Richard Dawson (RIP) was the best host by far of the Family Feud since it's inception. No host has come close matching or living up to his mastery of this show. With this being said, the early 80's he started declining with his sharp wit and it looked at times like he was just going through the motions. He knew it was time to go. His comeback in 1994 was a tragedy. By that time he'd blown up literally and his voice had left him due to his many years of smoking 3 to 4 packs of cigarettes a day. He should have never returned and was gone after a season. Forever my favorite host though!

Another reason why Feud failed when he returned was cause it had been overtaken by the OJ trial so many people didnt get a chance to see it. Nonetheless Richard had essentially left show business by the time he returned to FF so I dont think his heart was in it as much second time around. He had gotten married and had a three year old daughter by that point and I think he was enjoying his home life and didnt feel the need to be in the spotlight again. As you said he had quit smoking and as a result turned to food. He promised to lose weight for his Feud comeback but I guess it wasnt to be. Perhaps this was another sign that he had moved on and was ready to put show business behind him.

I don't know what you guys are bitching about. You make it sound like he weighs 500 pounds. He isn't that fat. Everyone gains weight as they age. You can't stay a skinny kid forever. I think Richard Dawson looks pretty damn good as an older man. I could see why his heart wouldn't be in it. Life goes on. Plus ANYONE that quits smoking gains weight. That is a fact.

Any relation to the York's from Unadilla NY? I'm from there. My late Mom, Lillian Gillingham, used to work for a Harold York back then, around that time period, as a home health aide

This episode comes from a 2002 Game Show Network airing. Most of the 1982 Daytime episodes went unaired until 2008-09. Do you have any syndicated episodes of Family Feud from 1982?

GSN only seems to air Steve Harvey episodes. Occasionally a John O'Hurley or Richard Karn episode may surface but Harvey's Feud is pretty much all GSN shows. Havent seen Dawson Feud on GSN since probably 2012. Buzzr however airs Dawson Feud.

You wanna talk about crazy? There was a kid who played the Fast Money round...and almost got 200 points in the first half! I forget which episode that was though
