I can honestly forgive things not being in chronological order since it fits with the theme of the song...events are no longer merely building but blending together. A bad thing led into a bad thing before but now it's daily occurrences

To me the out of order, is a nod to the internet happening. Its exactly how you learn on the internet... A Rabbit hole; jumping around searching out events. The Internet exploded during '89-present.

I think everything out of order just adds to the absolute chaos of the world we are living in. It also shows how information is constantly coming at us quicker than we can absorb it or often even remember where things fit in time.

“Tiger King” kinda alludes to the pandemic. It was one of the first Things of the pandemic, here in the USA at least, and you can’t really explain why it was popular without mentioning the pandemic. There were plenty of shows that were popular the past three decades, but choosing this one kinda does extra lifting. Streaming services becoming more important than network TV and something “everyone” watched because we were all in our homes. Also, I kinda feel like having things out of order just kinda adds to the, “I’m exhausted and don’t even remember what happened anymore” feeling a lot of us have. Plus, if you just sing the time line, people notice things that are missing instead of just listening to all the events. “Hey, between J and K, -- happened! How could they skip that?”

Also like, did they want to make it even more depressing than it already is?? Imo no. So they mentioned things in a lighter way sometimes like you put. They could have listed 100 just depressing as hell things, but they chose not too and for good reason imo

Tell me, does life make sense any more? Do major events make sense any more? You'd be lying if you said yes. Life is chaotic, and this song represents that very fact imo. Idk if it's why they did it that way, but to me it makes a lot of sense how chaotic it is

There was a reason why it was not in order. As a Xillennial (too young to me gen X and too old to be a millennium) it was to show that we went from one extreme to the next extreme moment (i know what your going to say) the other thing is that they had be careful was the phrasing of each verse. There are only so many notes in each verse that a songwriter gets. Once again F.O.B. had to be selective in what events they chose and would work with phrasing of each song As a singer and songwriter i always say this if you think you can do it better then take the structure of the song and put the event lyrics you choose to cover in chronological order, and no you dont get any extra verse or measure

The reason thing aren't in chronological order is they wanted to match the flow of the original.
