Of course Anne Gwish is a recurring character, she's the personification of his fan base (or at least the worst parts of it). The only bad part of being a creator is you can't control who likes your stuff; you have to take the good with the very, very bad and be grateful that anyone likes it. But you are still free to skewer the people who claim to be fans who "get" your work when they very much do not. At this point, the stuff just writes itself.

I think the lesson to be learned from Anne Gwish, specifically the fact that she always gets away with her shit, is that while it's fun to imagine killing the people who annoy you, more often it's better to ignore them and let them do their thing.

I have the director cut of the comic's which i felt slightly disappointed that they didn't have some of the stories in that, granted they might show their age cause they had current movie references (like batman and robin jokes) but i would still of liked to see um

Well, in a story arc, Johnny, of course, dies. Going to heaven and causing mayhem (though not all his fault), he's sent to hell. After touring the place a bit (even running into some past victims) The Devil, or Senor Satan as he prefers to be called, sends Johnny back to the real world, almost completely bald (hence why sometimes you see him with those weird antennae things, it's his hair). So no one really knows, not even Johnny, I just presume he's a character who can do what he wants.

Oh, JTHM. I remember being so into you in my middle school/high school years. Then college hit and I grew up. Now I cringe everytime I look through you. I do agree with your sentiments, though. Even though I think things like the "goth subculture" is inherently pretentious in many ways, people like Anne just make it even worse.

Yep thats my reaction to it too when my friend shown it to me. I thought she was crazy but then I saw Lenore the cute little undead girl. Which compare to that its a tie between the two. And I got used to the graphic novel and all of it's violence.

Oh my god Anne Gwish is literally the personification J.V's fanbase. Goth people who never grew out of their emo preteen phase and are so cringey it makes reading any of J.V's work unironically feel like a sin. The 16 year old girls who wear those 'normal people scare me' t-shirts, the douchebag guys who listen to screamo on full blast without headphones in the high school cafeteria, and the 20 something year old guy who smells like old pizza and obsesses over goth girls to the point of it being creepy. Not to say all of his fans are like that, but the overwhelming majority of them are.

Good summary vid. Don't give Vasquez all the credit for Invader Zim though--the reason that show was great was because of the artists who put in an illegal number of work hours to make something special. And then Vasquez got them all fired because he pissed off his bosses.

She reminds me soo much of the female characters in the Writhe and Shine webcomics series...and MANY Goths in the Chicago scene...and...I HATE MIRACLE WHIP!
