Note: The pronoun "ЕЁ" is written "ЕЕ" in this video. It is quite normal to write "Ё" without the dots in Russian because it is quicker. Russians will know the meaning. The pronunciation remains "ЕЁ"

The gender of these words has to be learnt by heart, am I right? Or can we just assume? I mean, 'mother' isn't grammatically feminine in English but a mother is a woman so would it be wrong to assume that the grammatical gender for мать is feminine?
