This is Anisha, she has been learning to drive for just under a year and has had her fair share of instructors. She has her driving test coming up in under 3 weeks time. She is a very safe driver but fails to make progress above 30/40mph
Watch her mock test to see how she gets on!

I was always scared of going to fast, I think it was partly because I didn’t like going down gears when having to stop or prepare for a turn, after passing this had now changed and I get up to speed slot quicker, she’ll definitely pass as long as she keeps the speed up. You got this

I would have no issue with speed if I was doing an automatic license, but with gears... it's so distracting having to think about changing gears while also trying to pay attention to the road and your surroundings.

Same, even though I'm learning with manual I'm usually content to just stay on one gear, usually the third gear. My dad is always telling me "you should have changed that gear now", "the engine is straining, it's telling you to change gear", "you're fortunate this car has a change gear light, not all cars have that feature"😅 Like I know _when_ I'm supposed to change it, I just don't like having to do so many things at the same time, it makes me all nervous and sweaty. But I'll get there eventually, and you will too. There was a time I could barely even maneuver the car around an empty car park, now I'm on the roads no problem. Some of us just take a bit longer to learn than others, and it's perfectly ok.

To add to my reaction, because if I read it again it does not reflect what I was trying to say, Anischa is doing her best and she is very critical over herself and a careful driver. Interesting. I had a minor for slow driving in my test, but within weeks of passing I was up to speed and being held up by others! It was largely a confidence issue for me. I suspect it was exascerbated here by being unfamiliar with the car and the roads, so caution makes sense. It could also be that the gear ratios Aman's car may be quite different to what Anisha is used to. (My current car is comfortable in fifth at 30mph on a flat road, whilst my previous car would be in third, it takes time to adjust] London seems so confusing these days with 20, 30, 40, 50 , 60 and 70 mph zones, it must be so hard to keep track of and on this video I spotted some instances where it wasn't clear. I'm sure it'll come for Anisha, hopefully in time for the test!

In my opinion, I believe she drove well. She has good understanding of her mirror checks and knows how to keep herself, well, her safety around others, safe. Her speed was the only major issue, which is quite impressive when you think about it. She didn't move off unsafely, she observed junctions really well. She just needs the keep speeding up and practice on more roads with higher speeds.

Hi! I'm from the Netherlands I'm following your channel for quite a while now. I've noticed some differences with English vs the Netherlands which I'm curious about: 1) In the Netherlands we can NEVER drive on a bus lane, only a taxi (with permit) or a bus can. 2) In terms of speed, we are being taught that it's recommended to always drive the maximum allowed speed limit with a margin of 4-5 km per hour extra. So if the limit is 50, you are allowed to drive 54-55 at max, because dashboards aren't always that accurate in measuring speed, so police will allow a margin of 4-5 km per hour in general. 3) We are being taught to look BEFORE signalling (3-mirror check: rear view, outside, over the shoulder), once it's safe and you are able to go, you turn on the signal, then you look again (3-mirror check) and then you go. This goes as well when leaving from a parked position or doing any kind of manoeuvre. Could you confirm if this is the same in England? Keep up with the content! Very enjoyable! Cheers!
@jemmac4540
@jemmac4540 2 жыл бұрын
Hello, I live in London and I’m learning to drive :) 1) In England we can drive in the bus lane however there are specific times in which we can do this and we have to abide by those times. You don’t have do you have a permit or anything 2) generally you’re meant to drive under the speed limit or at the speed limit however if you go one or 2 mph above the speed limit then it’s allowed as long as you realise and slow down 3) With the signalling is it exactly the same. We check all three mirrors before signalling and we check all mirrors after signalling as well

The acceleration was too slow as well. I am surprised she has been driving like that for a year, including way below the speed limit. You should be driving near speed limit and accelerating much faster after like 6-10 hours of driving lessons. Also resting foot on the clutch ain’t a good idea. The instructor she was with must have not tried to make her change for a year it seems. She does have potential to pass though. The easy part is what she is struggling with and I think it is more the mentality that is the problem.

Driving too slowly maybe a driving fail, but is it fair? After all, near where I live is a speed light that shows my speed and when I'm way below average speed, like if there's a car parked and I have to slow down or there's a cyclist and the speed camera shows my speed 10mph, when it's a 40 limit, it says thank you and shows a smile! In my country being slow never gets me a fail on a test but it is considered a fault... I relate so much to this, always driving really slow etc 40kmh on a 70kmh road (50 is an ok speed but not less than that for learner drivers here) and the reason is because I felt more in control, so my instructor seeing this had to keep reminding me that "slow doesn't mean safe!", being too slow makes me an obstruction at best and in the worst case, a hazard 🥲 eventually I had to build some confidence to get up to speed and I'm working on it continuously, gradually getting more comfortable with driving close to the speed limit

Surely being slow should get you fail, purely because if you drive slow in the test you haven't demonstrated ability to drive safely at speed. You might drive slowly in the test to make it easier, then drive fast the next day and have poor hazard perception, lane control etc etc. If you drive slow in the test you should only be allowed to drive slow on that licence.

This brings some sad memories, I also failed my first driving test for driving too slow. I live in a relatively big city, and here it is (or it was back then, I'm old) very rare to drive on the highway during the test, so almost all my driving lessons where 100% on city streets. And the zone where I took my test (here you can't choose, it can be anywhere in the city, and they don't tell you until the day before or a couple of days maybe) was particularly slow compared to other places I had been practicing, with an unusual amount of pedestrian crossings, 20 or 30 km/h signs, stop signs, etc., so I was extremely concentrated on going slowly. When the examiner told me to take the highway, I was on one hand shocked that it was happening (my instructor had advised me that it as a possibility though, but I had already forgotten it), and on the other hand I was still concentrated on driving slowly, so I was doing under 60 km/h on a 120 km/h road, which was a serious mistake, as you are not allowed to drive, as a general rule, below half the speed limit of the road. The examiner even asked me "how fast are you going?" and I was completely oblivious and replied "50 something", because I had not realized my mistake yet.

@ClearviewDriving
@ClearviewDriving 2 жыл бұрын
The biting point is lower in newer cars Most new cars also have a hill assist or hold So when you release the brake it holds until you’re at or above the biting point Just get used to where the biting point it and move up £1 thickness to move off or down by £1 thickness to go a little slower It’s honestly very easy when you get the hang of it Practice on a quiet road with no cars around and try the go slow stop technique I’ve talked about this in my clutch control video from last year. Hope this helps :) congrats on the new car 😊

This is exactly why it's not a good idea to learn in a car with an electric handbrake and hill assist. You get into a normal car.. Probably older due to cost etc and struggle with real life driving-hill starts - clutch control - even stopping at a give way is completely different. That car, a Mercedes is the worst car to learn to drive in.. Also hill assist in a new car can be a hinderence if you don't fully understand how it works

It is okay to rest the foot on the clutch as long as you don't apply downward pressure to the clutch. In every car there is a side play on the clutch. I have been driving for 27 years. The clutch never wears off, when we rest our foot on the clutch pedal, it wears down only when we apply downward pressure to the clutch, which means the vehicle is running on biting point or half clutch. When we are just resting our foot, it does not wear down the clutch plate.

Hi Aman, while on the carriage way, let's say the limit is 50mph.. what speed should we slow down to when there's a turning ahead ? I always always slowly hit the brake when there's a turning but I see many drivers maintain the same speed and overtake me easily lol..

@glennquagmire3583
@glennquagmire3583 Жыл бұрын
Roads that are 50 mph don't really have a turning, unless it's at traffic lights, going into a country lane, etc. You just need to slow down at the right time and keep well to the left if you are turning left. You should never break on high speeds unless there's an incident/traffic.

Hey signal if you think your signal will help anyone So if there’s parked cars or your hidden you can signal, or even if there’s junctions close by If it a completely empty road you can just move off without You wouldn’t get marked down even if you did signal briefly to move off Good luck with your test

_tHe SpEeD LiMiT iSnT a TArGeT_ etc. There was a road near me which was NSL (60mph) yet total cretins were puttering along at 35-40mph, even brake checking anyone trying to go quicker. What happened? People did dangerous overtakes out of frustration and there were multiple hideous and often fatal accidents. The whole road was re-classed at 50mph and now everyone does 50mph. It's a happy medium and the accident rate has gone over a cliff, just three in 2021 and none of them fatal.

Great video, you know the point at 8.04 when driving around the lorry, you mentioned about indicating, would you do this for cars to? I’m confused as my sons dad who has been driving with me suggested I indicated, but my driving instructor told me not to, he said it could confuse drivers if there is a right bend or drive? Legit advice would be appreciated as I want to be a safe driver and do what is correct, please xx

With regards to the signal it depends how much space there is to go around, in this case we were completely coming out of our lane and onto the hatched marking so the signal is useful for oncoming traffic as they may also try to drive in that section if they are making a right turn So it’s helpful for them. If you’re not fully coming out of your lane or no one’s about, you can do this without a signal Hope this helps

I wonder what a progress appropriate speed would be on the unlimited parts of the German Autobahn? Besides that, much of Europe has significantly different speed limits for (large) trucks and passenger cars on motorways, with a difference of 40 km/h being quite common (eg, 80/120 km/h or 90/130 km/h). Would sticking to the truck speed limit there be a progress appropriate speed?

My father (rest his soul) would have gotten a heartattack if he saw me resting my foot on the clutch that long as we saw here, needless to say he wasnt a driving instructor but he knew what it cost to replace a clutch, a clutch will not last long if you keep resting your foot on it, it might break after one drive actually if you ride the clutch enough, I'm grateful that my dad was that zealous about the clutch though it has stuck with me my entire life, I owe him much, I have never broken a single clutch :) edit same goes with resting on gear shifter, thats also wearing the gear down, even a light press on the handle gradually wears it down, so when shifting just barely touch the handle then let go as fast as possible :) thats one the lessons I learned early on from my dad :)

I'm glad you did this, it's really annoying - and potentially dangerous - when people trundle along at 40 or less in clear conditions on a 60mph road - I'm not counting variable speed limits or turning or stopping of course. Especially when it's on a single-lane road with bends so overtaking is often unsafe.
