It's been awhile since I last flew Falcon BMS. Recently 4.37 came out and I wanted to check that out. I started the Tiger Spirit Campaign, for starters I flew BARCAP mission to re-familiarize myself with BMS (Viper is perhaps one of the aircraft Ihat I'm not forgetting how to do stuff in). On that first sortie I even got 2 kills. So for the second one I thought I maybe try something more demanding - a strike mission behind enemy lines was a good candidate. The mission called for a strike on a underground factory, with primary target being ventilation shaft. I don't remember seeing that kind of mission target before? The default loadout was laser Maverick and TGP for salf-lasing - a combo which I never did in Falcon 4 actually. But since I did it not long ago in DCS Hornet I figured I should be able to make it work (hopefully). So I started the jet (remembered to switch the AG laser from TRNG to CMB) taxied to the runway and started recording.
The mission went pretty well, got primary target. We even tangled with enemy fighters on the egress, though there were so many friendlies in the mix I didn't wanted to risk AMRAAM shot and possibly a fratricide.
The only embarassing moment was the landing, which was pretty hard, I guess flying Hornet with the sturdy gear recently in DCS teaches you bad habits :) The impact was so powerful my engine died with several other systems - including BRAKES! I though I never stop.
The sim is great as always, but one thing bothers me since 4.32 - why you can't display your briefing essentials on your kneeboard like in original or Allied Force?
I like the new UI and the soundtrack is pretty cool too. This version also introduced VR support, so all of you who own a headset can finally play Falcon in VR. I'm really hyped for the upcoming new terrain engine. Falcon BMS with DCS graphics would be a perfect sim.

I am getting back into Falcon as well. The last version for me was Falcon 4.0 Allied Force. I think what BMS has done with Falcon is absolutely amazing. Yes DSC has a better (newer)graphics engine, but that doesn't mean that BMS is bad for a flight sim. Its the immersion and the actual feeling that you are part of a war, not just you against the world.

Good to see a playthrough of BMS from ya. I've been enjoying VR on this myself, but I'm thinking that might be my limit since I'm unsure how that new graphics engine is gonna perform on my low end PC when the new version comes out. That aside, I am still excited to see what the future of this great mod is.

VR now added? Need to dig out my cdrom. I remember upgrading to AMD 650 Athlon to play Falcon 4.0 and Jane's F15.

Yeah, apparently now it's official, I saw some hack before but now it works out of the box, though I don't have the means to test it since I don't own any VR headset.

I find that the PARKING BREAK switch is on a different hydraulics system than the wheel brakes. In an emergency, parking break on will hopefully slow the jet!

As I noted in the video description, I've been flying the Hornet in DCS too often lately, Viper's gear in comparison is sooo weak ;)

Yeah - youre giving me the bug now…. Sometimes, I just want to go back home to where I belong and to this day, its the only game out there that makes me feel a part of a war effort. Now if i can just sort out the pesky USB ID bindings to my Warthog scripts. It always gives me trouble in BMS.

I remember underground factories being the target in vanilla Falcon 4.0 but can't remember if there were actual ventilation shafts? I would have to fire up the original again and check for myself.

How the hell do you have the time to learn all the different controls for the retro games you play - mixed with modern stuff, too? Or do you have a bunch of control/assignment lists? I have a little book that i write the main controls in, but it's still hard to get gameplay flowing with different titles all the time.

Yeah, it can be a problem. Most of the older games are pretty simple and since I played them since they came out, most of their controls I have engraved in my brain ;) also I have plenty of phisical reference cards and manuals to rely on when playing them. For the more modern stuff like BMS and DCS it's bit trickier - there are way more controls, usually I need to refamiliarize myself when flying a DCS module I haven't flown for some time, but muscle memory kicks in and the knowledge comes back pretty fast. Also I guess I'm a fast lerner. I remember when DCS Apache came out I spent maybe 2-3 hours learning start-up and basic avionics controls (how to work MFDs, input cords, employ weapons etc) and was able to fly a combat mission the same day.

I agree, at least the basics should be added automatically. There are few ways to do that. The "easiest" is using Weapon Delivery Planner. You save the mission before starting it, open it with WPD and there you can add things to the map and select what you want in the kneeboards. Mission parameters, flights plans, maps, images, you own stuff...

Yeah I figured there was some workaround but the way Allied Force (and even Falcon 4) did it was simple and neat. Even something basic like your package callsigns, steerpoints with time/alt/speed would suffice.

The easiest method is to use a tool called ez boards. Its on your knees as soon as you click "print" on briefing screen.

You could have used the emergency hook and arrestor cables.

If I knew my landing would end as it did I would ;) The plane was in pristine condition up untill the touchdown.

@@damsonn No matter. Once on ground, if you see that brakes are ineffective, you can lower the hook and catch one of the runway cables (yellow circles sings). ;-)
