Yeah, tanit's short final was looking pretty good, but he didn't flare and came down like a meteor. He didn't deploy speedbrakes, and didn't do any aerobraking after touchdown either. That landing was pretty rough all in all, but it gets the basic point across. (The point being, 3° glideslope, 11-13° AOA, meatball on the runway threshold.)

I don't see this on any of the top or recent comments, but proper airmanship on landing is power for altitude, pitch for airspeed. What this means is if you need to gain or lose altitude, you add power, which generates more lift, or cut power, which makes your wings generate less lift. If you need to gain airspeed, you pitch down(less drag), and if you need to lose airspeed you pitch up(more drag). Use this procedure to walk your meatball onto the proper glide slope.

Regarding the "3 degree nose down" questions. I think what he meant to say was -3 degree flight path. The bird looking symbol on the HUD is a flight path indicator. You should be in a nose high pitch attitude on landing but your flight path will actually be negative. i.e in this case "minus 3 degrees" following this particular glide path angle to the runway .

+Ryan P On another landing tutorial the guy stresses about using the AOA indexer, bottom left of HUD and the AOA bracket that appears when gear is down...so can i just ignore that, ensure fpm is aimed at the white markers on runway, then bring fpm up before touch down to -3 degrees...which is called the flare? and with speed at about 180-190?
@DD-sw1dd
@DD-sw1dd 8 жыл бұрын
Never seen a aircraft perform nose down landings. Talk about a ruff ride. Wonder how many ppl snapped their gear trying "3 degrees nose down" landings.

@luigix I would recommend just following the pre-planned patterns I go off of in the first part of the video, if you follow it you don't have to guess where the ILS starts, it corresponds to the beacons. You could very well be too high, as I showed in the video the ILS starts at about 5000 feet and goes down to 2000 feet for terminal guidance. Just look at the navigation chart and follow it or or at least use it for clues.

Nice tutorial, but the ideal landing speed isn't a specific knots value. Rather the flightpathmarker should be at the upper side of that vertical bracket. Then you fly with 11 degrees AOA. No matter what your weight or dragcoefficient is, you'll allways come down with a safe speed.

Hey, Tanit, it's my first time Watching your tutorials and I subscribed right away, you're awesome! I'm learning to do these navigations using the "Chart Tutorial.pdf" (Located at game folders), but I could't find anything teaching there or here about how to use\tune radio\comms. I see people talking in the internet about some radios presets and all, but that's a lot advanced for me yet. There's anyhow you do a Basic Radio Tutorial? I can't even turn the UHF on, it's always only backup mode lol.

Well what he did was a carrier landing, where you don't flair, but as far as I know the F-16's landing gear is not made at all to do landings like that! I don't know if he assumed he didn't had to flair because there's an angle of attack indicator, but there's one in the A-10 too but if you slam the A-10 on the runway like a F/A-18 you'll break the landing gear instantly.

OUCH man XD Damn you land HARD! I don't know if it's because I flew the VRS F/A-18E on a carrier but damn, let's just say I'd expect more skills from my teacher xD Nice videos though, it shows everything I need to know.

@MercuryOneOne yes I have windows 7 64 bit. There is one multiplayer server I know off the top of my head that has 10-15 guys on every night, Archer's server. There are various "virtual fighter squadrons" (the equivalent of clans) which also play the game in multiplayer. I am part of one called United Operations Air Forces, which you can see some gameplay of by checking out my other videos.

Great video! But sadly i still couldn't do it! I input the ils frequency and course, switched to ILS/NAV mode, and got in range. However i'd end up trying to chase down the Command Steering Cue, by then i might already be over the runway. On some occasions, the Command Steering Cue circle symbol actually has something sticking out of it, what does that mean? So what exactly am i doing wrong? am i too high or too low? or is it another problem entirely?? Thanks for reading!

You should correct in the beggining of the video, the glideslope indicator is the horizontal beam, and the localizer is the vertical one...

@tanit Hi tanit - I'm just adding to this one because I'm having the same problem - having tried what's said here I went to look for the command and having checked thoroughly 7 times, I can conclude that there is no assignment for NWS in my F4BMS - as though the command is not iplemented at all..? Any help would be dearly appreciated - thanks for uploading these too...I'm still trying to follow them to actually use weapons though :-P

OK, so actually you are supposed to put the runway threshold at 3 degrees down, not your nose? The original Falcon 4.0 manual has some good info on how to set the plane down. Apparently the correct approach speed is 160, and the plane has air brakes you are supposed to trigger before you flare, to drop to 130 before touchdown.

Thumbs-Up) and any feebback on my questions.

Tanit, I used to fly huge 747s in my simulator and recently got to bms 4.32.What i wnt to say is that the approach speed in a huge aircraft is approximately 165 knots and the landing speed arround 150 knots which means that your approach was too fast.Secondly right next to the runway there are 4 lights,the PAPI lights.In your approach you must have two reds and two whites the more white the higher you are while with the red is the opposit.You had 4 whites which means that you are way too high.

@RapaFan first download a torrent of a CD image of the original Falcon 4.0 and burn it to a CD (you'll need the CD only for installation, not gameplay). Next go to the Falcon BMS (Benchmark Sims)site and download Falcon BMS 4 and the latest update BMS 4.32 (they're both free and insanely awesome). You're ready to play.

Hi Krause, I seem to be having a problem getting ILS to work in the air if I've done a ramp start on the ground, suggesting to me I've maybe left a switch out. Anyway when I push 1 on the ICP, my DED scratchpad TCN as ON, ILS as ON. Instead of showing CHAN and BAND it says backup, and it doesn't allow me to input any information into the DED in order to set ILS up. A screenshot is available here: puu.sh/9r1hD/e74b4fb199.jpg Is there some switch I have to turn on in the pit, or some information I need to put in beforehand? It should be noted that when I opt to just takeoff instead of cold start the plane it works fine, so pretty sure it's my own incompetence. Thanks for any responses in advance.
@eddievhfan1984
@eddievhfan1984 9 жыл бұрын
lb8068 Your image is no longer up, but the "backup" indication suggests that the TACAN/ILS data entry is being controlled from the AUX COMM (or AUX NAV) panel on the left rear side of the cockpit. There should be a switch there to pass that control back to the ICP.

I think he fails to flair right before touchdown. I've always heard that you should pull up slightly so that your VVC (velocity vector cue, or flight path indicator) points at the end of the runway a split second before your wheels make contact.
