Welcome to our channel! I am a blind mom of two who loves to share inspiration, joy, creativity, and the reality of growth through the struggle, and through supporting one another. Join our family (missing Katie, who is with her dad right now), for a day at an area mall and Figgy and I at The Container Store (my FAVORITE and a total guilty pleasure!). You'll see my hubs, Devin, youngest daughter, Evie, and of course, my guide dog, Figaro, as we navigate a mall we don't usually visit, and take more escalators in one day than we typically take in a month! It seems a LOT of malls are going to a primarily escalator-based environment, with minimal elevators. We can navigate this, but for us, and for many others with disabilities, elevators can be far more convenient, and often times crucial to navigating multiple levels of a shopping center. You don't see his rear feet in many frames, but Figaro had his rear Ruffwear GripTrex boots on for safety on the escalators for the duration of this shopping trip since we encountered SO MANY escalators.
For any who are new to our channel or who do not follow our story on Instagram, at one point in the video Evie refers to "Llama". We four sheets and pillowcases with llamas all over them. Llama is a Guide Dogs for the Blind Puppy in Training being raised by a close friend of ours, and the woman who raised my first guide dog, Picassa. Overtime Evie sees something with llamas she says we should send it to Llama!

It is definitely freezing here in Minnesota. My lab hates to go outside right now to go to the bathroom she will sit at the top of our stairs and wine. It was so funny when I finally got her to come down the steps and go to the bathroom all of the snow has turned to ice in our backyard so my Australian Shepherd will run up to her and knock her over.

LOL. Oh my gosh, poor labby! 😂 kind of sounds like Fig and Cassa though! He’s still somewhat puppy-ish and when it warms up at all he’ll go bounding through the yard. Picassa either does her business or stands there supervising the place... and he’ll run right into her like, “PLAY WITH ME OLD LADY!” 😂. When it’s THIS cold though they go out and get the business done and come in right away. Sometimes, they won’t even go out like last relief of the night they look at me like... “Would YOU like to go pee out there?! Didn’t think so!” 😂😂😂

What kind of treats do you give your dog? I was introduced to the idea of a support dog at Hines Center for the Blind and Vision Impaired.

Figaro’s “treats” or food reward are actually just a portion of his day’s kibble. In rare circumstances, he’ll get a high value food reward, but that’s mainly if we’re in a really difficult working situation or he’s learning a new complex task. He loves food reward-it’s a little like a paycheck with some added cheerleading. 😂

Your daughter is so adorable! I always go to Michael’s and think about buying those containers that were similar to the metal ones that you’re looking at, but never end up doing it. LOL

Right?! I think “OMG I LOOOOOVE these!” And then I think, “WHAT am I going to store in them?!” And then I think... “zzzzzzzzz”. 😂😂😂

It's about the same temp here today in Omaha. Your daughter is so cute. She reminds me, with her twirling, in dress and pants, of my grandaughter. And it looks like they both love to sing.

Thanks!! Where are you from? The cold has been kind of miserable! The windchills have frequently been -20 and when we’re home even 70 degrees in the house feels cold lol. I feel like a total wimp saying that, but I’m a freeze baby!!

CraftyBlindChick lol It's 4 degrees now with -15 to -25 windchill. I am not a cold weather person.

Well you weren’t kidding about the escalator. I recently got an iPhone and my friend told me to make sure I got an I phone six because anyone after that have.

No. I have a small amount of residual vision that is also highly dependent upon ideal conditions. Due to severe photophobia, my remaining functional vision is rendered useless in many environments.
