This is just a short list of a few important tips I wish I would have known before buying my very first milk cow to avoid problems. There is of course a very comprehensive list and many things that can be added to this. But just as a starter, here are a few tips!

This is a straightforward VLOG that's educational with no nonsense flowery statements like other vlogers just for cuteness but this is an informative & direct to the point with cuteness with her cows showing affection to her. I love this. Thanks, I learned something I need to know.

Excellent video! I have three milk cows. Two Jerseys and one Jersey/Fresian. You can band a cow with horns. We did. We waited two years before we did it. The horns were full size and she was using them to push around one of the other cows. Then we found that if she made a quick turn we possibly could get hurt so we researched it. What we did is use a bander tool to put the band over the horns. It took several weeks to fall off. They have been off for several years now and she’s doing just fine. She’s a Jersey. The other two cows when they were calves we had the vet out to cauterize the buds. The vet numbed the area up before he burned the buds. We used Desitin ointment according to the vet so that the wounds would heal properly. Also get Thorvin kelp. Joel Salatin talks about the benefits (pink eye etc). Our vet told us to get minerals especially calcium and magnesium because our area soil is deficient in it and the vet said that can cause mastitis. So we ended up getting 12 Stones All in one sold by Advanced Biological. I tried Fertrell’s but they don’t hold a candle to the 12 Stones one. Thought I would share! Thanks for your video. It’s hard to find good informational videos! So thank you!

Having a cow finally became a reality for my family and I. She has the perfect background, but…. She is mean as she could be. She is a heifer and is pregnant. What can we do to sweeten her up. She seems like she wasn’t handled much before she can to us and she has been trying to boot us with her head. She is absolutely beautiful and I just wanna hug her but instead, she only lets us pet her while she is eating. She has gotten the nickname Mean Mouse for now but we named her Honey. Please help. I don’t wanna be afraid of her when it’s time for calving and milking.

I dont know why shes mean. Maybe she doesn't trust you? Maybe she thinks humans eat cows and that you want her baby so you can steal her milk?? Silly heifer!!!

Hi Angel! Thank you so much for such an informative video. I am looking at a 4 year old jersey cow now, she is in milk and has a calf on her BUT she was not bred back and it's been 6 months since she had her calf, I have heard that since around 5 months they are in peak production that it may be challenging to get her bred. My questions are #1 should I or CAN I dry her off before trying to get her bred? Or maybe just stop milking and leave the calf on her so maybe her production slows and she can cycle again? Also, after she is successfully bred does she come back into milk during her pregnancy? Or does she have to calve again in order for milk production to start back up? Thank you so much for your time!

I have a question… so my jersey threw her calf on April 12th. So we’re in week three. I’m calf sharing. I separate them and milk her and reunite them. She is being fed alfalfa flakes, alfalfa pellets, grains and a mineral supplement. I am able to strip her out and her bag looks empty. She yields about 6 gallons a day. I’m getting barely any cream at all. Like, I get that calf sharing decreases the quantity of cream but I’m getting like a quarter of an inch of thick cream and an inch of light cream. Barely anything, and the milk tastes like skim milk. Is it because she’s early in her lactation cycle? Show I throw some regular hay into her ration? I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. This is her first lactation cycle ever too maybe that has something to do with it?

question: Do you re impregnate the same cow once they stop making milk or do you get a new cow? and if you impregnate your cow what do you do with the baby cow? If its a female would it become another dairy cow when its ready to have calves? what would you do if it were male? Thank you to anyone who can answer these questions!
@hunterreed1010
@hunterreed1010 Жыл бұрын
You keep the cow and get it bred again. If you have bulls, this is usually a simple process, if not, it can take a bit more work/planning. You leave the calf alone and allow the mother to nurse the calf, sharing the milk. If it's a female calf, yes, it can eventually be bred and produce milk too. If it's male, generally you steer it and eventually process it...or if it's an impressive male, let it become a bull and sell it.

These youtube insta farmers my God. “Things I wish I would have known!?” Maybe learn farming before buying animals. And you cant learn it in a video!!!! The amount of calls I have to respond to as someone whos family has farmed for 200 years is astounding. Animals dying because these people think after watching a video they are ready to raise or milk a cow. Heres some advice. You arent ready. You dont know what you are doing. Stop learning on animals and having them die of shit like colic or you drinking colostrum that was meant for a new calf. There should be fines for these idiots.

Promoting and normalizing keeping an innocent slave to impregnate, take her baby and steal her milk for no necessary logical reason is cruel and insane. With the money it will cost to feed her and pay veterinarian bills you could buy a shit ton of plant milks and vegan cheeses and vegan yogurts and still have money left over to donate to an animal sanctuary to reverse your bad karma

Raising and loving an animal for its milk and meat is way more humane than killing off every mouse, mole, squirrel, bird, and every other animal who dares nibble on your soy farm that grows your fake meats and cheeses. And have you ever looked at the ingredients? It's 90% synthetic chemicals that poison you. Don't like farms, go have a salad and pretend you're saving the world
