to say this game seemed like it was one of the first to have a full range of movement rather than moving like a grid, but I'm so dumb I ended up phrasing it something like it having 3D movement. That's why I said it reminded me of Wolfenstein 3D. Some really cool knowledge you brought up! I'm the same as you, I'm really curious about these older games but more in the way of 'knowing your roots/history' than anything else, but it's so hard to get into them now because they feel so outdated.
