New here? My name is Lea and I live with my partner Maarten, our toddler Puck and baby Bo on our land in Central Portugal. We left the rat race in the Netherlands in 2018 and moved south in our old campervan. Two years ago we bought land in Portugal that had been abandoned for several decades. After lots of hard work we now live in a beautiful yurt and keep ourselves busy growing our own vegetables as well as producing olive oil, wine and honey on a small scale. This channel documents all the different jobs we have to do, and sometimes some nice footage of this beautiful country we now call home.

Stuff the peppers and bake them in the oven. The stuffing is made from bread crumbs, parsley, Italian cheese, salt and pepper. Delicious!

Bo is so cute, fully walking all around now in his blue jacket. I also liked that he fed Louie, that's a good chore for him. 🙂 Lovely flowers & glad everything there finally greened up with the rain. I used to grow Amaranth mainly for the blast of bloom color, but the birds seemed to like it as well.

I do not know if I can adequately explain how calming and rooting I find the regularity of the timing f the year is. I used to be a teacher so I could feel the turning of the year. If u look at attic 24 u will see someone who has repeated the year and making blankets again and again. Just different colours and stitches. You will not be talking to the same people. Your audience will transition over time. I have Parkinson’s disease and cannot do walks in nature any more. I love walking with you.

In the West Indies Amaranth is known as Calalu ( SP ? ) , where the leaves are cooked like a spinach, in which form it is delicious; so the seeds are just a bonus ! J

Watching you collecting caterpillars off the plants brings me to the point that now anyone of us can see how agriculture would look like without using treatment, chemical or whatever. Because that would mean a pricing that no one could afford anymore. Hope I m not the only one who sees this now...

I love those stone walls. The amaranth is beautiful. I'd like to try growing it, but I think it's too humid where I am. Those green veggies look good. Bo is soooo happy and cute.

Idk how well known it is, but the Amaranth leaves are edible, too. Obviously that's not a lot of calories, but it's still a larger yield.

Garlic and touch of olive oil crush and spray for garden pests.. especially when there small eggs first layer by the pesky butterflies that lay the eggs of the hungry worms

You really have to work hard in your garden and it looks good. I loved your walk along those stone walls. Everything looks so pretty and so green. The flowers in your garden are really pretty too especially the pink ones. I think those may be cone flowers. I love seeing your little boy wandering around picking up things. He's so cute. I really enjoyed this video.

Yes the hours of daylight does pass so quickly especially if you need to use it for certain tasks. Can be frustrating but you always manage somhow! Bo sees you talking to the camera and likes to do it too, as you previously said he likes looking at himself! Maybe his interest will grow and he will be filming his and Puks own little plots. Who knows but I can picture it though. Hows the digger repair going? Nice to see the winter sun and the green after the rains. Lovely video, thanks for sharing and see you next time. 👍

Water with a few drops of dish soap usually works well on bugs and caterpillars

Hi Lea, I imagine that the sun shining days in winter, are so welcoming and sure make it worthwhile to live off grid on the land. Delicious meal! Bo is a diligent little helper, with the dog food and bringing in the wood. 😊 What source of light do you use indoors? 🌷Sam

The winter sun is lovely :) Funny, because in the summer we don't like to sit in the sun at all... We just have a simple usb charged lamp inside, should really get another one

I noticed you do no have yt tags on your videos. With tags people find you on KZfaq so much easier and view count will go up. Tags for this video could be: Good food, vegies, vegie garden, Off grid, off grid living, dinner, dinner preparation, Portugal off grid, Portugal, hunting dog, family off grid, Bluetti, Bluetti off grid, homestead, Portugal homestead, walk, work in garden, garden work, walking and so on. Then there are search engines, you can do the same with search engines. You get the idea 😁 Our chickens live beyond 5 years mark. We don't do any stress on them and our roster is nice to them and kids. We did bought 20 white chickens for food (one can be of excess of 5kg++).

Your peppers are beautiful and we like to stuff and bake ours. We use a combination of tomatoes, rice, ground meat and cheese . I am enjoying your videos and am still waiting to see if I can order some olive oil.

stuffed peppers! my grandma used to stuff them with meat, rice, raisins, veg, and spices. she would vac seal and freeze them to bake as needed.

if you get a long stick with a grove at the end stick it under the clothesline push it up high to catch the breeze the clothes will dry better

Researching I found that amaranth has the same amino acid as rice, that is missing in beans to make a whole protein, so even a little may be of value because of that. Sesame seed also has that methionine. they are a sulfur protein.

It is good to have multiple small battery bank as opposed to one large one. In Puerto Rico, Ukraine and other sites of tragedies going solar is very good.

I have heard that people make green pepper soup. Well I guess it's called stuffed pepper soup. I think that would be really good with your peppers. Maybe easier to make the making stuffed peppers. But then green peppers are good in 😊chili too.

Does make me chuckle listening to your out loud self pep talking, I have a very similar commentary in my own head! You can make peppers stuffed with amaranth, or rice or meat, or a combination of those. If you have butternut squash you can make a lovely soup with the squash and peppers. Fajitas are good with peppers. Roast them to add to hummus. I'm getting hungry now! Those curry paste pots are great for a quick dinner aren't they, definitely no shame in keeping a variety of ways to feed the family x

I like neem oil for insect resistance. Mix with water and an emulsifier and spray, making sure the bottom of the leaves are sprayed.

Great vlog ! There was something different and special about this week's post..I really liked the way you put it together,starting with the hike home and the daily chores from gardening to cooking 🙂... you seemed to also up your video techniques too ,. Anyway , im happy water is plenty these days and things are greener. Your greenhouse is looking good also, are you overwintering your pepper plants? My gardening is over for the winter ,but I need to prepare for seed starting in a few months and that takes dragging my little greenhouse in from outside, cleaning and then eventually setting it up in my studio..enjoy your week I hope all goes well with the tractor 🙂

Hi Lea nice to see you're all oky. I love that plant or vegetable that you was talking about in the beginning, it's the most beautiful color, like purple? Would like some of that seeds to see if it will grow here. Would love a video of it definitely and to see how you eat it. As you can see we don't know that kind of plant or veggies. I always take all my peppers, crockette, chillies, unions tamatoes etc, cut it in little blocks, wash it and put it in little baggs and freeze it to use in winter time. I also took out all our plants in the garden, just left the beautiful one's. And plant a lot of vegetables all over our garden. So now we have a big veggie garden.😄. Hard work but yes health is better than anything. I love the path that you have walked, the views are stunning. Wish you're knew home is done already because I think the views will be breathtaking. Tobacco is an excellent garden pest TRAP.. bugs love it, and then the neurotoxin kills them; flies especially. Then the bugs do not reproduce. Add in afternoon shading for your Tenders. Gardening winner.

I'm trying to get amaranth developed for my area as well. The advantage to amaranth is that it can be grown for beauty and pollinator food. If we get enough to make a food treat, even better! WRT growing any grains as a homestead staple, my research suggests it's pointless. roots, leaves, and fruits produce WAY MORE food than grains. I think humans have grains as a staple because we developed our societies in grasslands where grains could be easily foraged in the vast emptiness of nature.

Yeah grains are very hard work for very little, much better to do with machines. But still good to experiment with in my opinion :)

Wat ik uit de video nou niet helemaal meekreeg over de Amaranth is: zijn die zaadjes altijd zo klein en wist je dat niet en viel het daarom tegen? Of zijn ze "bij anderen" veel groter en viel het door lokale omstandigheden bij jullie tegen? Ik vermoed dat je gewoon een flink veld zult moeten aanleggen, maar ja dan wordt het oogsten natuurlijk wel een dingetje. Er is uiteindelijk wel een reden waarom "het grote geld" ook grotere tractoren t/m combines etc. heeft uitgevonden. Klein prutsen is leuk, maar dan blijft het hobbyen en het wordt dan niet snel 'self sustainable'. Denk toch meer inzetten op allerlei verschillende calorie-dense items. Een veld vol van hetzelfde zaad (i.c. Amaranth) blijft ook een enorm risico.

I've noticed you have a fly trap hanging from one tree... recipe ? does it work? I made one with vinegar sugar and detergent and It did not work.

This one had milk in it, didn’t work super well. In the summer we usually have something sugary in there to attract the asian wasps and that also attracts flies.
