A wonderful demonstration of how individuals with dementia thrive in enriching environments. Doesn't matter what is remembered on their part. The experience and human interaction is the key. What a wonderful family. Thank you for what you are doing. ❤❤❤

At this point in time, he is living a great life. The only sadness is he can't remember it and cherish the clear love his kids have for him and his wife. His problem protects him from so much at this stage. With loving protection, he is having a great life. His biggest worry in life is his car keys, and he doesn't even need them. There are people his age who DO remember they have only eaten scraps for a month, that worry about paying rent, or having money for heating through a hard winter. Much of life, people spoil in just negative thinking. Of seeing everything as a tragedy, when so far, Ed's life is blessed. He is cradled by loving family, well fed, every need looked after. And his biggest worry is his car keys, aged over 90. I can think of 50 old people who would swap in a heartbeat. If you want to dwell on everything as a tragedy, your life will be needlessly miserable - and nobody will seek your company. Any chance you can laugh, giggle or grin, in kindness, is a great life lived He can have 100 great thrills in life, daily and they fade, to be replaced. He can be told every day, that his favorite movie star is a personal friend and coming over for a beer, that he is a multi millionaire, that he was once pursued by Marilyn Monroe. Whilst those names mean anything, he will be excited, happy, intrigued. Tomorrow, no memory, no disappointment. You can invent joy for these people and NEVER see their faces disappointed. People appear to think looking sad and patting his hand and wiping tears away will make his life happy? He's going off to put on his best clothes to meet his old girlfriend, Racquel Welch - and in a half hour, when you check on him, he might have happily decided it was time to go to bed and changed into pyjamas and gone to sleep. And Racquel can come over tomorrow. She has nothing better to do... Fill life with joy and laughter

Dan , thank you so much to show us how to enjoy a family time with your Dad . Also you are retired at 55. You obviously doing very well looks like most or all of your siblings as well. Ed and your mom did a very good job to raise their kids together or divorced. It’s just very inspiring to see it can all work very well. And if you smart enough can enjoy your family in early retirement. Well done! Thank you for showing!!!

JP- I guess you don't realize that Dan had to start the retirement process early due to his heart issues and stressful career, not because he was rolling in money. They created their channels to help caregivers and family members learn more about dementia and also to hopefully supplement their income.

@@BoardwalkAngel231And they deserve everything they earn from the channel, bring them even more because it’s a good message also! But just out of curiosity, how much can they bring in on a channel Like this? Havnt seen any ads except in the start of the video like everyone.

All I was saying is “Good job! “ He is still smart , otherwise he wouldn’t be able to keep his lifestyle. You don’t need to be crazy wealthy to retire early. Just money smart 😉

@@AMGWCLass those ads add up they are making a good bit.. probably even better then when he was working. i know ppl that started youtube and was working also ans they quit work cuz youtube was the better of them and decided to upload eveeyday n also if they are on facebook to that really brings in the money

It's a credit to you, Danielle and Mark that Dad isn't obese, lol. Must take alot of patience, observation, communication and reasoning to not cave in and simply overfeed Dad. There are so many layers to the wonderful care you guys are bestowing upon him.. and I just really want you to know that so many of us notice those wonderful and loving things ✨️

Yes, that's probably one of the reasons that he's so Mobile. He also seems to get consistent exercise. Too many people don't seem to understand that if he gets food every time he doesn't remember eating, weight gain can lead to high cholesterol and blood pressure.

This is what I was thinking. Must be hard. I can see forgetting you are but not sure why you would think you were hungry. Either way you all do such a great job with him and he is in great shape.

I think ED was always a {physically fit} kinda fellow, never {allowed} himself to become {overweight} which carried on into his {elder}years, he {conditioned} his body to a certain amount of food intake. My mom did the same, plus can an {elderly} person really become {obese} in their 80’s or 90’s??

Sweet Child of Mine!!! It was driving me crazy. . . I was like, "I know that tune, but I can't place it." It finally came to me. I was so impressed when I saw Dan "playing" the piano. I was said to myself, "Wow, he's a good son, a good caregiver, he's smart, practices law and he plays the piano on top of it!" LOL! Oh well. Two out of three ain't bad. Anyway, so glad Dad had a nice day. I'll bet he loves to hear the music. Dementia patients love music. Got to start playing some old music from the 1940s for him. I'm sure he would enjoy that. Your Dad reminds me so much of my Dad. They were born the same year.

You have a beautiful family, and you all take great care of your dad. I used to work in a closed unit at a nursing home, and the gentlemen were always looking for their keys and wallet and the ladies their purses and keys to go home. I would tell them that there was a big storm and that it wasn't safe to drive, so they had to stay the night They would ask many times until they went to bed. You all do a great job reminding him of where he is and what gives him security. God Bless you.
