Fall of Civilizations

Ай бұрын

Far in the distance, three colossal shapes tower over the desert horizon…
In this episode, we travel to the Nile Valley, and tell the story of one of the most iconic cultures ever produced by humankind - the civilizations of ancient Egypt. I want to show how this series of related cultures grew up in the floodplains of their great river, and built some of the most enduring and recognizable structures in the world. And I want to tell the story of what happened to bring the age of the Pharaohs finally and cataclysmically to an end.

Oh yes, easily. FoC puts mainstream/legacy media outlets to shame. The History Channel is too busy producing dumb series about pawnshops or whatever…but who cares when there are brilliant people who clearly love history creating masterpieces like this series- that anyone can enjoy for free on KZfaq/spotify/etc. I hope the producer(s) of this channel know how widely beloved their work is.

"Fall Of Civilizations" is truly one of the greatest channels on KZfaq. Superior productions of the most interesting of subjects. I wish these were the videos they showed us in school. I was just thinking about how I got more out of 4 hours of KZfaq than I did through the same amount of the subject being discussed in World History class in 10th grade. I think it's because in school, they're more concerned with the names, the time periods, the dates. The things that can be be tested in multiple choice. Whereas with this narrative, those things are included, but they are only part of the larger story of the rise and fall of the dynasties themselves. The whos and whats support the WHYs and the HOWS and those are the things that will help us remember.

Hey, I too enjoy history because it helps me _"understand human nature and the flow of the world."_ And, if you enjoy history books too, I highly, HIGHLY recommend: *Making Sense of World History* - _Rick Szostak_ (Google it) It's the best piece of media I've found for _exactly_ this kind of thing. Fortunately, it's Open Access (i.e. free to the public) since this project was funded by the European Union. It covers the entirety of human history, in a surprising amount of detail for a single book, with the goal of helping you understand the flow of human civilization from the beginning of humanity to the present -- not just our current scientific understading of the "what happened" but also of "why it happened that way." It also shows the commonalities between multiple societies (tribes, civilizations, etc.) throughout history, hence increasing your understanding human nature as well.

Amazing work, by the Egyptians, and by this channel's creator! To say, "Well done!" would be a tremendous understatement. I don't know what to say, except, "Thank you!!"

The quality of your presentations is fantastic. The detail, the pacing, and your vocal style make it very engaging for the viewer/listener. I have listened to many of your presentations over the past few years, and each time I find myself drawn into the particular topic, even though at first instance, I wasn't entirely interested in that topic. Well done, and thanks.

I watch KZfaq more than I probably should; however, even with literally hundreds of subscriptions, this may be my favorite channel. (It is even *imho* one of the best channels, which is a different thing altogether which does not necessarily overlap.) Although the wait was/is difficult, I *definitely* prefer to wait for it to be done right with care. As a former software engineer I understand the economics of TTM ("Time To Market") and cash flow etc. But I believe that over the long term any immediate/temporary losses from a slow release in order to perfect the quality will be more than compensated in the long term with positive word-of-mouth and grass-roots channel support. Plus (and imho most importantly) you are doing a great service to humanity at large by sharing the most accurate representation possible of our history and shared identity/place in the universe. All this told in such a compelling and exciting narrative...which results in even more sharing and understanding, culminating in the most wonderful human capacity: empathy. ...All of this juxtaposed over the bleakest, unfair, and nihistic setting/backdrop imaginable. This epiphany in the midst of a worldwide contradiction is almost Hegelian in its dialectic. ...phew! I hope that made sense. I am a clunky writer at the best of times.

If you want an esoteric channel, have you heard of The Why FIles?
@yurkdawg
@yurkdawg Ай бұрын
@@scrollop The Why Files is a great channel. It's funny you mention that because that is one of my roomate's favorite channels. Tbh coming from an engineering/scientific background I tend to be a skeptic when it comes to "extraordinary claims" while my philosophy-major roomate is more open-minded in that regard. (Although I hope I am more open-minded than those scientists who seem to be stuck in a materialistic worldview.) But we both come together to watch both this channel and The Why Files because he always makes compelling arguments. (I respect that he even highlights counter-arguments at the end.) ...that said sometimes I want to strangle Hecklefish (j/k... kidding 😂)

@yurkdawg > coming from an engineering/scientific background from I tend to be a skeptic when it comes to "extraordinary claims" while my philosophy-major roomate is more open-minded in that regard Is it any surprise then that philosophy is the epitome of "I will talk your head off for money"? Your friend needs to stop being a useless mouth and learn something useful, like mathematics.
