Great job, that is where I caught all of my spring crappie. I was over about 15' and fishing between the big log and that brushy tree you were fishing in.

Yeah, you should check it out. It’s a good lake. Tons of shad so the predator populations are very strong

Is that lake open for the public? I've never heard of it but I'm always looking for new fishing spots

Yes, it’s north of West T. Just search green valley recreation area. It’s good bass and crappie, had some nice channels in there too. Real good shad population so the lake is fed well

Anyway, Crappie are notoriously known for their soft strike and the weak cartilage which constructs their mouth. The way I have so far been able to successfully overcome this dilemma up here in northern Indiana, is to add a weight to a tiny treble hook about a foot below the weighted baited (usually a minnow) hook so if you miss or rip the strike....you can snag on the way up. The tiny treble hook weight, of course, needs to be just a bit heaiver than the single hook weight. Try not to use lead weights.....I still do...but we should try not to. (Random Emoji Here).

Yeah I use steel whenever I can get em. Crappie definitely have those soft mouths. Totally agree. I like throwing small spinners or jigs for crappie best but that lake just makes a fool of me unless I’m using live.

Dang 10lbs line is about over kill for crappies do r you think? Lol just saying. I only use 4lbs
@reliablyrandomoutdoors Жыл бұрын
Yeah i totally agree. It’s just what I had on and I didn’t bother changing it. If I had been casting lite spinners I would have gone to something lighter, probably floracarbon 6lb. But they aren’t line shy and there are large channels in that lake so it covered my bases if I needed to pull a 10lb channel up. Which I have seen in that lake

Who cares. Whatever catches them is the point of it all.
