I'm curious about this suffix, надцать. In A Clockwork Orange they use a slang called Nadsat that borrows a lot from Russian.

As a Canadian, I had to take French for grade 1 through 9, but the teachers were justbnative English speakers going off of a written syllabus. I didn't find out until my 20s that practically all of the pronunciation I learned was dead wrong and not even close. It took me years to unlearn the poor pronunciation I was taught in school. Not that Canadian French lessons actually do anything. Most of us come out of it barely able to put together a coherent sentence. I've learned more French from bilingual packaging than anything else. I can't have a conversation in French, but I can tell you exactly how to make hot pockets. Lol

The gender of these words has to be learnt by heart, am I right? Or can we just assume? I mean, 'mother' isn't grammatically feminine in English but a mother is a woman so would it be wrong to assume that the grammatical gender for мать is feminine?

This is the best ever made. Only written translation is fast learning. If you make more or if you have time to remake: Put the translation under the Russian, at the bottom of the video, and avoid moving words around on the screen.

This is fantastic for learning! Not saying the English word is high-class learning! Going fast? Not a problem. It is fast learning. Repeat a few times and it is slow )))

I was looking for sites to learn Russian. I think this is the best place to learn Russian because you have used a highly professional approach, provided theoretical explanation, audio, video and exercises. Most importantly, your approach made it easy for me to learn Russian. I am really very happy. Both my daughter and I will now learn Russian from Australia. Thank you very much for your hard work.

You guys are awesome! Your website and videos are the best resources for me to learn Russian! Could you do a huge favor for all the learners? On your website, the initial sections where you have lessons have pronunciation and/or stress indicators for the words. However, for the vocabulary section, most of the words do not have stress indicators or pronunciation. It will be a huge help if you can add it there as well. I am sure it will be a lot of hard work, so I want to thank you in advance!

Hello. I was looking at your website and I really liked it! You all seem so generous and helpful. It said that we could tell you via the student forum how we feel, but I could not find any way to access that at all. I went on your alphabet videos but the comments are turned off, probably because directed to children in part. So I found this, and maybe I'll get to understand it if I study on your lovely website! But I just wanted to say to you, that your site looks like just what I was looking for. I'm very impressed by your passion for teaching Russian. Also very moved by your statement about Ukraine. I will do what I can to learn and help; thanks for what looks like a great way of learning the Russian language! (I'm using some videos and audio things, but I wanted just some print to look at! Reading is my most favorite way. And not in a video. It's just more peaceful. They're all good methods and they work together.)

how come after 60 (at 70) the "-десят" part instead of being "dis-yat", it becomes "dis-it"? it's the same thing with pronouncing 9 and 10, instead of "-yat" it's "-it", i can see it means "5 tens, 6 tens, 7 tens" and so on. am wondering what the "надцать" and "дцать" parts mean literally also, if they have a literal meaning

The stress moved from я in Десять, to the letter е in шестьдесят, семьдесят and Семьдесят. Unstressed е in Russian is pronounced и, same as Unstressed Я is pronounced и.
