Thanks to all that followed along and left comments,, this is the last video (#21) of this 1922? Fairbanks-Morse with dishpan flywheels,, get 'er running series, be sure to watch the other 20 videos to see how I got to this point,,, it's on a cart and running good,, starts easy,, thanks, shopdogsam

Great work there man, i have a few Fairbanks Morse engines and is great to see someone to follow there knowledge on such good engines, keep it coming there Sam.

Great to see the restoration from start to finish, a job well done. You should do a video on the buzz coil ignition, would be very interesting as i never had that system on an engine. Kindest regards from the Emerald Isle.

With advice from your videos I was able to get my running. This is my first Hit Miss. Fairbanks Morse Z Hit and Miss engine

Regarding the ignition on this, how did you set the break? I see it secures somehow to the governor assembly but do you have some kind of contacts or something?

What were these engines originally used on?

Everything! In 1919 nothing had its own electric motors. A couple farm kids would have pulled this to the well pump and hooked up a belt. Then they'd run it over to the corn sheller and hook up a belt. Then they'd run it off to the house for Ma and hook it up to the washing mashing with a belt. It would have run everything that we take for granted.

did you use electrical solder? electrical solder has very little structural strength. you should check what solder you used.

,,,, are you sure?,,,,,, solder doesn't care where it's used, it's the alloy content, ie; 50/50, 40/60 and so on that gives it strenght,,,, it's the flux that makes it (electrical) grade, in the case of electric you would use rosin, which does not make it weaker, only non-corrosive,,, the solder I used was solid core with brushed on acid flux,, and no leaks before coating the inside with a liquid fuel tank liner,, all is well here on the east coast of Arkansas, shopdogsam
