Love your videos, you show what is really like to do this job. Even simple jobs can kick you up the ass. I'm 62 and semi retired, my knees are shot, my hands are shot and of course my back is shot too and I still do this crap a couple of days a week. Carry on the struggle mate 👍

Chris the outer part on the old bearing is a locking collar if you look inside the bearing side of the collar you will see it is oddly shaped to the bearing being round, the idea is you fit the collar over the shaft onto the bearing and turn the the collar in the opposite direction to the rotating shaft, tighten by tapping with a punch and hammer, and then lock the grub screw. Hence locking the bearing to the shaft.

Battery testers yeah the old toaster element type we took tops off and watch for bubbles looking back you understand why elf and safety binned them those cheap flicky switch ones only do 250 300 amps so no use for commy batteries maybe 900 amps more So they are always going to give false reading and false hopes Have a digital one when chinese stuff was cheap and it's been bang on

Yes! CB does indeed stand for "Charge Battery" on most battery testers. In this case though, the rear-most battery was in poor condition, and batteries wired in series (like these are, they double the 12v of a single battery to the 24v used by most large equipment) mean the 'pack' as a whole, if you imagine it like that, will mean the duff battery would pull the good battery down quickly, because it's being hammered much harder than it should be to pick up the slack from the failing one. Hence, as Chris says, you always replace them together.

Hi Chris , a few days before you do cab mounts , I’d spray the bolts with wd40 that go up over , securing the cab mounting to the van body , they can be very tight.

Yeah, it sucks when the crucial vehicle is playing against you. Mind you, the bus does not realise who it's up against. If there's one person who can keep it on the road, it's you! Love your videos. And I am painfully aware I wouldn't last more than 10 minutes in your job 👍

Chris what sort of waste is your customer processing? Plant is all very low to the ground and hard to keep clean as a result but it’s mobile plant I suppose! They are running some decent gear

Eccentric collar, normally one grub screw to hold the collar in place and one indent to help tighten the collar onto the bearing (and loosen) caught me out once or twice when working in dark!

yeah had one of those digital drop testers, didnt last long, used it a few times them nothing. prefer as you said ones with needle. not sure i trust these new handheld testers!! cant beat pulling a shed load of amps and watching the voltage.

I find with pressed on bearings like that, smash in the best way possible the out casing off and what is left of the ball bearing. Grind the remaining bearing shell right down to the shaft, smack it with a good blow, it should crack then at the lowest point and with the heat created by the grinder and the extra microns of space made between the shell and the shaft, it should slide straight off. Try and grind if possible where the grub screws sit. Having dealt with 100s of these, that have been pressed on with 75 ton. Heavier the tonnage, the better the crack ;)

Honestly don't know how you do it with a baby/toddler in tow. I've a 4 year old daughter and i used to think while the Mrs was pregnant that oh... I'll be able to take the baby and do this job, that job etc... Then she was born and honestly, if I took her out I'd get nothing done what so ever! I mention it to her now that when she's older she can come with me for a few hours, maybe watch her tablet or summat in the passenger seat... But I just know what would happen..
