Many cities had legal or informal segregation as well. The US still has lots of issues, but be happy you didn't have to live through literal segregation and lynchings.

It's a one trick pony and the one trick is "let's make this modern character into a 1950's Hollywood character" It's amusing exactly one time, and even that is only momentary.
