4:00 The actual “crafting” portion of the video starts here… Something he doesn’t mention in the video is how he actually acquired all the mods. He makes it sound like he’s only found the weapons off dropped enemies. You can save a TON of time waiting to find the mods by building the weapon/armor shops, then simply keep checking their inventories occasionally and eventually they will have weapons with the parts you want - especially if you manage to recruit the unique NPC traders who tend to carry the rarer items. Another thing he doesn’t mention is that by changing the receiver and stock models, you might change which combat perks their bonuses are affected by. Adding the longer stocks can actually change some pistols into a rifle, so they’ll no longer be affected by the gunslinger perk. Same with adding/removing automatic receivers, which will change wether a gun is affected by commando or gunslinger/rifleman. This is why you might notice a sudden drastic drop in damage outputs if you don’t have points in the proper related perks.

If you put asterisks ( * ) before and after your custom weapon names, it will place these items at the top of your inventory lists, then alphabetically. That way you don't have to search for your custom guns among others you've found in the world.

Your reasoning for why you would swap mods is unimportant. What I need to know is how. Can I disassemble a weapon so that I have all the mods available on my crafting bench? Or must I replace each one I remove with another mod? I tried to follow what you were saying but it did not match what I was seeing on the screen. I guess I will have to take all these hints and do some trial and error. Edit: I tried replacing a desired mod with a more basic mod and that indeed did work, but as far as I can tell the mod I wanted has disappeared. Have things changed in 6 years or am I still missing some important step? I will keep trying

After hours of gameplay I still don't understand how to repair or craft weapons and armor. It's needlessly complicated.

So instead of wasting like what, 13 perk points, you just take things to a workbench and mod everything to stock, which will then remove those mods. Now you get highest rank mods without spending perk points to get them. Downside, you just have to find the mods for the weapon you want to upgrade.
