We're on the same wavelength for sure. I see what you mean. It's just wrong and icky (sometimes illegal) all the way around honestly. From my limited research (I could be wrong, so don't hold me to it), it is illegal to purchase and own falsified or fake IDs, certificates, registration paperwork, etc. in general. Now, does that mean it's illegal for us to purchase and own fake IDs for our Service Dogs?? Possibly. I think that's where most people are getting the term “illegal” from. It's definitely against the law for someone to deny access and *ask/require* for a Service Dog’s ID, certification, etc. as a condition of access. I just think that it's gross that people are scamming pet owners into thinking their dog (or cat, bunny, etc.) now has rights under the ADA that a legitimate Service Dog does. It's ALSO gross that people *knowingly purchase* fake IDs, certificates, etc. It's all around gross and I hate it. I'm just trying to spread the word bc it's still a huge problem that I've run into a lot personally. In the past 6 months or so I have encountered 4ish stupid ass Karens holding their lap dog (or in one of those dog strollers) with an ID card (or an ID on their phone) in the other at the front doors talking and arguing with employees or other people about letting their “Service Dog” or “emotional support dog” into the store. I'm not one to “fake spot” and I normally run for the hills when I see it happening. It's extremely frustrating and it puts both Ollie and me at risk. I just wish there was an easier way. Plus is scams pet and service dog handlers because of all the misinformation being spread around And I've, thank God, haven't seen the ids on service dogs personally yet but I've seen/heard alot of people who have and it's never a well behaved dog for some reason lol It's gross, it really is And is is illegal for businesses to ask/require a certification or anything as a condition for entry so there's really no reason to have them but alot people, even real sd handlers, don't know that It's sad I just see alot of people who will fake spot a sd, even though it's behaving and follows Ada laws set for handlers and their sds, simply because they have a id which is nessasarily true It's by no means proof of anything, but some people just genuinely don't know that they don't need it and then will get harassed and/or filmed by toxic sd handlers for zero reason That's where my frustration was coming from lol

Probably because they don't care...and they make a profit. Walmart did the same until about a year ago after the SD community spoke up about it. Amazon is probably too large to get it under control at this point. And plus, they make money off of it so they have no reason to put in the hours of work to get these off their platform. Most people don't care that it's illegal and negatively impacts legit Service Dog teams, and the SD community as a whole.
