Hey Caren, Enjoyed the video! Gave it a thumbs up!! I am now in my second lactation of milking, so a young milkmaid when compared to you, lol, but I do enjoy it and more importantly I enjoy what the queen of our farm produces for us. ❤ Making cheese is the next skill I am wanting to learn.

We are so glad you liked our video and thank you for watching. I make very easy farmstead style cheese. Super easy! I use clabber or kefir to culture everything.

@@texasfarmsteadliving-caren9517 that is my goal, to not have to bring in outside inputs like cultures but use my own clabber. I was making kefir every couple days until we dried up our cow. I had Frozen enough milk to keep the kefir going and for our household needs but now it's time to start feeding my kefir grains regularly.

Thank you for the wonderful tips. I couldn’t agree more with you, especially on the disease-free search, so many people never even consider that. I have had jersey cows since 2016, I wish I would have had these tips then. The Lord blessed me though with a disease-free, easy milking jersey, whom I fell in love with. It definitely is a lifestyle change but a good one. Thank you for all your videos and sharing your knowledge. My husband enjoys Mr. Rueffer’s videos and his knowledge too.

Before you (personally ) consume the raw milk from Your family milk cow , is Mastis the most common testing you do? Is there nay other good test to run beside the usually eye ball monitoring for milk and if cow looks sick.

I have only seen one person show that they shave the udder. Would you suggest that on a very hairy udder? This will be her first time being milked.

No I would not recommend shaving the udder. I would brush the area with a soft bristle brush before milking. Thank you for watching!

During lactation, how much grain and what ration do you use? What kind of grain? When you say “Dairy Ration” what does that mean. Sorry, I am still learning. I have trained my milk cow to a stanchion last year, no halter trained, which I will do this year with her calf. I bred her to a Jersey. She is a Dexter. Great cow on her 6th calf. We are have had two of her other pure bred Dexter calves. I did a lot of research before we bought her. Praying for an easy birth, since this will be her first that is not a Dexter. She is getting large and due April 28-30. ❤️ Thank you for sharing. Your videos are so helpful. 🙏
