Gen I was so janky, my favorite anecdote is Focus Energy dividing, instead of multiplying, the Critical hit ratio by 4.

It actually removed the boost it was supposed to give, meaning every pokémon had 1 crit boost by default.

I learned this now lol, I always wondered why that move never seemed to help as a kid

It's supposed to work as intended on Pokemon Stadium though but yeah, it's fairly useless now (could probably pull Super Luck/Scope Lens shenanigans with it but would be a bit gimmicky) and even more-so in gen 1. Also, gen 1 crits ignore your own boosts too so you could be at +6 and Slash would still do the same damage as at -6 (pretty much always crits unless the user's super slow because gen 1 crits are based on the user's Speed).

@BurnRoddy5 жыл бұрын
@@Y-all-mofos-need-Talos At the time I'd say you're correct but over time I'd argue that was Gen III. The only ''Kings'' from Gen I that were effectively killed off in the meta were those whose only advantage was their speed. Besides breeding and held items, Gen II was more like the ultimate upgrade to Gen I. Gen III made trading with the previous generation impossible. A lot of things were introduced or changed in Gen II but its still kind of a massive upgrade of Gen I with only minor set backs like reworking the TM's and the Special Split affected the way crits work in the game nerfing some OP pkmn, but solved some major issues from the first game like fixing the Ghost/Psychic problem with Shadow Ball, improved on the gameplay by taking full advantage of the Friendship system itroduced in Yellow. On top of that you could trade with Gen II so whatever random effect the Special split would do to your Gen I pkmn and your battle strategy was easily verifiable when trading. What really changed the game's meta was the introduction of abilities which gave the pkmn unique properties during battle, natures which rendered some pokemon useless and others OP deppending on their stats and battle strategy and much stronger than even the Shiny pkmn in Gen II, but above all double battles which gave a whole new dimension to the competitive battle scene. Finally the thing for which all gamers complained, the core engine was completely redesigned from scratch and you couldn't trade with the previous Gen.

I do wish Hyper Beam and its different variations gain back the "no recharge if it knocks something out" mechanic in the next gen. Just imagine the possibilities: Blast Burn Mega Zard-Y Hyper Beam Mega Gardevoir Giga Impact Pinsir Hydro Cannon Blastoise (Does Mega Launcher even boost Hydro Cannon?)
@necro53635 жыл бұрын
Mega Launcher boosts Aura or Pulse moves so no.
@Dragrath15 жыл бұрын
Yeah given how useless the moves are it would be a great boon to bring back the high risk high reward element. Mega wise there would also be Pidgeot, Altaria and Glalie that could benefit from access to these moves with that recharge skip mechanic as they either lack good special stab options or have a normal conversion attack bonus. That said it would have more potential than just megas as the added boost would make them more viable for Z Move Nukes Dialga would gain a potentially brutal tool in Ubers with its signature move actually being potentially viable as it would grant a 200 base power devastating Drake and could be used afterwards with prediction which might in some cases make it a better choice over Draco Meteor. And Hyper Beam could offer a nasty surprise kill for PorygonZ running Normalium Z for Z Conversion a 400 Base Power move off of 135 Special Attack would allow for some interesting trade offs while not being dead weight otherwise when you aren't using the Z variant. It certainly wouldn't be as dominating as gen 1 but it would be nice to make the moves somewhat viable again...

@ShiningJudgment6664 жыл бұрын
Tangela was massively outclassed by Exeggutor (only getting Swords Dance to boost its weak attack stat but I guess ParaBind that resists EQ is a narrow niche but Victreebell can do it better since it gets Wrap through its pre-evolutions). Onix was also white hot garbage. Massive base defense (second highest in Gen 1 only behind Cloyster) ruined by a horrendous HP stat and an awkward speed tier that it can't take advantage of. Graveller was better in UU due to having some offensive presence and still it countered UU's electrics while Rhydon and Golem, well, they're just far superior.
