Fall is a great time to ride a train! The leave on trees change colors and there's no better place to see that than the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, in my opinion.
On September 29, 2018 The Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec, a non-profit group dedicated to the preservation of railroad equipment and building structures, hosted a special steam-powered freight train over the C&TS through the fall colors of the railroad. This was a photo charter train which is a very unique opportunity to get rare shots of the train in unaccessible areas that only the train can take you.
This train consisted of:
ex-DRGW K-27 #463 (renumbered as 453 for the charter), 5 boxcars, 2 gondola cars, 2 tank cars, 2 more boxcars (1 for passengers, 1 for concessions), 2 more gondolas (both for passengers), 1 more boxcar (for passengers and storage), & 1 caboose. The total was 1 locomotive, 9 freight cars, 5 "passenger" cars, and the caboose (15 cars).

The Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec are always looking for people, particularly younger people, who want to help preserve this railroad and keep it going for many years to come. To sign up and keep history living, click here: www.cumbrestoltec.org/
