Point of clarification: Obsidian is nowhere near defunct. They were acquired by Microsoft and are working on a big open world RPG called Avowed, due out this year.

One of the weirder fallout facts I recently learned is that Aradesh the founder, a character from the original fallout who also gets a card in these precons, is voiced by Tony Shalhoub, who is the actor that played the character of Adrian Monk on the detective TV show Monk, in addition to a multitude of other roles.

According to Tim Cain, the original idea behind the vault experiments was that they were to be useful for humanity's inevitable migration to other planets.

To correct Kathleen at 37:24 . Obsidian is still around they were part of the crpg revival with their Kickstarter for Pillars of Eternity. They made two of those, a rpg called Tyranny, which is all about playing the bad guy, for Paradox Interactive. Their latest game was an adventure game Pentiment about being a detective in 16th century Bavaria. They're currently working under Microsoft on Avowed which takes place in the same universe as Pillars of Eternity. They also tried to make their own legally distinct Fallout with Outer Worlds (not to be confused with the excellent Outer Wilds). The game however felt more like a proof of concept then an actual game.

I would love to see Graham go through the lore for all of the cards in the set! It's so nice to be transported back to the lore of the games through these cards.

I’d like to hear Graham talk more about the lore and cards in depth. Especially some of the face and backup commanders.

One of the references I liked was with Fraying Sanity, in which the webcomic Penny Arcade actually created their own vault and it's experiment. For missed themes, I kinda wish chems were depicted, but I understand wanting to stay away from drug use, even if the drugs are fictional.

I love fallout, have played them all, and knew this lore, and still want more of Graham telling me lore. Hearing someone legitimately interested in the universe talk about it is always nice.

I would really like a LRR stream or Let's play of the first two Fallouts. I've allways liked the idea of them, but never quite managed to get through them myself.

Easily missed aesthetic design detail: Inventory Management has the guns and weapons laid out in a circle around the player character, like the quick-keys or 'weapon wheel' in 3/NV/4.

I appreciate Fraying Sanity from a community perspective as that is a reference to an old Penny Arcade comic series which in turn got made canon in a series of memos in one of the more recent Fallouts and is now being referenced again as a magic card.

Thanks for bringing the fallout lore to the discussion around the precons. Power level and reprint value is secondary to the flavor for me.

5:27 to speak more to that point, I'm always shocked at how much of Fallout's music is just actually from the atomic age and not made for the game in that style. For example "Crawl Out through the Fallout", while admittedly being more of a novelty joke song, was written in 1960 and is so weirdly perfect for the series.

One meta card that I love is Ian. He is often the first companion you get in the first game. One thing about companions in FO1 is that they dont really consider anything but the enemy when shooting so you give him an automatic weapon and he shoots you constantly. Also 2/1 is a great statline for him because he cant really get stronger besides equipment

The fact that we did not get a Joshua Graham or Ulysses to go alongside Legate Lanius made me so sad. And that the only mention of Cazadors was the alt art of hornet queen as Subject 73 from Old World Blues. Still the overall flavor and playability of this set was amazing.

19:14 Graham, I don't blame you for mixing up the games because there is SO MUCH LORE, but Vault 87 is Fallout 3. This primarily sticks in my brain because when I first played 3 all those years ago, I was absolutely determined to discover EVERY location in that game, and approaching the outside entrance to 87 is lethal. But I finally did it thanks to many MANY RadAways being hotkeyed on the d-pad. I definitely died anyway, but it still felt great to do something so profoundly stupid.

Even if everything else about the set had been bad, the expansion symbol for the Fallout Universes Beyond set was 11/10.

Was honestly very surprised at the amount of references to fallout 76. I know its not well regarded but I love the game and was expecting them to try to sweep it under the rug and give it as few cards as possible.

Speaking of Fallout lore, I was *sooooo* dissapointed when they put Boone in the Ceasars Legion deck, and not the Scrappy Survivors deck.

OK so what we would like is a Fallout Lore Podcast from Graham and a Warhammer 40K Lore from Cameron as in both of these instances these are people that have a love of the universe these games are based in

It's actually surprising hearing someone talking so positive about the Fallout crossover. For some reason, out of every universe's Beyond product we have received in the past, I've noticed Fallout fans are the most vocal when it comes to any minor flavor fails or notable characters not being portrayed 100% accurately. I mean, there's only so much you can do to fit it into the established game of Magic the Gathering as it is, but I would not call this crossover a fail despite being tired of universes beyond.

I honestly felt like the big factions of FO4 were really underbaked, from the perspective of creating moral quandries. You've got slavers who deny the personhood of a group of people that the game never truly tries to convince you shouldn't be considered people, a group of colonists that want to GENOCIDE those same people, and then the underground movement working to free the slaves from the first group and a militia of people who are mostly interested in creating a safe place for everyone, but have no strong feelings on these slaves (but NORMAL slaves are definitely a no-go for them). And the last two groups can be convinced to work together with minimal effort. It was never a question for me on any level

The Sscret Lair cards definitely feel the most "cash-grabby" which is probably why they largely switched to making them reskins over mechanically unique cards. But the sets, and especially the Commander decks: the care put into them cannot be denied. That was what eventually sold me on UB.

Pillars of Eternity 2 is really good, speaking of Obsidian.

76 is a pretty solid game, but once you finish the story there isn't much to do with it being online but build a camp - great if you ever wanted to co-op a fallout game, though

obsidian have a game in the vibe of the Elder Scrolls coming out "Soon"TM called Avowed that looks pretty interesting so not at all near defunct
