As a lefty, I have to say its always nice to see a fellow southpaw running a bolt action like it owes him money. Even with a very finicky action he made it look good.

There are a lot of videos that show that. Go look at the MAG's Delisle video where he's shooting at like 100yds and you can hear the gun fire then the metal plate. And other videos around the youtube. Don't know the dB level but it sounds quieter than my 10/22 silent-sr.

A lot of GunTubers will shoot a couple _at_ the berm to demonstrate (ex: IV8888).

@@flavioflubber183 Thanks man, and rad he was. He was a rare breed, an outdoorsman scientist. He studied polar bears for a living. He went on crazy adventures. One time, he was in an isolated arctic environment. When you do that, you have two sheds: one for sleeping, one for cooking. The logic being that if the cooking shed burns down, you'll have shelter for the three months until the next supply plane, which would evac you if it came to that. It was him and his research assistant, Tim. Now, when you're up north like that, you've got a lot of spare time. Dad was a little worried about starving polar bears, so he carried a .41 mag revolver on his hip, just in case. You need some stopping power for an animal that size. He practiced his quick-draw on tin cans. Tim saw him practicing. Also worth mentioning: polar bears make a snorting sound when they've decided to kill you. This will become relevant shortly. One day, they needed to grab a gull sample. Tim spotted a gull, and raised his shotgun. Just birdshot mind you (don't want to ruin the specimen, so smaller balls are better.) He lead the gull, as one does, but didn't check his background. He accidentally pulled the trigger just as the sight passed over my Dad, who was further down the beach. Dad's the only person I know who ever saw a shotgun blast coming at him and lived to tell of it. He says it's a tiny little ball of fire that gets really big, then really small, really quick. He said it sounded like a swarm of bees as the pellets zipped by him and whipped into the sand. Tim felt really bad about that. The next day, it was Dad's turn to cook, so he got up and went to the cooking shed. Tim, still feeling bad, figured he'd try to made amends by taking over the cooking duties. So, he put on his plaid parka, and went to the cooking shed. It was cold (it's the Arctic) so as he entered the cooking shed, he did that "brrrr!" sound that people make when they're cold. It sounded like that polar bear "I'm gonna kill you now" snort. Tim saw my Dad's hand drop to his .41. He'd seen my Dad practice, and he figured he was experiencing the last few milliseconds of his life. If Tim had been wearing white, this would be a story about my Dad's time in prison, but it was plaid, so Dad held fire. I have a few stories like that to remember him by, and his grandchildren think they're cool. Rest in peace, Dad. You were fucking epic.

Ian is a historian first and foremost, and takes that title seriously. I have a feeling that if invited to dinner Ian would bring a fitted case holding a few nice parlor pistols for some after dinner plinking.

You can't really tell from a video though, since most cameras will normalize the sound level, making almost everything similarly loud - and of course everyone listens to it with different speakers/headphones at a different volume.

The De Lisle has been in games before FNV, like Medal of Honor Allied Assault, and Josh Sawyer, the lead developer on FNV, is a gun enthusiast. They probably knew about this gun and didn't include it because it's a rare British gun and it wouldn't make much sense for it to be in Utah. Also, it's a bolt-action firing pistol bullets; it's not very strong if it is portrayed realistically. The M1911 (and therefore .45 ACP) was included in Honest Hearts because it was John Moses Browning's most famous design, and as a Mormon, Browning was idolized by Joshua Graham.

I just finished Honest Hearts the other day and it was my favorite DLC by far

​@@Ishmaille Meanwhile fallout 4 tried too hard to be all original, the few guns that weren't were the snubnose magnum, submachine gun, and deliverer. Instead we got all stupid looking guns, that look unpleasant to shoot, or like the assault rifle which looks more like a light machine gun than a assault rifle. I prefer fallout nv's guns, and the survivalist rifle is probably my favorite in the entire game, since it tells a story on its own. The lower ammo capacity is probably because the gun is converted from military to civilian. Its badly damaged with makeshift repairs, and has the word stop in french and english on the stock (probably because he was a soldier and since Canadians have French and English speakers it makes sense to have his gun also act as a makeshift sign) This isn't the only weapon to do this in fallout nv, but I really loved the detail they put into it.

In this video he is obviously more concerned about other issue than sight picture. Namely did the gun, notoriously known to not cycle, cycle.

It's impossible to judge how loud guns are without replicating real sound levels that the gun makes, just recording the sound needs a very specific setup that is not really usable to anything else. Ian misses one shot but even that noise was amplified by camera to an absurd degree. The best indicator on how quiet this gun is Ian taking out his hearing protection.

I would guess that as the makers got the specs for the gun, it would be a direct copy of the original DeLisle including the suppressor. Lots of wipes and baffles in there. I believe (might be wrong) that the suppressor is a scaled up version of the Welrod's

It's a full re-production of the original. Uses split top baffles at the front (8-14 depending on the maker) and a diffuser shroud over a ported barrel. Unlike the Welrod it does not use wipes and so the suppression level is consistent in use.

On the contrary, it's a good thing. Cameras compress sound (bring loud and quiet sounds closer together). When people shoot guns at steel on camera normally, the gun report forces the camera to "duck" the level a lot, and it doesn't have time to rebound to normal sensitivity at the moment of steel "ping". The ping, then, is quiet. As well as the shot, which should have been completely clipping. You can only hear the echo of the gunshot at normal loudness. With well-suppressed firearms, the difference in loudness of the "ping" is substantial. Since the best suppressed guns trigger the compressor much less, the ping is almost full-volume. Other sounds that accompany a shot also become audible, such as ricochets whizzing, the early reflections (echo), and cycling/ejection sounds on autos. But otherwise, if there wasn't a "ping" to compare, a shot itself would just sound different, and not quieter, on camera.

If the only thing you're hearing is the bullet hitting the plate, it's clearly a sign that the suppressor is doing its job well. Not that hard to figure that out.
