The family of a young woman from London, murdered in Pakistan, has appealed for justice in an interview with the BBC.
25-year-old Mayra Zulfiqar was shot in Lahore earlier this month.
Police are investigating allegations she was being threatened by two men whose marriage proposals she had rejected. No arrests have yet been made.

You are right, parents do allow their daughters to go and be independent abroad in third world bribery ridden countries, however we cannot deny that unfortunately the world is a scary place and women are not safe, no matter how fearless we try and be, no matter how brave or independent we make ourselves we cannot ignore the fact that there are cruel minded disgusting predators we live amongst and we must be careful, families must protect their daughters.

Its a numbers of issues in places with alot of poverty, backwards culture even if alot of them are modern others are not. Sometimes religion comes into it. And ofcourse losers that never dated or been near a woman so they just can't rejection. In this case , a very beautiful young woman from the west so it's like a princess landed from a far away land to them. Even men travelling to these places need to be careful.

In pakistan An estimated one thousand Christian and Hindu women are forced to convert and marry Muslim men in Pakistan every year, says a report released on Monday. According to a report by the Movement for Solidarity and Peace in Pakistan, up to 700 of these women are Christian and 300 are Hindu. investigations find that cases of forced marriages/conversions follow a distinctive pattern: Christian girls - usually between the ages of 12 and 25 - are abducted, converted to Islam, and married to the abductor or third party.

In the oppressed countries, where arranged marriages are norm and any kind of activity, even young men and women talking as a friend is barred creates society filled with incel men, and those incel men are dangerous. Why would anyone go to such places if you're coming from a free society to oppressive countries as such at least try to be aware of the dangerous. I'm from India, although it's not really that bad here but I keep seeing videos of those incel men grouping on couple who chose to meet at some seclusive place. At least the police strictly arrest those hooligans and give them the beating of their lifetime. And our laws don't prohibit making partner before marriage so those incel men bothering couples is on decline. But can't say the same about Pakistan.

I've seen this play out over various cultures, some just have a different mindset. We have a very good heart specialist from Pakistan. He came to Florida when I was a child. He married an American woman. His father was fine about him getting educated in the West, but wanted him to move back once he graduated. His uncle told him no, stay in the West because your wife will never be accepted here. Help your family from there. That is just what he did, and was so happy he listened to the uncle and not his father who was quite cruel to his mother.

@Owais Tariq In the West we hear of these honor killings of women and find it inexcusable. Especially when the perpetrators admit to it and get off with a slap on the wrist. Even worse when a whole family participates in the crime. Barbaric. The problem in general needs to be addressed by the PM , legislators , and the judiciary. It has to end. Countries can't claim to be just and accept "honor" murders at the same time.

The Partition of India of 1947 was the division of British India[c] into two independent dominion states, India and Pakistan.[6] The Dominion of India is today the Republic of India; the Dominion of Pakistan is today the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the People's Republic of Bangladesh. The partition involved the division of two provinces, Bengal and Punjab, based on district-wide non-Muslim or Muslim majorities. The partition also saw the division of the British Indian Army, the Royal Indian Navy, the Indian Civil Service, the railways, and the central treasury. The partition was outlined in the Indian Independence Act 1947 and resulted in the dissolution of the British Raj, or Crown rule in India. The two self-governing countries of India and Pakistan legally came into existence at midnight on 15 August 1947. @@nickthomas7465 There were a couple of cases of honour killing. The problem is a lot of Pakistani families in the UK have lived there for years and their children have in many cases been born there. If they have a daughter they want her to get married to some cousin living in Pakistan and in many cases send them to Pakistan on the pretext of a vacation and if the girl says no to marriage while in Pakistan she is murdered and made to look like an accident. This latest case does not look like an honour killing and the murder might be linked to the girl coming to Pakistan and getting mixedmaybe with boys belonging to rich families and maybe in the course of partying things going wrong. The point being our legal system is to slow and our police force are either inept or in most cases corrupt where money talks. Our PM Imran Khan talked a lot about reforms as far as the police and the legal system.are concerned but has not delivered

I don't mean to victim blame. My sincere advice to all overseas brothers and sisters visiting Pakistan especially to the sisters. Everyone in Pakistan is vulnerable regardless of if you are local or coming from overseas. However there are levels of vulnerability. If you are female and coming from overseas you are at higher degree of vulnerability by default. However, one can reduce the risks to their lives by not mingling with strangers, keeping low profile, sticking with family till you know your surroundings and start understanding the good and bad around them.

Exactly!!! I feel that foreign born children of immigrants ( like myself) they get comfortable and wanna make friends and blend with the locals. And they does not work. Like u said: stick with family members. Just stay outta sight. Also there is the expat community too if you are soo inclined but leave the local people alone. The police aren’t even questioning those so called friends she lived with smh.
