To much buzzing in your skull to sleep?! Let's get Grimm! Join me for tonight's travails among the sun, moon, and even the stars! We follow one girl on her quest to find the seven ravens and restore them to their proper place in the world, a daunting task for which she feels inexplicably compelled to complete. This tale, the Brothers Grimms' "The Seven Ravens," is read in a soft voice and to some light and soft background music. I do hope you enjoy the this evening's short story!

@@abitlate It's funny, I was listening to this and thinking that the mid-story comments felt wrong. But, I like the comments on A Bit Frank, so I couldn't figure out why. Then I saw this post and figured it out: the confidence isn't there yet and you can hear the difference (or at least I can). So, please keep it up, keep the comments in there, but try to relax. Let the natural pause before and after each comment happen instead of rushing through them. And thanks for all you do (on both channels)!

As a kid I had an illustrated storybook, and this story was my favourite among the stories in it. Some details were different, like the mother was a widow and the girl was already around 8 when her brothers where cursed, and their mother (accidentally) cursed them because they were being mischievous. Her going out to find them was fully supported by her mother and not a secret and so on... When I saw this notification pop up I was so delighted. Beautiful video

this trope has been done to death: a couple desires a daughter but sacrifices their multiple sons in the process. With the sister being the one to fix it. I heard three versions of this asides this: the first was an English tale in which a queen gave her 11 sons up to a witch for a daughter. These boys were turned to swans and the sister had to sew them clothing made from reeds from a specific river for seven years without speaking a single word. When she was about to executed for something she didn't do, she finished all but the last shirt, which left the youngest brother with a wing for an arm. There's also an Arabian tale in which the sister nearly died twice after finding her brothers, and a Native American tale in which I forgot the details

This feels kind of the true story of Hansel and Grettle, almost identical, at least what I have read of, except Grettle was doing a deed.

There was a movie I used to watch as a kid on a video cassette just labeled “Eliza” I don’t think that was the name. Anyway, it comes across my mind every so often. I think it’s based on this. But the bro’s were swans and she had to sew them 7 sweaters but she was mute then a king comes across and decides to marry her. Then she gets accused of being a witch and is about to be get burned at stake still sewing. Anyway, If anyone knows the movie help! Lol it has to be from like 1990-1995

Ah, that could be an episode from the animated tv series "The Fairytaler". The show's episodes are based on H.C. Andersen's many fairy tales, and should be pretty easy to find here on KZfaq. But even if the movie you're talking about isn't the The Fairytaler episode, the movie is definitely based on H.C. Andersen's story "The Wild Swans". And the "Eliza" on your cassette must come from the mc's name, Elisa. It's one of my favorite fairy tales, and really memorable, so I understand why it would be etched in your memory! :)

When I was 9... I read the entire grim book...until my mom realized I had it and I never read the rest but I remember this one and I liked it so much.

Hm... I think I heard a story similar to this. But the version I heard was like... 12-14 sisters were turned into a kind of bird by their mother, who eventually gave birth to a son who did a similar journey (except he went to three different animal witches; one who can talk to the woodland creatures, one who spoke to fish and the last who spoke to birds). Hungarian Folktales I think told me.
