You failed to mention the best tauros check: cloyster. Frequently seen in OU, cloyster had monsterous defense and 4x resistance to blizzard and could hit back with poweful blizzards itself.

@Magnus Von Braun Still the point stands. Anything that can wall Tauros is a threat. Still, Tauros could paralyze it. One of the things he failed to mention that boosts normal types further is they couldn't be paralyzed by body slam, making them much more effective tanks.

Cloyster is pretty niche though. It checks Snorlax and Tauros well although Slowbro performs the same. Its mostly known to clamp things

RBY Mewtwo is the most broken Pokemon in existence until Mega Rayquaza appeared in Gen 6.

I think Mewtwo got dethroned in Gen 3 with Kyogre and from Gen 4 to XY you could argue Kyogre, Arceus,or Xerneas being King during these times.
@SeriousStriker
@SeriousStriker 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah but nothing is literally as good as what Mewtwo was in RBY. Even the later threats such as DPPt Kyogre and E-Killer Arceus. Mega Rayquaza is the exception to that rule as it crafted a whole new tier made for it.

You can at least counter Mega Rayquaza in some way, it is at the moment the strongest Pokemon, but it is by no means unbeatable. On the other hand Mewtwo in Gen 1 was complelty out of this league because it had no counters back then thanks to the limited amount of Pokemon that could even withstand an attack , and we are not even talking about killing it, just surviving one attack.
@SeriousStriker
@SeriousStriker 7 жыл бұрын
Mega Rayquaza having counters is very arguable. Nothing can switch in on it at +1 with Life Orb except for Lugia with Multiscale on tact.

Which of those Pokémon are still good? Obviously Mew and Metwto, and, unfortunately, Chansey. Rhydon with Eviolite and Lightningrod is also an interesting choice in Doubles. Alakazam with Magic Guard is pretty good, but it unfortunately has to rely on Focus Blast. And, of course, Starmie is still one of the few good Rapid Spinners available.

I actually really like to use tauros in doubles, and let your teammate hit it with a multi hit move with skill link ability (cloyster with the move spike cannon) while tauros uses rage. this gives him +5 attack, and if you can set it up so he is protected a bit, then he can sweep with good speed and the moves EQ, RS (both hits multiple opponents) and return. Another way to get him to +6 is with him having anger point, and your second pokemon hits him with Frost Breath (although it is less good now that it's base is changed from 40 power to 60). however most pokemon that can use that move have a to high sp. att. stat (while still being viable) to make use of it (from what I know at least). However I mostly just like to use random and unexpected things so I don't claim any of this is extremely good.

@ Thomas What are you talking about? Mewtwo's megas are amazing in Ubers. And Mega-Alakazam can be seen on Lele teams since it's boosted by the terrain and stops priority. Snorlax is amazing in VGC and one of the most, if not the most, used set-up mons. Zapdos was UU for a while in ORAS. Other than that I think you're right, especially about Mew which I feel is used too one-sidedly

Out of the seven main threats, the one who is most relevant would be Chansey, a pink wall of suffering especially if your physical attackers have been hindered. I would then say Starmie but with creatures like Tapu Koko and Bulu running amok and Tapu Fini taking its main job as a all-around useful Water types, the starfish is likely still in UU. For honorable mentions, funnily enough Zapdos is the one rising to the occasion being able to handle the many Steel types and Ground types of OU with Heat Wave and Hidden Power Ice while having solid stats to be able to dish and take damage.

Pretty much this: Gen 1: Hyper Beam + Body Slam + Blizzard Gen 2: Take Down + Fire Blast The arrival of steel types and the special split limited Tauros to a late game physical sweeper. A good one to be sure, but with Steel types in the meta, and its Special Def taking a hit (not to mention Fighting types being around now) made it very hard for the raging bull to do its job. It was BARELY OU in Gen 2; other pokemon simply did its job better.

Amazing overview of the full ''competitive'' metagame side of gen 1. Bit unhappy on how you glanced over the trade offs between Rhydon and Golem as golem has explosion which is amazing utility overall and gives major adavantage the longer the match takes as it's only answeres to the regular stabs are easily worn while it itself is as well. Rhydon has as you said more attack but also Body Slam which golem did not, this ment it had a way of paralyzing answeres such as starmie down with a chance to use substitude the next time and actually manage to KO it. To be honest I did really love to see you do this kind of overview on gen 2, as it has a compairable structure but a wider cast of pokemon that were used in OU. The older generations may get the speculated love of nostalgia, but I did much more love to see an actuall analysis/overview for the people who have not returned back to these generations.

What about Dragonite? He can bolt beam and not to mention OP Wrap.

Ice attacks are literally everywhere and a decent special ice beam basically kills it in one shot. Strong, but most the top threats deal with it too easily for it to make a very strong showing.

FruityMyPebbles Dragonite didn't shine until gen iv when it finally had access to Dragon claw/outrage

Actually, no Dragonite didn't find its lease on life until Gen 5 with its Hidden Ability Multiscale. Before that, you'd have been better off using a Salamence. It only got usage in Gen 4 thanks to Garchomp and Mence getting the banhammer.

DrCoeloCephalo Even though ir was overshadowed by the two dragpns being banished to Über, it was a really solid pick on it's own, boasting great bulk with a high attack stat, making it a good outrage scarfer. (That said I only played gen iv battle frontier, not online competitive)
@DrCoeloCephalo

In Gen 4, it also faced competition with Gyarados for Dragon Dance because it could force more switches/gain more momentum due to Intimidate. The main selling point Nite had was a usable Special Attack letting it go somewhat mixed. It was still good in OU at least.

Starmie was and still is a beast. If I ever played through one of the games again, I would definitely want it as my Water type.

I actually don't like Starmie as much just because its cock blocked easily by Chansey. I prefer Slowbro only cuz it at least has a chance to break thru Non-Light Screen Chansey

I'm curious to see how the 3 first Eevee-loutions did in competitive. Maybe also the Nidoking and Nidoqueen duo. :)

Starmie is still the best out of all those mentioned not in uber tier. Her versatility and offensive capabilities are insane combined with access to rapid spin makes her arguably the best OU of all time

Starmie has been the most consistent but wether it is the best is arguable. Starmie has been becoming less effective due to the power cap this gen so I don't know how good it will be.

starmie is not that versatile, it's defenses are pretty bad, and really the only niche it has over other pokemon is rapid spin. Sure it has great speed and move pool but its roles are mostly outclassed by other mons. Its not even ou anymore i believe

Do you plan on covering each generation beyond gen 1? I'd definitely like to see that. Also out of all of them, Chansey stands out the most to me as still being powerful in the modern games.

I love these videos so much you don't even know Of course some of these are still really good, Gengar for example is even better than it was back then, and Snorlax is underrated, can still setup and just 6-0
@necrobonesgaming2424
@necrobonesgaming2424 6 жыл бұрын
Snorlax has many checks/counters like Slowbro/king (Dragon Tail and can live boosted hits), Doublade (beats Curse ResTalk Snorlax and checks Curse Recycle Snorlax), Milotic/Mantine (can live any boosted hit, Haze to stat reset, and then Recover, and can burn with Scald or put it on a timer with Toxic, Registeel beats Curse Recycle Snorlax 1v1 by leading with Toxic and then spamming Seismic Toss and Resting if necessary, anything that can steal boosts (as rare a niche as that is), and a few others. It's not a 6-0 'mon. It's there to clean up once the opponent's checks and counters are weakened enough or taken out. (can also be used as a CB wallbreaker but we don't talk about that set ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) )

Honorable mention goes out to Cloyster as a phys wall with ice stab, persian with insane slash crits (99.6% crit ratio + stab), jolteon as the best electric sweeper next to zapdos and the super early game available fearow with high crit drill peck,double edge and hyper beam stabs. ALso kanghaskan is pretty great too.

Kanghaskan is outclassed bad by Tauros though. It does very well in UU though.
