Among the several high quality knives I own, the F1 certainly is my favourite and also the one I grab most. Mine was about $ 300,- because of the 3G steel version. You're right, in a fresh water environment it hardly doesn't rust, but it does when it comes in contact with sea water.

The F1 was never consciously my favourite knife. I have a substantial collection of good outdoor knives. But i kept going back to my F1. Because its just so good. Fallkniven has a 40+ year contract with the Swedish airforce to produce the F1. For the airfore they have a special sheath to fit in their uniform. They also made a tanto version of the F1. Called the PRK, police pescue knife. Fallkniven made that model for a special police unit for the swedish police force. Cool stuff!

It’s a great blade! Very versatile going from the outdoors to the kitchen without any hang ups with that full convex! I gave my brother the vg10 version and recently bought myself the cos version, haven’t really pushed it to notice any difference yet but appreciate it all around

Great review, as always. Ultimate pilot survival knife? Depends. Now I lay out the variables I will be using the Ontario SP2 knife which is the modern version of the original, USAF survival knife, the Ontario 499. The F1 was designed to be worn with gloves in the artic regions of the world. The USAF knife was designed to be worn by the crew in a transport airplane with a bare hand. The serrations on the top were designed to cut thrown the aluminum body of an aircraft, not to be a fire starter as people assume. The F1 costs 3x the price of the Ontario SP2. If you allow me to 1. cut off the rubberized top knife guard of the SP2 with a pair of clippers and 2. 10 minutes to work the blade, disregarding the sheath, I will hand you a pilot survival knife that will perform very well when compared to the F1. I like to carry a fixed blade knife, in a survival situation in a horizontal position in a sheath behind the back on a pants belt. So, now I have to spend money to have a special sheath. Most people do not know who to use a knife in a survival situation because they don't have skills. How do you skin a squirrel? How can you start a fire with a knife? How can you sharpen a knife . . .you can use a rock . . . if you have the skill. So for most people, the answer is going to be buy the F1 without a sheath and have a sheath made . . . but, if I want to carry the f1 while wearing a suit, I use the factory sheath and put the knife into the sheath and then into a suit pants pocket

I've had my VG10 version for around 4 years now, and I swear by it! I've gone and batoned with it, made feather sticks with it, etc., and it's still retained a strong sharp edge. Made to be used with confidence. It's just a solid classic, totally reliable and perfect in my hand!

Looks like a great handy knife. I recently purchased my first Fallkniven NL2 Odin. They are not cheap but you get what you pay for. Really strong knives. Nice handle. Thanks for sharing Dave

The Fallkniven F1 is a fantastic blade. Loved the one I had. Gave my brother the F1. But I still have my Fallkniven WM1. A very nice smaller blade. Great video

Enjoy watching your F1 analysis. I have the Aurora which is 2x more expensive but I really wanted a CPM-3V small fixed blade knife with a very comfortable grip. I think the BRKs are overrated. If coldsteel still made the master hunter 3V I would have gotten that instead. I am not too impressed with the VG10 steel and I know they have the COS pro and X versions. I may just get the F1x super steel, Elmax I think when it comes out.

The SRK also comes with the laminated blade but I don’t think they are cheap. I’ve had mine for about 10 years and can’t fault it. That being said the f1 is a bloody good knife and punches well above its weight and lives in my get home bag.

I like the F1 but at the price point I like the LionSteel B41 better. You get better steel (Sleipener is awesome stuff - comparable to A2) and a nice leather sheath instead of the fisher price sheath you get with the F1.

I have over a ton of fixed blades, yet no Falknivens. I really should pick one up for the collection.

Would you choose this over an SRK? Pacific Northwest environment
