+smokejc When people say, you're one in a million, they mean that, if there were a million people, no one could replace him or what he did. An average Joe, his work and his contributions can be replicated by anyone. So, to call Robin Williams"one', he means that what Robin Williams has given us, what he has done, can be replicated by no one, to which I second.

"He was the Muhammad Ali of comedy." And now we've lost Muhammad Ali too...a testament to his (Ali's) legacy is the fact that his name literally became synonymous with "the greatest." And Robin Williams certainly was "the greatest" of comedy, bar none. All these legends are dropping like flies. Ali, Williams, Prince, David Bowie, etc.

At the beggining you can see jimmy wanted to cry so bad, and thats whats so sad about his death. You know you lived a good life you can make a grown man cry because of your death. Robin was one of the best, funniest, and most nicest people ever. And even though this is a shitty and dark world, he was one of the few who made it less sucky and brought joy to mother earth. Something not just anyone can do. Im Tearing up because i grew up with his stuff. and i wish he could of lived more, just alittle more so that he could see This world being a better place and how he was one of the ones who were the cause of it: Rest in peace Rob's

The end when he stood on the desk and said "O Captain my captain...you will be missed" I just broke down. He affected people on such an emotional scale and I don't think anyone realised it. Even if you hadn't watched any of his films/stand-up/shows in ages, you still knew exactly who he was and the smile he put on your face. Then as soon as he passed away it hit like a bombshell. Such a sad sad loss. But lets not dwell on the misery, rather explore the happiness that a single man had given to our hearts. RIP Robin, we ain't never had a friend like you.

I completely agree, I didn't realise how much his death would affect me. The strange thing is, I was thinking about him around the probable time of his death. I was thinking about his inside the actors studio interview and how much he made me smile. Someone else put it so perfectly, that it doesn't feel like the celebrity Robin Williams died, but your cool "Uncle Robin" died. I am crying writing this and I just can't believe that he's gone it just feels like comedy in the world won't be the same again. O Captain, my Captain, thank you so much.

What about the family he left behind? His wife, and his two children? The millions who loved him as fans? Are they not hurt by his decision? Perhaps cowardly is not the best descriptor, but it is most certainly selfish and in the overwhelming majority of cases the suboptimal choice. It's the worst decision anyone can make, but it's no reason to disrespect the dead. He was certainly a great man and he will be sorely missed.

Am not a Fallon/Tonight Show fan, but I heard about his tribute to RW & wanted to see it for myself. I was impressed at how Fallon spoke of RW, and it was obvious that he was feeling very emotional. But at the end, when he stood on the desk and did the "Captain, my Captain" quote from "Dead Poets Society," I felt tears running down my cheeks. Fallon is a class act, as was the late Robin Williams.

He was very loved by his family and wife. He had suspected bipolar disorder, depression and severe alcoholism. He had been into treatment centers for these problems many times. He used to talk about the sound of his alcohol bottle jangling around as he walked down the street to go have another night of binge drinking. Behind his eyes, there lay a sad man who self-medicated. Life is truly ironic in that sense... that a man who brought so much joy was really so depressed inside. He did not take his life, his mental illness's did (metaphorically). :-(

I did not know him; I have never talked to him; I have not felt what he must have felt; I only saw things, he did, heard things, he said and read words others or he himself wrote on him. Does this vindicate my mourning his death? Yes! Should I mourn the passing of numerous faceless, nameless others who died with him this instance? Yes and I do, every day. *Alas, more importantly, his grief and his demise and the grief and demise of others call out for our compassion and love lest their torment was in vane!* I wished I knew him, I wished I had talked to him, I wished, I had felt what he had felt, I wished, I had touched his soul as he had and has touched mine, so that I could allay his pangs, brighten his days and just give him comfort in my strong and loving embrace. Do not walk by if you see somebody cry! Do not walk by if you see somebody bleed! Do not walk by if you see somebody starve! Do not walk by if you see somebody who is a famous actor but feels alone in his heart, so alone, that he was willing to die in agony! Reach out to your neighbour, let him and her, animal or human being, feel your love and empathy lest no-one must suffer and take his or her life alone! *Be the light, you want to see! Be the love, you want to receive! Be kind, social, modest, clement and act in the name of love.* Thaulopi

The poster should have just disabled comments here, sad to say. People just want to take the time to share in the happiness the man brought into their lives...all of our lives. His personality made the world feel like we knew him personally. Those who made negative comments here, if you knew anything about his philanthropy, maybe you would have kept your negativity to yourselves? What have YOU done lately to better your world, your community...your personal relationships? I read somewhere that he was good friends with Christopher Reeve. As he laid in his hospital bed after that riding accident, paralysed and ready to give up on everything, he said it was Robin Williams who brought him out of himself, making him laugh and giving him the strength to move forward. He was a good man...everyone felt that, especially his fans. Nonetheless, there are unfortunately always miserable people that feel the need to make hurtful comments, further alienating everyone and making folks feel worse. Sad.

if any guest on a show did that now it'd be considered 100% cringe, but when Robin did it, it was hilarious. I'm still so sad about this, and for people saying he 'doesn't deserve praise' cause he killed himself. 1. its ''suspected'' suicide and 2. I'm pretty dam sure if a close family member or friend of yours killed themselves you'd have hell to pay for anyone you heard saying negative things about them so SHUT THE HELL UP. This man was amazing, A huge part of my childhood in terms of movies. From Genie of the lamp to the Leader of the lost boys in Neverland. It takes a lot these days for me to find comedians/actors funny and Robin makes me laugh every single time. He will be sorely missed, and without a doubt never. EVER forgotten. Robin had numerous battles with depression and different damaging addictions so, unfortunately, this can be the end result if on isn't watched carefully. It doesn't help that people simply don't understand depression. Even when you have everything, it can feel like you have nothing. Sometimes you get to the point where nothing matters, nothing you do changes anything, nothing anyone says changes how you feel; it is a dark and disturbing place and sometimes there is no way out and you're willing to do anything to make it all stop. I really wish Robin didn't feel the need to go that far and I wish he wasn't so miserable. On the other hand, I'm wondering (and this is a really unpopular opinion/though), if this really is what he wanted. Maybe he felt he had done all that he could; his family was well taken care of, I'm sure he had made enough money and had royalties that will continue to take care of his wife and children, he has done an insane amount of things with his life, and maybe he was just done. There was no more he felt he could or wanted to do. When you get to that point, when you truly and honestly feel that there is nothing left to live for, perhaps making an exit is for the best? Especially if you're going to be miserable for the rest of your life? I don't know. One day, perhaps, we will find out, but in the meantime, I love you, Mr. Williams. See you on the other side.

B Mcgee I'm sorry. But I'm not questioning whether or not Robin Williams had depression. Or that someone who seems happy on the outside can feel like killing themselves. I'm actually suggesting more than that which doesn't only have to do with Robin Williams but high profile celebrities who die from either suicide, drug overdose or other accidents in "Hollywood". People call this a conspiracy...but I know there is something more going on that the people are not privileged to in the mainstream media. That is what I meant and was actually suggesting. Not on depression alone. I'm sorry that this was not clear. Of course I have my own beliefs like everyone and until people see this come out in some way they may not accept it as the Media is so good at their 'job'.
