seems to me that this was a failed murder/suicide whereas he failed at the suicide but succeeded at murder. what a horrific way for those poor children to die.

I feel bad for Delisle's mother. She had just lost her husband to suicide, then she lost all four of her grandchildren to murder in one shot, and her son went to prison for life for murder.

The O.G. of psychological analysis, Dr. G! Thank you! You said everything that caught my attention. Especially rubbing his leg as a set up for the event. He didn't have a leg cramp, purposely steering between the poles to go into the water, taking that route. They went there the day before because he was scoping it out to see what he could do. Then he got the layout and mental picture in his head so the next night he could just make his turn and go barreling down the road to his mark between the poles and into the water. He prob intended for his wife to survive and the kids to drown and she would corroborate the leg cramp and having to pull his foot off the gas and he fig it would be ruled a tragic accident and he and his wife would live happily ( in his mind ) ever after, just the two of them. That's exactly what happened too. Except that the police didn't buy his story. What surprises me is the fact that the wife knew that he had told police he intentionally accelerated quickly and was going to slam on the brakes at the last minute to scare her but she still testified on his behalf. I mean, doing that would have terrified the children. Plus, jarring them around like that. They could have been badly hurt and who the heck tries to terrify their wife that their car is gonna wreck with their babies inside. He's twisted! You can see the b.s. in that story. Conveniently, at the time he decides to terrify her, with the brakes being an integral part of the scare, they just happen to not work and simultaneously the accelerator sticks. How can she not see that he premeditated the murder of their children. Clearly I do agree with you Dr. G. I feel that he is guilty of premeditated first degree murder beyond a reasonable doubt. Thx Dr. Grande! ❤ Oh, one last thing... Did either one of them even attempt to save any of their children at all?? Just asking because they both lived and between the two of them they couldn't get even one of their children out? Where were they when police got to the scene because you couldn't force me out of the water if my babies were trapped in a sinking car. Especially without emergency crews there yet trying to help. Just wondering.

I’m from Wyandotte, mi… i remember when this happened … we used to go south to monroe to drink .. we were cominghome outta monroe back to Wyandotte via Jefferson road north… we see all these cops and ambulance lights… we get out at McDonald’s and walk over to field when all these camera vans are .. this camera man comes flying into the van and we go look into the back windows . He puts in a video tape and we see them pulling kids body’s out of the water,a couple upside down by feet.. never will forget this ..we got ushered away by cops just after seeing this… was the “ biggest story of our town” we were just outta high school about a year.

I lived right down the street off of Biddle and North Dr. Wyandotte Mi. On that day I was working at Weyand s Fisheries on Biddle literally 2 blocks away during the incident. It was bone chilling when we all learned what happened that fateful day. Could not understand or comprehend why he did that 😢

I get almost debilitating cramps in my legs, on & off for over a decade. So bad that it takes my breath away, it can take a long time for it to subside & sometimes they're so intense that my muscles are sore for days afterwards. When I was pregnant, the leg cramps would be so bad that my ex would have to yard me off the bed by my leg just to help my stand up fast enough to try to walk it off. With all that said, even when I get leg cramps while driving, I have never ever had it impair my driving. I also have a narcissistic mother who used to regularly threaten to crash the van she was driving into a wall or barrier while we were passengers. It was way too normal to make peace with the fact we might meet our maker while she careened out of control. Thankfully she was a wuss when it came to pain. So glad I'm estranged from that woman now.

Perks of driving with a manual transmission: you could technically still end up in a river, but it would be much more difficult to accomplish. For example, if the accelerator became stuck somehow, both the driver and the front-seat passenger could throw the car out of gear by pulling the gearshift. Plus the driver could not accelerate indefinitely without clutching and shifting gears.

How could he live with himself, killing all 4 of his children, even if it was a mistake? He is a monster in my book. He kills his whole family in sits in jail the rest of his life, rather than raise his kids? WOW

I've said it before, I'll say it again: It's AWESOME that doc breaks down Guilt in Actuality and Guilt Beyond a Reasonable Doubt. He even went a step further here and pointed out that not only did the judge have second thoughts...but Dr. G. himself did not feel like this guy got a fair trial. Many ppl may be of the opinion that 4children are dead and so what does it matter. But this is 1 of the Main principles our nation was founded upon AND certainly is a defining characteristic of a civilized society.

I had a 1967 ford fairlane and once the engine mount broke. I drove it like that for a few weeks. If i pushed the accelerator too far when starting from a stop, the accelerator would get pulled to the floor as the engine shifted, pulling the linkage until we got up to a certain speed and the torque on the engine decreased. But i don't really think that is what happened here. Seems like he wanted to go into the river

Where he grew up, lived and worked were lower income/ lower education areas. They should have practiced family planning. I think he was depressed and realized he was never going to get ahead. His whole existence was working long hours and financially supporting a family. Taylor housewives weren't known for homemaking skills. We had a mid 70's Ford station wagon and pulled a Colman pop-up camper all over the USA. They were known to be safe family cars.

I think he married too young, had too many children too soon combined with heavy debt and boredom. He may have been depressed and suicidal. So he decided to end it in a moment of irrationality but when the car hit the water his desire to live kicked in so he did. He's guilty of killing his children.

I think a parents responsibility is to protect their kids no matter what. If he was unhappy he could have gotten a divorce. I know it’s easier said than done but in no way should kids be punished. So sad. If I was an accident, shouldn’t he had jumped at trying to rescue his drowning kids? That’s the part that bothers me.

I would rather die trying to get my kids out of a sinking car than live with the guilt of surviving.

I think it's also possible that he got a leg cramp that may have caused him to stomp the accelerator momentarily, at which time he realized he could grab the opportunity to rid himself of some of his baggage so he followed through, thinking that he could expand the leg cramp-accelerator story to explain the entire event. And, get off. Or, maybe, as bizarre as it was, there was a confluence of improbable events that became a tragedy. Who knows!

I can understand his stress and feelings of hopelessness. It is a tragedy the children were the ones to pay the price. I will never understand why people do this to themselves, having children, or having multiple children, when the financial and emotional strain is overwhelming.

I do not drive, but when I did I used to always check the amount of space to the right of the gas pedal in case my leg locked up. Any person that gets severe leg cramps knows what happened in this case. Severe leg cramps are not little 'charlie horse cramps. Your leg becomes totally locked and you get a very strong awareness of the locked muscle, not really pain but intense awareness, which supersedes anything else that might be on your mind. My opinion is that it has something to do with calcium, but whatever it is the locked muscles are easily reproducible and observable which should be tested with this individual. Give him a lot of calcium for one week, then no calcium the next week, and he will spend at least a few days incapacitated. Edit to add A funny story. Years ago I was driving a cab. At some point another driver drove up beside my cab and said 'call the police, you tripped an alarm' or something like that. The cab had an alarm system that was triggered by a small button to the right of the gas pedal. When I had straightened my leg a short while before I moved my right leg to the right of the pedal and tripped the alarm. The company I leased the can from never told me about the alarm but that incident surely generated some paperwork around roughly the late 90s or early 2000s. In fact if you go through the records of cab companies that have that kind of alarm you will probably find there are a number of people with that problem. I know exactly how he moved after his leg locked up, he moved his backside up and tried to straighten his leg, but if he was not used to that issue he would have had to almost stand up to get his foot off the gas. And there is a sort of panicky sensation that prevents a person from bending/contracting the leg so that is not an easy option regardless what people think. One more edit Dr Grande recites items from the interrogation without providing the actual video of the interrogation. I'm sure Dr Grande understands his mistake but it should be pointed out for others. A person can watch the Melissa Lucio interrogation, for example, which is on KZfaq, or study any of thousands of other similar ones which are described by people present or audio recorded. Police generally avoid video taping interrogations for just that reason since if you don't let people see how you get the suspect to say something you can pretty much get anybody to confess to anything. Brown v. Mississippi, (1936) made getting confessions by torture illegal in the U.S. but there are many other psychological techniques, such as the Reid technique, which reliably get confessions regardless of guilt or innocence.

People with "demons inside of themselves" always seem to hurt others

I had an experience with an 2002 Nissan Altima. I did have the accelerator get stuck to the floor for a few moments and had to push the brake with both feet for the car to stop. That was awfully scary. It only happened one time thank god.

I always hear stories like this, or about house fires where the adults get out, but the children don't. I don't know if it's the mother in me, but if my children didn't survive, would I want to? I think he did it but I also think the wife might have played a part too. I questioned why they didn't try to get the kids out. Neither parent did and when a boat found them they didn't say " please help me my children are inside!" He didn't go back for them. I then thought back to them going to the drug store I thought " what if they drugged the kids so they couldn't get out?" Which means the wife would have knowledge too. I wonder if they got them Phenergan which I think ( quote me if wrong ) is used to calm kids down and he did say the kids was crying. I bet they didn't do a toxicology on the children, not back then. Though, I wonder if they tried to find what he got from the pharmacy..... Idk maybe I'm wrong but I do think he's guilty and I feel like she is too....

I believe that he was probably guilty but there is plenty of room for reasonable doubt. That is primarily based on the tests on the accelerator linkage and plates which backs up his story and his wife's about lifting his foot off the pedal. Of course, he could have known of the accelerator problem and used that as an excuse. There was no indication of prior behavior which would have pointed to the incident. There were many flaws in his trial such that he should have been granted a retrial.

Leg cramps are from either low potassium or low magnesium. Keeping a little bottle of potassium iodide and magnesium Threonate capsules can be very helpful, I know!

Too difficult to make a right turn? Other than sitting in park, making a right turn is the easiest and safest thing you can do with a car. Its so safe and easy you can even legally do it during a red light in most situations. Its safer than driving in a straight line.
