When Fallout 3 came out, my buddies and I lived in VA and after playing it to death we put together a long weekend trip to DC. Did this very thing, hit all the spots where the game played out. We did it a few years later for Vegas, and then again for Boston. We haven't done WV yet, we've all scattered over the past few years. But this video cinched it, once the crazy calms down a bit around here, I'm picking up the phone, pulling out my Vault 101 hoodie and getting the band back together. Great video and thanks for the inspiration.

Why bother visiting the locations, my vegas trip was lame af. No male ghoul "dancers" asking me if i like what i see, no cannibals asking me to kill farmer boys in order to make a burger and no vault hotel with no sarah so i brought 30 vault suits for nothing with me. At least i had the chance to blast some freeside thugs who attacked me with knifes and pool cues even tho the very unimersive human looking securitrons sayed there where some kind of festival visitors or something. Idk skipped the dialogue. Why even building a theme park that size in honor of new vegas and then the only gameplay thing is the lucky 38 and gambling.

@@uhtred7860 As far as I know Germantown was called Germantown because most of the early immigrants there were Germans. In Germany we don't have a place called "Americantown" or similar but what we do have are small villages with names like "Amerika", "Kalifornien", "Philadelphia" and "Neu Boston". The settlement "Amerika" in northern Germany was named this way because it was located in such a hard-to-reach swampy terrain that traveling there around 200 years ago seemed as difficult as traveling to the actual America.

Edit, 12. Dec 2020: For some reason since a few weeks this video seems to be in favor of the almighty KZfaq algorithm. I would like to thank all friendly commenters and supporters :) Original comment: I made a mistake. The bridge at 0:05 resembles the Key Bridge of Washington DC much more than the Arlington Memorial Bridge. I assumed that it was supposed to be the Arlington Memorial Brdige because in the game it is quite close to the Washington Monument. The real Key Bridge is much further up the Potomac.

It’s his friend....but not like he remembers....he’s weilding a mini-gun and is shooting up everything in sight.....as he gets up to say hi to his friend.....a earth shaking roar is heard....somehow a gigantic 2 story behemoth like man appeared.... and is picking up a bus...as monster does this he whom is still hiding ....realizes he’s still holding the strange watch....he shakes it...nothing happens...he turns some dials and presses some buttons... The Fallout US must have had some damn good anti-warhead defense for their CAPITAL to be still standing this good 200 years after a nuclear war. If they didnt, DC would just be a big crater.
@Croftice1
@Croftice1 3 жыл бұрын
Or alternatively it wasn't hit with all nukes in existence in the hands of China, just one nuke, like any other bigger city. Look at Fallout 4, a nuke hit Boston (well an area close to Boston) and your character even sees it with their own eyes, yet they live to tell about it. There is a "Crater of Atom" in the middle of the Glowing Sea (where the nuke hit), but it didn't level the whole area.
@AAllen-br8it
@AAllen-br8it 3 жыл бұрын
@@Croftice1 yeah, but that's not really how nuclear war works, especially in a setting like Fallout where the absurdity of us as a species mass producing hundreds of many different types of incredibly destructive bombs, I mean even IRL we've got some world shakers, is amped up to a comical degree. They probably have even MORE of the kind of weapons that can carpet the surface of our planet probably several times over. Plus, they sent 77 warheads at Las Vegas, they're defs going to send more at the capital. It makes way more sense that Fallout's US government had crazy advanced anti-warhead tech that made most nukes detonate in the sky (still horrible and apocalyptic, but at least monuments will remain standing), rather than these countries with an abundance of nukes just sending 1 lonesome bomb for each city when they've got 100 for every population center, military base and industrial sector and nothing to lose at this point. Also considering that everyone pre-war was quite obviously expecting a nuclear war, they were definitely developing and used sci-fi counter missile stuff for all Fallout cities to not be just empty craters.

I know! Fallout 4 would have been the perfect setup for playable flash backs. It was the first game with a pre war protagonist. They could have created pre war areas accessible via Memory Den to solve quests. At least they could have let the protagonist comment on certain places and ruins. I mean she/he knew the prewar world and still doesen't care at all when for example entering a frickin sky scraper ruin. They had everything needed to perfectly implement such things, they had a talking protagonist and the Memory Den. They simply missed the chance to make use of the game's potential.

@@gizzly50 Yeah, well they can't do so because your character is supposed to be in blank state but, you know what they should have ditched that thing completely and could have cues from Mass Effect and other BioWare RPGs properly and should have implemented your idea. Well, they tried to take cues from BioWare RPGs but fucked it up badly. Seriously, I wouldn't have mind playing as Nate/Nora rather than SS still doesn't really matter to me because I always name my male SS as Nate and female SS as Nora. And, I just roleplay by making my own fanfic while playing how they would have lived in pre War Boston.

Absolutely. I could very well imagine a fallout game set mostly pre war, maybe by means of playable flash backs. Fallout 4 missed a great oppertunity in this regard. An entire "pre war version" of Fallout 3 would also be cool. This could tell the story of how things came to be in Fallout 3 and maybe it would give replaying the original game afterwards a whole new nostalgic vibe.

The jump from fallout 2 to fallout 3 was quite crazy. They did a good job with 3, and then Vegas built upon it a bit. I feel like they kind of lost the plot after that. Looking back at the original fallout game, number 1, I feel it had a good story to remake it with new graphics, If I was Bethesda I would remake that game faithfully, but with good graphics.

That indeed would be awesome. I already thought about doing a trip to DC to look stuff from the game up. But I actually don't think that the game is that accurate. Also I think the proportions of the game are much smaller, especially the National Mall probably is bigger in real life.
